AB  - In Serbia, common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) production largely relies on improved commercial cultivars; however, many farmers still grow and maintain landraces. Productivity assessment of common bean landraces from Serbia may enrich knowledge of bean diversity from Western Balkans, Europe and worldwide. The study aims were to describe the underlying structure of a selected set of landraces and commercial cultivars of common bean, identify relatedness of accessions, and determine breeding values. Substantial variation in productivity was observed for bean landraces, with differences among gene pools and seed forms, revealing their agronomic value. Acknowledged structure of agronomic traits and recognised stratification will assist in multilevel organisation of common bean breeding programs.

First report of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris on chickpea (Cicer arietinum) in Serbia

AB  - Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the most commonly consumed legume crops worldwide, cultivated in more than 55 countries (FAO 2017). However, in Serbia it is a novel crop grown on approximately 120 acres, but the area under this crop slightly increases each year. Fusarium wilt caused by F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceris is one of the most economically important diseases in most chickpea-growing areas, but there has been no formal report of the Fusarium wilt of chickpea in Serbia. In June 2018, the first symptoms of Fusarium wilt were registered at Rimski Sancevi (Vojvodina Province), Serbia (N 45'19.3119, E 19'49.9339), as wilted chickpea plants grouped in patches on approximately 5% of plants in a 3-acre area. Symptoms of yellowing and necrosis of foliage appeared as late wilt in the podding stage. Roots of affected plants showed no external discoloration, but a cross-section showed dark-brown discoloration of xylem tissue. To isolate the causal agent, symptomatic plants were collected and 10 cuttings of root symptomatic tissue were surface disinfected with 2% sodium hypochlorite solution for 5 min, rinsed three times in sterile distilled water, air dried on sterilized filter paper, and plated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and water agar (WA) amended with streptomycin sulfate. After 7 days incubation at 25C in the dark, isolates were preliminarily identified according to their morphological characters described by Leslie and Summerell (2006).

First report of Fusarium tricinctum on narrow-leaved ash (Fraxinus angustifolia Vahl.) in Serbia

AB  - Monitoring the health status of narrow-leaved ash tree seedlings (forest office Morović, locality Vinična) in the early spring of 2015, after the catastrophic floods in May 2014, revealed presence of large dark necrotic areas on 1–2 year old sprouts. The isolation of the fungal pathogen was done by standard phytopathological protocols. Three representative isolates (K41, K42 and K78) were preliminary detected and purified by a single-spore technique for further morphological, molecular analyses and pathogenicity testing. Morphological characteristics classified the isolates as Fusarium tricinctum. Tested isolates on narrow leaved ash sprouts caused reddish brown elongated necrotic lesions averaged 20.1 mm. Two marker genes, translation elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF1-α) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS1), were used in this study. Using the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) searching engine, nucleotide sequences were compared to all related sequences. Alignement score resulted in 98.9% identities with F. tricinctum for isolate K78, while isolates K41 and K42 showed 94.1% and 94.3% identities with F. tricinctum complex respectively. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of F. tricinctum pathogen infection on flood stressed narrow-leaved ash trees in Serbia.
AB  - Poljski jasen (Fraxinus angustifolia Vahl.) je drvenasta vrsta rasprostranjena u nizijskim šumama u Evropi. Region jugozapadnog Srema gde se nalaze najvrednije šume ove vrste u Srbiji, bio je izložen katastrofalnim poplavama u maju 2014. Praćenjem zdravstvenog stanja sadnica jasena (šuma Morović, lokalitet „Vinična”) u rano proleće 2015. godine otkriveno je prisustvo velikih tamnih nekrotičnih područja na izbojcima starim 1–2 godine. Sa obolelih izbojaka, standardnim fitopatološkim postupkom, urađena je izolacija patogena. Prema morfološkim karakteristikama dobijeni izolati su determinisani kao Fusarium tricinctum. Za dalje analize su uzeta tri reprezentativna monosporna izolata (K41, K42 i K78). BLAST pretragom NCBI nukleotidne baze utvrđeno je 98,9% sličnosti TEF1-α sekvence izolata K78 (MN822227.1) sa Fusarium tricinctum i 100% poklapanja ITS sekvence ovog izolata (GenBank MK928426.1) sa izolatom F. tricinctum ZMXR6 (MT446111.1). IGS sekvence izo lata K41 i K42 (MZ749901 i MZ749902) imale su 94,1% i 94,3% sličnosti sa F. tricinctum kompleksom, na osnovu BLAST pretrage FUSARIUM-ID nukleotidne baze. Testovi patogenosti na izbojcima jasena starim godinu dana pokazali su crvenkasto smeđe izdužene nekrotične lezije prosečne dužine 20,1 mm. Patogen je reizolovan iz izbojaka sa simptomima. Prema našim saznanjima, ovo je prvi nalaz F. tricinctum na stablima poljskog jasena u Srbiji.

