AB  - Despite the centuries of traditional growing in its region of origin, the Far East, it was only in the forties that soybean transformed from a minor crop serving as ensiled feed into a major crop and globally important source of food. For several decades, the United States with about 30,000,000 hectares have been the leading country in soybean production, processing, and trade. In last few decades, Brazil and Argentina, with the acreages of about twenty and fifteen million hectares, respectively, became important soybean producers on the global scale. Attempts to grown soybean have been made in a number of countries. Most countries in the world are presently growing soybean but on a limited acreage.

AB  - Results obtained from a network of large-plot trials conducted in 2009 and several previous years have shown that there are a number of newly released NS cultivars of soybean that can be recommended for large-scale commercial growing. We have placed on the market a broad range of new cultivars differing in their growth period duration (maturity groups 000, 00, 0, I, II) and other agronomic traits (growing requirements, chemical grain composition, etc.). For the next planting season, we have secured sufficient quantities of top quality seed of both our well-established cultivars and our new releases, including the new early varieties Alisa, Galina and Bečejka, the medium-maturing new cultivars Sava and Diva, and the late-maturing new cultivars Rubin and Idila. We will also have limited quantities of our latest releases available, the varieties Iskra (I), Victoria (I) and Trijumf (II). We have recently registered four very early cultivars, Gracija (000), Julija (00), Mercur (00) and Prima (00), all of which are particularly suitable for growing soybean as the second crop. Our recommendation is that the new cultivars be introduced gradually to large-scale production and we are hoping they will become popular with the growers.
AB  - Rezultati iz mreže makroogleda prikupljeni tokom 2009. i nekoliko prethodnih godina ukazuju da se nekoliko novopriznatih NS sorti soje može preporučiti za širenje u proizvodnji. Radi se o širokoj lepezi novih sorti koje se međusobno razlikuju kako po dužini vegetacije (grupe zrenja 000, 00, 0, I, II) tako i po drugim agronomskim svojstvima (zahtevi prema uslovima gajenja, hemijski sastav zrna, itd). Pored trenutno aktuelnog sortimenta, za narednu setvu obezbeđene su dovoljne količine kvalitetnog semena novih ranostasnih NS-sorti Alisa, Galina i Bečejka, zatim srednjestasnih Sava i Diva, kao i kasnostasnih sorti Rubin i Idila. Dostupne su i ograničene količine najnovijih sorti Iskra (I), Victoria (I) i Trijumf (II). Nedavno su registrovane vrlo rane sorte Gracija (000), Julija (00), Mercur (00) i Prima (00) pogodne za gajenje soje kao drugog useva. Preporučujemo da se novi sortiment postepeno uključuje u proizvodnju i nadamo se da će biti dobro prihvaćen od proizvođača.

Soybean varietal trials in 2008

AB  - Fifteen varieties and four promising lines of soybean were studied in 23 large-plot trials set up in all the major soybean-growing areas in Serbia and the Republic of Srpska. The yield different greatly among the locations, ranging from 1.6 t/ha at Kovin and Vršac to over 4.7 t/ha at Ruma. The differences were primarily a result of different meteorological conditions during the growing season. Looking at the total average yields from the 23 trials, no major differences can be observed among the different genotypes. However, when the trials are divided into different groups based on the conditions under which they were carried out, certain differences among the genotypes become evident. The varieties Sava, Mima and Bečejka, for instance, showed good tolerance of drought. In moderately favorable conditions, most of the genotypes studied produced similar yields, with only Afrodita, Tea and Rubin having a slightly better yield performance. The high genetic potential of NS soybean varieties was clearly evident in the trials carried out under the most favorable conditions, especially those set up at Ruma and Hajdučica, where the genotypes Sava, Diva, Venera, Mima, Rubin, Galina and NS-L-201308 all yielded close to or over five tons per hectare. Grain protein content was low in most of the trials, while the oil content was high. Looking at the individual cultivars, Afrodita, Alisa and Rubin had a somewhat higher protein content (over 38% on average). The average oil content of most of the genotypes ranged between 21 and 23%.
AB  - U 23 makroogleda, lociranih u svim glavnim regionima gajenja soje u Srbiji i Republici Srpskoj, testirano je 15 sorti i 4 perspektivne linije soje. Konstatovane su izuzetno velike razlike u prinosima između lokaliteta, od 1,6 t/ha (Kovin i Vršac), do preko 4,7 t/ha (Ruma), što je prvenstveno posledica različitih metereoloških uslova tokom vegetacionog perioda. Nema većih razlika između pojedinih genotipova soje, kada se posmatraju ukupni prosečni prinosi za 23 ogleda. Međutim, razlike se uočavaju u prinosima po grupama ogleda, oformljenih na osnovu uslova u kojima su izvedeni. Tako su sorte Sava, Mima i Bečejka ispoljile dobru tolerantnost prema suši. U umereno povoljnim uslovima prinosi su ujednačeni kod većine testiranih genotipova, a neznatno se izdvajaju Afrodita, Tea i Rubin. Visok potencijal rodnosti NS-sorti soje došao je do izražaja u ogledima izvedenim u najpovoljnijim agroekološkim uslovima. Naročito u lokalitetima Ruma i Hajdučica gde su Sava, Diva, Venera, Mima, Rubin, Galina i NS-L-201308 ostvarile prinos od blizu pet, ili preko pet tona po hektaru. Sadržaj proteina u zrnu je nizak u većini analiziranih ogleda, dok je sadržaj ulja na visokom nivou. Posmatrano po sortama, nešto veći sadržaj proteina imaju Afrodita, Alisa i Rubin, u proseku iznad 38%, a prosečan sadržaj ulja kod većine analiziranih genotipova soje kreće se od 21% do 23%.

AB  - In 2008, there has been a continuation of the upward trend in soybean areas and yields in Serbia. Conditions for soybean growing were extremely favorable in the first part of the growing season and extremely unfavorable in the second, but the yields produced were above the long-term average nevertheless. Grain quality was good, which is of great importance for the seed production. Preliminary tests of germinability have been indicative of high seed quality, so there will be enough top quality soybean seed for the 2009 planting. In 2008, five new soybean cultivars have been released domestically, and another four have been registered abroad (two each in Croatia and Ukraine).
AB  - U 2008. godini nastavljen je trend povećanja površina i prinosa soje u Srbiji. Uslovi za proizvodnju soje su u prvom delu vegetacionog perioda bili izuzetno povoljni, u drugom veoma nepovoljni, ali su ostvareni prinosi iznad višegodišnjeg proseka. Kvalitet zrna je dobar, što je od posebnog značaja za semensku proizvodnju. Informativna ispitivanja klijavosti semena pokazuju visok kvalitet semena soje, pa će za setvu u 2009. godini biti dovoljno kvalitetnog semena. U 2008. registrovano je pet novih sorti soje u našoj zemlji i četiri u inostranstvu, i to po dve sorte u Hrvatskoj i Ukrajini.

AB  - DP Agroinstitut Sombor monitored soybean production in the municipalities of Sombor, Apatin and Odžaci over a 10-year period (1998-2007). In the three municipalities, soybean is grown on 4-10% of the total area sown to agricultural crops. Data for the study were collected by surveying the growers and inspecting the fields directly. The average yield was 2.51 t/ha, and yield formation was affected by weather conditions (temperature and precipitation) and the cultural practices applied. Crop rotation was used on 90% of the total soybean acreage. On about 80% of the acreage, basic tillage was performed in the autumn, whereas on the other 20%, it was carried out in the spring, leading to significant yield losses. Late sowing also resulted in some yield losses. Although mineral fertilizer use has been on the increase in the area, there has been no correlation found between yield and the fertilizer rates applied so far. Soybean cultivars from different maturity groups were grown. Medium-maturing varieties were grown the most (over 50%), the late ones were planted on about a third of the area, while the rest of the acreage was sown to either early or very early varieties.
AB  - DP 'Agroinstitut' Sombor je tokom desetogodišnjeg perioda, 1998-2007. godine, pratio proizvodnju soje na teritoriji opština Sombor, Apatin i Odžaci. Soja u strukturi setve u ovim opštinama učestvuje sa 4 do 10%. Podaci su prikupljani putem ankete proizvođača i neposrednom kontrolom proizvodnih površina. Prosečan prinos je bio 2.51 t/ha, a pored vremenskih uslova (temperatura i padavine) na formiranje prinosa su uticale i pojedine agrotehničke mere. Od ukupno posmatranih površina plodored je poštovan na preko 90% površina. Osnovna obrada je na oko 80% površina izvedena u jesen, a na 20% u proleće, što je dovelo do značajnog smanjenja prinosa. Setva soje u kasnijim rokovima takođe dovodi do smanjenja prinosa. Količina primenjenog mineralnog đubriva je u porastu, ali do sada primenjivane doze nisu u korelaciji sa prinosom. Gajene su sorte različitih grupa zrenja. Najviše su bile zastupljene srednjestasne sorte, preko 50%, zatim kasne sorte, na oko trećini površina, a ostalo su bile rane i vrlo rane sorte.