Antioxidant response of tomato to late blight (Phytophthora infestans) infection depending on symptoms intensity

AB  - Late blight (LB) caused by the Phytophthora infestans is a
devastating tomato disease, distributed worldwide. Tomato wild species could
be a potential source of resistance, however, there are little data about their
biochemical response to LB infection. Therefore the aim of the study was to
evaluate total phenolic and total flavonoid content and antioxidative activity in
the leaves of wild (Solanum pimpinellifolium) and cultivated genotype (Bizon)
depending on disease severity. S. pimpinellifolium compared to Bizon was
less susceptible and had five times lower disease severity index (11% and
55% respectively). Additionally, during the disease progression wild
genotype showed a much slower decrease of total biochemical parameters
compared to the cultivated one. Parameters such as total phenolic content
(TP), DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging test and ABTS
(2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) radical scavenging
activity in the symptomless leaves and the leaves infection 10-25% remained
the same in S. pimpinellifolium. The susceptible genotype Bizon had about
40% of leaves with the disease severity 25-50%, and a rapid decrease of all
biochemical parameters. A strong negative correlation was observed between
late blight infection and biochemical parameters in Bizon, while in S.
pimpinellifolium late blight infection negatively correlated only with TP, TF
(total flavonoid content) and total antioxidant activity (TAA).

the leaves of wild (Solanum pimpinellifolium) and cultivated genotype (Bizon)
depending on disease severity. S. pimpinellifolium compared to Bizon was
less susceptible and had five times lower disease severity index (11% and
55% respectively). Additionally, during the disease progression wild
genotype showed a much slower decrease of total biochemical parameters
compared to the cultivated one. Parameters such as total phenolic content
(TP), DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging test and ABTS
(2,2′-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) radical scavenging
activity in the symptomless leaves and the leaves infection 10-25% remained
the same in S. pimpinellifolium. The susceptible genotype Bizon had about
40% of leaves with the disease severity 25-50%, and a rapid decrease of all
biochemical parameters. A strong negative correlation was observed between
late blight infection and biochemical parameters in Bizon, while in S.
pimpinellifolium late blight infection negatively correlated only with TP, TF
(total flavonoid content) and total antioxidant activity (TAA).",

AB  - Tracking the distribution of Fusarium species and the detection of changes in toxin production
provides epidemiological information that is essential for Fusarium head blight (FHB) management.
Members of Fusarium graminearum species complex (FGSC) were characterized using species
and trichothecene-specific primers. Associations between members of the FGSC, cereal crop species
(wheat, rye, triticale, and oat), seeding time (winter and spring), type of cultivation (monocrop and
intercrop) and chemotype grouping were investigated with multiple correspondence analysis and
multiple regression modeling. We found that triticale and oat were more related to isolates classified
into F. graminearum s. lato than with other isolates. In contrast, wheat and rye were more associated
with F. graminearum s. stricto. Cereal crop species affected the frequencies of F. graminearum s. stricto
(p = 0.003) and F. graminearum s. lato (p = 0.08) and unidentified isolates with morphological characteristics
like those of FGSC members (p = 0.02). The effectiveness of species-specific primers was 60.3%
(Fg16F/R) and 76.2% (FgrF/FgcR), and the effectiveness of primer sets for the trichothecene genotyping
of the Tri5 and Tri3 genes was 100% and 90.6%, respectively. The decrease in Fusarium-damaged
kernel values in the wheat–pea intercropping system indicated that intercropping systems have the
potential to control FHB.