AB  - Od sredine sedamdesetih godina prošlog veka soja je najvažniji izvor biljnih proteina i ulja u svetu, a površine pod ovom biljnom vrstom rastu iz godine u godinu. AB  - Daje se pregled rezultata rada oplemenjivanja soje na otpornost prema parazitima u svetu i kod nas. Detaljnije su obrađeni najštetniji paraziti u Srbiji, i to: Peronospora manshurica (plamenjača), Pseudomonas syringae pv. glycinea (bakteriozna pegavost), Sclerotinia scierotiorum (bela trulež), Diaporthe phaseolorum var. caulivora (rak stabla) i prouzrokovači truleži semena iz roda Diaporthe/Phomopsis. Konstatovano je da je stvaranje i gajenje otpornih sorti najefikasnija, najekonomičnija i ekološki najbezbednija mera zaštite. Ukazano je na fiziološku specijalizaciju pojedinih patogena (fiziološke rase), naročito izraženu kod P. manshurica i B syringae pv. glycinea, što uslovljava da proces oplemenjivanja na otpornost mora biti kontinuiran. Navedeni su otporni, parcijalno rezistentni i manje osetljivi genotipovi soje prema pojedinim parazitima, koji se koriste u procesu oplemenjivanja.

AB  - Iako ima veoma dugu tradiciju gajenja, soja je niz vekova bila značajna samo u području svog porekla, na Dalekom Istoku. Tek četrdesetih godina XX veka od malo značajne biljke koja je služila za silažu, ona postaje bitan činilac ratarske proizvodnje i značajan izvor hrane u svetu. Već nekoliko decenija vodeća zemlja u proizvodnji, preradi i prometu soje su SAD gde se soja gaji na oko trideset miliona hektara. Poslednjih godina, Brazil sa oko dvadeset miliona hektara i Argentina sa oko petnaest miliona hektara su se uvrstili u red svetski značajnih proizvođača. Ispitivanja mogućnosti gajenja su danas prisutna u mnogim zemljama, te iako površine nisu svetski značajne ona se uvodi u proizvodnju u većini zemalja sveta. U našoj zemlji soja je poznata kao biljna vrsta još od XIX veka iako do pre tri decenije nije imala značajnu ulogu niti u gajenju niti u preradi. Svetski trendovi povećanja površina zahvatili su i našu zemlju. Površine su zavisile delom od ostvarenih prinosa a delom od ekonomskih uslova, ali je danas soja značajan činilac naše ratarske proizvodnje. Najveće površine pod sojom u našoj zemlji nalaze su u Vojvodini. Obiman naučno-istraživački rad omogućio je zamenu introdukovanog sortimenta domaćim i razrešio niz pitanja iz agrotehnike. Tako se danas seju sorte stvorene u našim agroekološkim uslovima, a način gajenja je prilagođen klimatskim i zemljišnim činiocima našeg područja.

AB  - Soja je biljka sa dugom tradicijom u gajenju i korišćenju. Svetski značaj u poljoprivrednoj proizvodnji, ishrani i industriji, dobija međutim, tek u dvadesetom veku. Zbog hemijskog sastava zrna (preko 60% proteina i ulja) soja je značajan izvor hrane stalno rastućem broju stanovniku u svetu. U našoj zemlji je kao biljna vrsta poznata odavno, ali tek u poslednje dve decenije svrstava se u vodeće ratarske biljke. Uvođenje nove biljne vrste u proizvodnji bilo je praćeno nizom nejasnoća vezanih ne samo za gajenje, nego i za upotrebu. U proizvodnji stočne hrane postojale su potrebe za proteinskom komponentom, ali sama proizvodnja soje nije bila dovoljna da reši ovo pitanje. Izgradnja prerađivačkih kapaciteta u velikoj meri je doprinela povećanju površina i stabilizovanju proizvodnje, jer je tako proizvođačima obezbeđen plasman, a stočarska proizvodnja je dobila kvalitetnu sirovinu. Povećanje proizvodnje je pratio i odgovarajući naučno-istraživački rad. Prvi rezultati istraživanja saopštavani su na brojnim savetovanjima i objavljivani u naučnim i stručnim časopisima.

Prikaz novih ranostasnih NS sorti soje

AB  - Rezultat intenzivnog, kontinuiranog rada na oplemenjivanju soje u Institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo, u Novom Sadu, je sve veći broj priznatih sorti ove industrijske biljke. U poslednjih nekoliko godina napravljen je značajan iskorak u oplemenjivanju genotipova kraćeg vegetacionog perioda (grupa zrenja 0), a posebnu pažnju zaslužuju Valjevka, Bečejka, Galina i Alisa. Rezultati višegodisnjih testiranja u ogledima, kao i prinosi ostvareni u proizvodnji, ukazuju da će novopriznate sorte znatno poboljšati postojeći sortiment soje u našoj zemlji, ali i u susednim državama, u kojima su takođe registrovane. U radu je opisan postupak stvaranja, navedene osnovne morfološke karakteristike, prinos i kvalitet zrna novih ranostasnih sorti, pri različitim uslovima gajenja.
AB  - The newly-approved cultivars Valjevka, Galina, Bečejka and Alisa are the most recent achievement in soybean breeding at Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad. Results of numerous small- and large-plot trials conducted under a variety of agroecological conditions in the country and abroad indicate that an evident progress has been made in respect to the currently available early cultivars. Improvements have been made in yield level and stability as well as in the technological quality of grain, especially in the case of Bečejka and Alisa. Alisa has been noted to express a satisfactory tolerance to unfavorable, dry conditions, so it is recommended for growing in arid regions. In years with abundant rainfall and in irrigation, the cultivar is prone to lodging which reduces its yield performance. Valjevka and Galina have a high yield potential which comes to full expression under favorable growth conditions and in irrigation. Bečejka has a stable performance under a variety of growth conditions. All four cultivars have performed well in commercial production and their acreages have increased steadily. These cultivars will undoubtedly improve the assortment of soybean cultivars currently available in our country.

AB  - Soybean has been the most important source of vegetable protein and oil since the 1970s and the acreage in this crop has been increasing continually year after year. Thanks to favorable growing conditions and the superior performance of high-yielding domestic varieties, soybean is the most important industrial crop in Serbia as well. Using the right growing technology that has been based on long-term studies and has proven its worth in actual commercial production, it is possible to achieve record yields of this crop.
AB  - Od sredine sedamdesetih godina prošlog veka soja je najvažniji izvor biljnih proteina i ulja u svetu, a površine pod ovom biljnom vrstom rastu iz godine u godinu. Zahvaljujući povoljnim agroekološkim uslovima za proizvodnju, kao i visokoprinosnim domaćim sortama, soja je i u našoj zemlji najvažnija industrijska biljka. Uz pravilnu tehnologiju proizvodnje, preporučenu na osnovu dugogodišnjih istraživanja i provera u praksi, moguće je postići i rekordne prinose.

Soybean breeding for parasite resistance

AB  - Large epidemics may cause significant damage to soybeans. Long-term observations have indicated that Peronospora manshurica (downy mildew), Pseudomonas syringae pv. glycinea (bacterial spot), Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (white rot), Diaporthe phaseolorum var. caulivora (stem canker) and Phomopsis longicolla (seed decay) are the most widely distributed and most harmful soybean diseases in Serbia. Soybean crop may be successfully protected by a combination of measures among which the development and utilization of resistant cultivars is most efficient, most economic and ecologically most acceptable. The populations of P. manshurica and P. syringae pv. glycinea, the parasites of soybean leaves, vary in virulence rate, i.e., there are several physiological races of these fungi. In the case of Diaporthe/Phomopsis, however, variation in virulence rate has been observed, but physiological races have not been identified. Success in breeding of resistant cultivars depends on the existence of effective sources of resistance, as well as on the nature and mode of inheritance of resistance. There are several sources of resistance to P. manshurica, which mostly contain one dominant, major gene (Rpm). These sources thus provide complete resistance, however, it is not lasting but becomes lost with time. Our efforts are centered on widening the genetic basis of resistance, by accumulating several resistance genes from different sources. Race 4 of P. syringae pv. glycinea is dominant in soybeans around the world as well as in our country. There is no genotype completely resistant to this race, but there exist significant differences in the rate of susceptibility. Partial resistance is controlled by one or several Rpg genes. A collection of resistant and less sensitive soybean genotypes has been established at Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. These materials have been included in soybean breeding programs. Mechanisms of disease escape and partial physiological resistance bring differences in soybean reaction to S. sclerotiorum. Two loci controlling disease escape mechanisms and one locus most probably responsible for partial physiological resistance have been mapped. Partial resistance has been found in several introduced (PI) soybean cultivars. Under the local conditions, early genotypes are less sensitive that late ones. Complete resistance to D. phaseolorum var. caulivora, the agent of stem canker, has not been registered. Late genotypes are very sensitive to stem canker, while early cultivars and lines manage to avoid the parasite's attack under the local agroecological conditions. Species from the genus Diaporthe/Phomopsis are the most harmful parasites of soybean seed. Resistance to them is controlled by a single dominant gene, which has been registered in several soybean genotypes. The early domestic cultivars are more sensitive to the disease than the late ones. It should be mentioned here that much has been done on the introduction of resistance to Phytophthora megasperma f. sp. glycinea into commercial cultivars, especially in the USA.
AB  - Daje se pregled rezultata rada oplemenjivanja soje na otpornost prema parazitima u svetu i kod nas. Detaljnije su obrađeni najštetniji paraziti u Srbiji, i to: Peronospora manshurica (plamenjača), Pseudomonas syringae pv. glycinea (bakteriozna pegavost), Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (bela trulež), Diaporthe phaseolorum var. caulivora (rak stabla) i prouzrokovači truleži semena iz roda Diaporthe/Phomopsis. Konstatovano je da je stvaranje i gajenje otpornih sorti najefikasnija, najekonomičnija i ekološki najbezbednija mera zaštite. Ukazano je na fiziološku specijalizaciju pojedinih patogena (fiziološke rase), naročito izraženu kod P. manshurica i P. syringae pv. glycinea, što uslovljava da proces oplemenjivanja na otpornost mora biti kontinuiran. Navedeni su otporni, parcijalno rezistentni i manje osetljivi genotipovi soje prema pojedinim parazitima, koji se koriste u procesu oplemenjivanja. Korišćenje molekularnih markera, odnosno, mogućnost mapiranje gena, znatno je doprinelo boljem poznavanju prirode otpornosti i načina nasleđivanja otpornosti prema parazitima. U tom pogledu najveći napredak je napravljen kod S. sclerotiorum, P. longicolla i P. syringae pv. glycinea, parazita prema kojim nije evidentirana potpuna, već parcijalna rezistentnost. Treba istaći da je najviše rađeno na unošenju otpornosti prema Phytophthora megasperma f. sp. glycinea u komercijalne sorte, naročito u SAD. Inače, ovaj parazit nije prisutan na soji u Srbiji.