First report of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. ciceris on chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) in Serbia

AB  - Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the most commonly consumed legume crops worldwide However, in Serbia, it is a novel crop grown on approximately 120 acres. Fusarium wilt caused by F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceris is one of the most economically important disease in the most chickpea-growing areas, but yet there has been no formal report of the Fusarium wilt of chickpea in Serbia. In June 2018, the first symptoms of Fusarium wilt were registered as wilted chickpea plants grouped in patches on approximately 5% plants in the area of 3 acres. Symptoms as yellowing and necrosis of foliage appeared as late wilt in the podding stage. Roots of affected plants showed no external discoloration, but cross-sections showed darkbrown discoloration of xylem tissue. To isolate the causal agent, symptomatic plants were collected, and ten cuttings of symptomatic root tissue were surface disinfected with 2% sodium hypochlorite solution for 5 min, rinsed three times in sterile distilled water, air-dried on sterilized filter paper and plated on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and water agar (WA) amended with streptomycin sulfate. After seven days of incubation, isolates were preliminarily identified according to their morphological characters and Fusarium Laboratory Manual. For each isolate 100, micro/macroconidia and chlamydospores were measured. Conidia were hyaline; macroconidia sickle-shaped, with blunt ends, 2-4 septa (10.1-17.7 x 3.1-5.8 μm); microconidia ellipsoidal, 0-1 septa (4.9-8.6-2.7-3.5 μm). Chlamydospores were globose (4.3-8.8 μm). Representative isolates (K343, K375 and K378) were purified by a single-spore technique for further analyses (Leslie and Summerell, 2006). Molecular identification of three representative isolates (K343, K375 and K378) was made by sequencing the rRNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region and translation elongation factor 1α (TEF1) gen. For all isolates, the ITS and TEF1 genes were amplified and sequenced with primers ITS1/4 EF1-728 and EF1-986. Based on a BLAST search of the NCBI nucleotide database, the ITS sequences (GenBank MK920204.1, MK928423.1 and MK928424.1) had 99.8% identity with F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceris isolate (MK074845.1). The TEF1 (GenBank MN788462.1, MN788463.1 and MN788464.1) had 96.3 -100% identities with F. oxysporum f. sp. ciceris isolate (FJ538245.1). The pathogenicity test was conducted on 7-day old plants according to the drench method. The concentration of inoculation suspensions was adjusted on 1x106, and ten plants per isolate were tested and inoculated with 10 ml of suspension. Control plants were drenched with 10 ml of sterilized distilled water. Nine days after inoculation, first symptoms as leaves wilting and white mycelia presence around stem base occurred on plants inoculated with isolate K378. On day 11, the first symptoms occurred on plants inoculated with isolates K343 and K375 as well. Up to the 13th day after inoculation, all plants were wilted, and the pathogen was successfully reisolated and confirmed as F. oxysporum f.sp. ciceris. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of F. oxysporum f.sp. ciceris causing Fusarium wilt on chickpea in Serbia.

AB  - Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) is the second most important perennial forage legumes in the Republic of Serbia, cultivated on 90-120.000 ha. Nowadays red clover is considered as a very important catch crop and green manure as well as row material for production of pharmaceutical supplements based on phytoestrogens. Currently, domestic seed production is not sufficient to meet the demand, so the import of seeds from other countries is necessary. One of the most important factors that guarantee high yields of red clover seeds is cutting management, heavily influenced by environmental conditions. The objective of this study was to determine the effects of cutting management on seed yields, some seed yield components and seed quality of NS red clover variety Una. The trial was established on the experimental field of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Bački Petrovac according to a randomized block design with three replicates. Red clover variety Una was sown on April 10, 2018, at a row-to-row spacing of 25 cm with a seeding rate of 15 kg ha-1. The size of the elementary plot unit was 15 m2 (3x5 m).

AB  - Najznačajnije krmne biljke koje se gaje na oranicama Srbije su lucerka, crvena detelina, stočni grašak, grahorica, krmni sirak i sudanska trava. Površine na kojima se gaje oranične krmne biljke iznose oko 235.000 ha, što predstavlja oko 9% obradivog zemljišta Srbije (SGRS, 2021). Dominantan način iskorišćavanja krmnih biljaka u Srbiji je proizvodnja kabaste stočne hrane (zelena krma, seno, senaža i silaža) sa izuzetkom proteinskog graška koji se koristi za proizvodnju zrna (Karagić i sar., 2012). Osim direktne koristi za proizvodnju stočne hrane, gajenje NS sorti krmnog bilja, naročito krmnih leguminoza, pozitivno utiče na veći broj činilaca poljoprivredne proizvodnje. Uključivanjem krmnih biljaka u strukturu setve smanjuje se ili u potpunosti izostavlja primena mineralnih đubriva i pesticida, što omogućava proizvodnju zdravstveno-bezbedne stočne hrane. Većim učešćem krmnih biljaka u poljoprivrednoj proizvodnji omogućava se potrebna plodosmena i povećava efikasnost iskorišćavanja mehanizacije i zemljišta.