An analysis of 2007 soybean variety trials

AB  - The 2007 large-plot trials included 18 soybean genotypes from different maturity groups (0, I, II and III). Trials were located in all soybean-growing regions of Serbia and Republic of Srpska. As the 2007 weather conditions were not favorable for soybean, the yields in the trials were much lower than those obtained in previous years. Insufficient rainfall negatively affected soybean yield performance, especially when it was combined with high air temperatures in the period July - August. Some cultivars exhibit a certain level of drought tolerance. They performed satisfactorily in most location in spite of the unsuitable conditions. The late cultivar Mima, with the highest average yield in the trials, should be recommended for growing in arid regions. The cultivars Sava, Tea and Zvezda were best performers in maturity group I, the cultivars Bečejka, Valjevka and Alisa in maturity group 0. The considerable variability in protein and oil contents in soybean grain was found to depend on location and cultivar. .
AB  - U mreži makroogleda 2007. testirano je 18 genotipova soje različitih grupa zrenja (0, I, II i III). Ogledi su locirani u svim glavnim regionima gajenja ove industrijske biljke u Srbiji i Republici Srpskoj. Vremenski uslovi nisu bili naklonjeni soji, pa su prinosi u ogledima znatno niži nego prethodnih nekoliko godina. Nedostatak padavina, praćen visokom temperaturom vazduha, negativno je uticao na usev naročito tokom letnjih meseci (jul - avgust). Zapaženo je da pojedine sorte ispoljavaju izvestan nivo tolerantnosti prema suši, pa su i u nepovoljnim uslovima ostvarile zadovoljavajuće prinose u većini lokaliteta. Istakla se kasnostasna sorta Mima sa najvećim prosečnim prinosom u mreži makroogleda, što znači da je treba širiti u aridnijim regionima. Sorte Sava, Tea i Zvezda bile su najprinosnije u prvoj grupi zrenja a Bečejka, Valjevka i Alisa u nultoj. Utvrđeno je znatno variranje sadržaja proteina i ulja u zrnu soje u zavisnosti od lokaliteta i sorte.

The cultivars Sava, Tea and Zvezda were best performers in maturity group I, the cultivars Bečejka, Valjevka and Alisa in maturity group 0. The considerable variability in protein and oil contents in soybean grain was found to depend on location and cultivar. ., U mreži makroogleda 2007. testirano je 18 genotipova soje različitih grupa zrenja (0, I, II i III). Ogledi su locirani u svim glavnim regionima gajenja ove industrijske biljke u Srbiji i Republici Srpskoj. Vremenski uslovi nisu bili naklonjeni soji, pa su prinosi u ogledima znatno niži nego prethodnih nekoliko godina. Nedostatak padavina, praćen visokom temperaturom vazduha, negativno je uticao na usev naročito tokom letnjih meseci (jul - avgust). Zapaženo je da pojedine sorte ispoljavaju izvestan nivo tolerantnosti prema suši, pa su i u nepovoljnim uslovima ostvarile zadovoljavajuće prinose u većini lokaliteta. Istakla se kasnostasna sorta Mima sa najvećim prosečnim prinosom u mreži makroogleda, što znači da je treba širiti u aridnijim regionima. Sorte Sava, Tea i Zvezda bile su najprinosnije u prvoj grupi zrenja a Bečejka, Valjevka i Alisa u nultoj. Utvrđeno je znatno variranje sadržaja proteina i ulja u zrnu soje u zavisnosti od lokaliteta i sorte.",

AB  - The work on soybean breeding at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad started in the mid seventies. The primary objective of this work was to create domestic, high yielding varieties, adapted to our growing conditions, and with traits that will fulfill demands of producers and processing industry, and supersede foreign varieties. During last thirty years of intensive work, 87 varieties were registered in our country and 30 abroad. Current assortment comprises of twenty five varieties different in vegetation period as well as in other agronomic traits, with regard to various agroecological conditions in some growing regions of this industrial plant.
AB  - Sredinom sedamdesetih godina prošlog veka u Institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo u Novom Sadu započeto je sa radom na oplemenjivanju soje. Ovaj rad imao je za cilj stvaranje domaćih, visokoprinosnih sorti soje, prilagođenih našim uslovima gajenja, koje će svojim svojstvima udovoljiti zahtevima proizvođača i prerađivačke industrije i koje će iz proizvodnje istisnuti strane sorte. Tokom proteklih trideset godina intenzivnog rada stvoreno je 87 sorti soje priznatih u našoj zemlji i 30 priznatih u inostranstvu. Aktuelni sortiment čini dvadeset i pet sorti koje se međusobno razlikuju kako po dužini vegetacije, tako i po drugim agronomskim svojstvima, s obzirom na različite agroekološke uslove u pojedinim regionima gajenja ove industrijske biljke. .

AB  - In 2006, conditions for soybean production were relatively favorable resulting in good yields and record production of soybean grain (over 465,000 tons). The quality of the grain has been deemed very good, which is especially important for seed production. Preliminary tests of seed germinability indicate that the seed is of very high quality, so the 2007 supply of soybean seed will be both adequate and of high quality. Large-plot trials spread across a wider geographic region covering different growing conditions have helped provide a good picture of all agronomically important traits of the newly developed soybean genotypes. This has helped identify genotypes suitable for commercial production, allowing only the best soybean cultivars to reach the growers.
AB  - Uslovi za proizvodnju soje tokom 2006. godine bili su relativno povoljni tako da su postignuti dobri prinosi i ostvarena rekordna proizvodnja od preko 465.000 t sojinog zrna. Kvalitet zrna je veoma dobar, što je od posebnog značaja za semensku proizvodnju. Informativna ispitivanja klijavosti semena pokazuju veoma visok kvalitet semena soje, pa će u 2007. godini biti ne samo dovoljnih količina, već i visoko kvalitetnog semena soje. Mak ro ogledi postavljeni na širem geografskom području, u različitim proizvodnim uslovima, doprineli su sagledavanju svih važnih agronomskih osobina novostvorenih genotipova. Na ovaj način identifikovani su genotipovi pogodni za široku proizvodnju, što omogućava da do proizvođača dođu samo najbolje sorte.

AB  - In the present paper, we wanted to determine the soybean genotypes' adaptability to conditions different from those they are usually grown in-different in terms of climate, soil and agronomic practices. We therefore studied the adaptability of northern soybean genotypes (maturity groups 00-II) to two very distant locations with similar latitudes. One is Novi Sad, Serbia, where the varieties have been developed, while the other is Memuro on the island of Hokkaido in Japan. The results of the study showed there were differences among environments for all traits except plant height and seed weight. Although there was an overall positive correlation between the growth period and yield, we also found a difference in yield due to an interaction between environment and variety. The varieties with a longer growing season had higher average yields in favorable years. Plant height and seed weight were generally greater in Japan than in their country of origin due to higher rainfall in Japan. The coefficients of correlation among the traits varied depending on the environment.

The primary objective of this work was to create the first domestic, high yielding varieties, adapted to our growing conditions, and with traits that will fulfill demands of producers and processing industry, and supersede foreign varieties. During last thirty years of intensive work, 82 varieties registered in our country and 24 in abroad has been released. Current assortment comprises of thirteen varieties different by vegetation period as well as by other agronomic traits, with regard to various agroecological conditions in some growing regions of this industrial plant.
AB  - Sredinom sedamdesetih godina prošlog veka u Naučnom Institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo u Novom Sadu započeto je sa radom na oplemenjivanju soje. Ovaj rad imao je za cilj stvaranje prvih domaćih, visokoprinosnih sorti soje prilagođenih našim uslovima gajenja, koje će svojim svojstvima udovoljiti zahtevima proizvođača i prerađivačke industrije i koje će iz proizvodnje istisnuti strane sorte. Tokom proteklih trideset godina intenzivnog rada stvorene su 82 sorte soje priznate u našoj zemlji i 24 priznate u inostranstvu. Effect of soybean inoculation on soil microbial activity

AB  - Soil fertility is associated with the activity of soil microflora, which in its turn depends on the content of organic matter in soil, soil moisture, temperature and pH, mineral nutrition, effectiveness of nodular bacteria and the crop grown. An experiment was established in 2002 at Rimski Šančevi experiment field of Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in which the soybean variety Afrodita was treated with microbial fertilizers NS-Nitragin and BactoFil B. The soybean variety and NS-Nitragin have been developed at the Institute, while BactoFil B comes from Hungary. The experimental design was random blocks with four replications. Each replication consisted of six 5-m rows spaced 0.5 m apart. Seed inoculation variants were: noninoculated control (Ø); inoculation with NS-Nitragin for soybean (N) immediately before planting; inoculation with NS-Nitragin and BaktoFil B incorporation in soil (N+Bac.B). We monitored the effect of inoculation on soil biological activity and effectiveness of the symbiotic association. The microbial fertilizers NS-Nitragin and BactoFil B positively affected the presence of the analyzed microbial groups in the soil. The microbial fertilizers improved the agrochemical and biological properties of the soil. The incorporation of the microorganisms also affected the effectiveness of the symbiotic association. Soybean yield was highest in the variant of inoculation with NS-Nitragin and BactoFil B incorporation in the soil. .
AB  - Plodnost zemljišta vezana je sa aktivnošću njene mikroflore, koja zavisi od sadržaja organske materije u zemljištu, vlažnosti zemljišta, temperature, pH sredine, mineralne ishrane, efektivnosti kvržičnih bakterija kao i od biljke domaćina. Na Oglednim poljima Naučnog instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo na Rimskim Šančevima u toku 2002 godine je postavljen ogled sa sojom (Afrodita) uz primenu mikrobiološkog đubriva NS-Nitragina i BactoFila B. Genotip soje poreklom je iz Instituta kao i mikrobiološki preparat NS-Nitragin za soju, a BactoFil B poreklom je iz Mađarske Ogled je postavljen po slučajnom blok sistemu u 4 ponavljanja, svako ponavljanje sadržalo je šest redova, dužine 5m, razmak između redova bio je 0,5m. AB  - During 2004, a study was carried out to determine the stability and adaptability of protein and oil contents of NS varieties in a network of large-plot trials. Differences in seed protein and oil contents were observed among the varieties and locations. Due to the large influence of environmental factors on protein and oil synthesis, the genotypes differed with respect to stability of their chemical grain composition. Although a high negative correlation existed between protein and oil contents, some of the genotypes had increased levels of both. Genotypes with above-average stability of both of the traits under study were observed as well.
AB  - Proučavana je stabilnost i adaptabilnost sadržaja proteina i ulja NS sorti soje u mreži makroogleda. Utvrđene su razlike u sadržaju proteina i ulja u semenu kako između lokaliteta tako i između sorti. S obzirom na veliki uticaj spoljašnje sredine na sintezu ulja i proteina, utvrđena je razlika u stabilnosti genotipova u pogledu hemijskog sastav zrna. lako postoji visoka negativna korelacija između sadržaja proteina i ulja pojedini genotipovi imaju povišen sadržaj oba konstituenta. Takođe, uočeni su genotipovi koji pokazuju natprosečnu stabilnost oba ispitivana svojstva.

AB  - In 2004, a large number of new soybean varieties and prospective lines were tested in a network of large-plot trials. Their agronomic characteristics were compared against standard varieties from corresponding maturity groups. Of 20 trials performed, 17 were located in the Vojvodina Province two in central Serbia and one in the region of Semberija. Thanks to favorable weather conditions, especially abundant rainfall, yields in the trials were high. Record yields were achieved in several locations. Differences were registered in yield performance among the varieties and lines. The favorable weather conditions suited the genotypes that a possessed high genetic yield potential. The variety Vojvođanka produced the highest average yield however, several newly released varieties showed deserving of being included in the commercial production. Among the early varieties, Valjevka and Bečejka were distinguished for high and stable yields in most regions. Average yields of the medium-maturing varieties were fairly uniform. Still, the variety Sava was best in the region of Bačka, Balkan, Zvezda and Tea in the region of Banat and the new line NS-L-210188 and the varieties Šapčanka and Balkan in the region of Srem, central Serbia and Semberija.
AB  - Tokom 2004. godine u mreži makroogleda testiran je veći broj novih sorti i perspektivnih linija, čija su agronomska svojstva upoređivana sa standardnim sortama soje, iste grupe zrenja. Uspešno je izvedeno 20 ogleda, lociranih uglavnom u Vojvodini (17), zatim centralnom delu Srbije (2) i u Semberiji (1). Zahvaljujući povoljnim vremenskim uslovima, naročito obilnim padavinama tokom vegetacionog perioda, prinosi u ogledima su uglavnom visoki, a u pojedinim lokalitetima rekordni. Uočene su razlike u prinosima između ispitivanih sorti i linija soje. Povoljni vremenski uslovi pogodovali su genotipovima visokog potencijala rodnosti. Najveći prosečan prinos ostvarila je sorta Vojvodanka, ali je i nekoliko novopriznatih sorti dokazalo da zaslužuju širenje u proizvodnji. Među ranostasnim sortama, visokim i stabilnim prinosima u većini regiona gajenja soje, izdvojile su se Valjevka i Bečejka, što ih preporučuje za širenje u proizvodnji. Prosečni prinosi srednjestasnih sorti i linija su vrlo izjednačeni, ali se uočava da je na području Bačke najbolje prinose ostvarila sorta Sava, u Banatu Balkan, Zvezda i Tea, a u Sremu, centralnoj Srbiji i Semberiji nova linija NS-L-210188 Šapčanka i Balkan.

AB  - The work on soybean breeding at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad started in the mid seventies. The primary objective of this work was to create the first domestic, high yielding varieties, adapted to our growing conditions, and with traits that will fulfill demands of producers and processing industry, and supersede foreign varieties. During last thirty years of intensive work, 77 varieties registered in our country and 15 in abroad has been released. Current assortment comprises of thirteen varieties different by vegetation period as well as by other agronomic traits, with regard to various agroecological conditions in some growing regions of this industrial plant.
AB  - Sredinom sedamdesetih godina prošlog veka u Naučnom institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo u Novom Sadu započeto je sa radom na oplemenjivanju soje. Ovaj rad je imao za cilj stvaranje prvih domaćih, visokoprinosnih sorti soje prilagođenih našim uslovima gajenja, koje će svojim svojstvima udovoljiti zahtevima proizvođača i prerađivačke industrije i koje će iz proizvodnje istisnuti strane sorte. Tokom proteklih trideset godina intenzivnog rada stvoreno je 77 sorti soje priznatih u našoj zemlji i 15 priznatih u inostranstvu. Aktuelni sortiment čini trinaest sorti koje se međusobno razlikuju kako po dužini vegetacije, tako i po drugim agronomskim svojstvima s obzirom na različite agroekološke uslove u pojedinim regionima gajenja ove industrijske biljke.

AB  - In 2004, the soybean production conditions were not particularly favorable despite the fact that there was enough precipitation. The start and the end of the growing season were extremely rainy, which, coupled with unusually low temperatures, hampered and delayed sowing and harvesting. Also, the soybean crops suffered from drought at the stage critical for yield formation. Still, an average yield of 2.72 t/ha was obtained on the 110,000 ha or so sown to soybean in the Vojvodina province, which is significantly above the long-term average. Grain quality was very good, and this is of particular importance for seed production, which from this year onwards is under the complete control of the Institute. Sufficient quantities have been obtained of high quality seed of both the established cultivars well-known among the growers and newer cultivars being introduced to large-scale production, so an increase of the acreage in soybean can be expected to occur in the country next year.
AB  - Uslovi za proizvodnju soje u protekloj 2004. godini nisu bill naročito povoljni uprkos dovoljnim količinama padavina. Početak i kraj vegetacionog perioda bili su izuzetno kišni, što je uz neuobičajeno niske temperature otežalo i odložilo setvu i žetvu, dok je u periodu kritičnom za formiranje prinosa soja patila od suše. Ipak, na oko 110.000 ha u Vojvodini je ostvaren prinos od 2,72 t/ha, što je značajno iznad višegodišnjeg proseka. Kvalitet zrna je veoma dobar, što je od posebnog značaja za semensku proizvodnju koja je od ove godine u potpunosti pod kontrolom Instituta. Obezbeđene su dovoljne količine kvalitetnog semena, kako sorti koje proizvođači već dobro poznaju tako i novijih sorti koje ulaze u proizvodnju, pa se u narednoj godini može očekivati porast površina pod sojom.