AB  - Phenotypic and genotypic characterization were performed to assess heritability, variability,
and seed yield stability of pea genotypes used in breeding to increase the pea production area.
A European pea diversity panel, including genotypes from North America, Asia, and Australia
consisting of varieties, breeding lines, pea, and landraces was examined in 2019 and 2020 in Serbia
and Belgium using augmented block design. The highest heritability was for thousand seed weight;
the highest coefficient of variation was for seed yield. The highest positive correlation was between
number of seeds per plant and number of pods per plant; the highest negative correlation was
between seed yield and protein content. Hierarchical clustering separated pea germplasm based
on use and type. Different Principal component analysis grouping of landraces, breeding lines, and
varieties, as well as forage types and garden and dry peas, confirms that there was an apparent
decrease in similarity between the genotypes, which can be explained by their different purposes.
Pea breeding should be focused on traits with consistent heritability and a positive effect on seed
yield when selecting high-yielding genotypes, and on allowing for more widespread use of pea in
various agricultural production systems.

Analysis of storage proteins in a worldwide collection of pea seeds

AB  - Peas (Pisum sativum L.) are an important source of vegetable protein for both humans and animals. However, pea seed proteins are limited in sulfur-containing amino acids (SCAA) and thus considered to be an insufficient source. The main seed proteins in pea are 7S (vicilins, convicilins) and 11S (legumins) globulins. Because 11S globulins contain more SCAA than 7S globulins, variations in the 7S/11S ratio affects the nutritional quality of pea seeds. Sodium Dodecyl Sulphate Polyacrylamide Gel Electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) was used to separate seed proteins from 260 pea genotypes from around the world (the EUCLEG collection). Based on the electropherogram, 18 protein bands were densitometrically measured. Protein compositional data are intrinsically multivariate. The protein concentration of each genotype is presented in closed form i.e., sum up to 100%. Therefore, for multivariate data analysis specific statistical methodology was used. All methods used in the study were carried out in classical and robust manner that was resistant to outlier observations. The storage protein composition of the genotypes studied varied greatly; in some cases, only traces of the main components were found. The results suggest that some of the genotypes tested could be useful in various breeding programs aimed at producing agronomically viable plants, yielding high-protein seed with specific composition of storage proteins for specific food applications.

AB  - This paper presents the plant genetic resources maintained by the Center of Excellence for Legumes of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, National Institute of the Republic of Serbia. The genetic resources of legumes (soybean, alfalfa, red clover, pea and vetch) are an invaluable source material and a rich source of genetic divergence for the development of varieties adapted to specific agricultural and environmental conditions. Soybean is the most important of all cultivated legumes and occupies the largest area under cultivation. The alfalfa collection consists of over 800 genotypes with different agronomic traits and dormancy values. The novel alfalfa breeding concept - breeding for yield per se, based on natural heterosis in the development of half hybrids - was introduced in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The Center of Excellence for Legumes has 757 soybean genotypes, 655 red clover genotypes, about 730 pea genotypes and 495 vetch genotypes. The development of the winter pea variety for grain (NS Mraz), the first of its kind in South-Eastern Europe, was significant for science.
AB  - Cilj rada je bio da se prikažu biljni genetski resursi (BGR) kojima raspolaže Centar izuzetnih vrednosti za leguminoze Instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo, Instituta od nacionalnog značaja za Republiku Srbiju. Genetski resursi leguminoza (soja, lucerka, crvena detelina, grašak i grahorice) predstavljaju dragocen polazni materijal i izvor raznovrsne genetske divergentnosti za stvaranje novih sorti prilagođenih određenim agroekološkim uslovima. Među leguminozama, soja zauzima najveće površine i spada u red najznačajnijih gajenih biljaka u svetu. Do sada postignuti i valorizovani rezultati istraživanja u zemlji i svetu potvrđuju lidersku poziciju u regionu i šire, a novosadsku genetiku soje čine prepoznatljivom. Kolekcija lucerke poseduje oko 800 genotipova različitih varijateta i nivoa dormantnosti. Kraj XX i početak XXI veka, karakteriše primena novog koncepta oplemenjivanja lucerke na prinos per se, koji treba da iskoristi prirodni heterozis u cilju stvaranja semihibrida. Centar izuzetnih vrednosti za leguminoze raspolaže sa 655 genotipova crvene deteline, oko 730 genotipova graška i 495 genotipova grahorica. Značajan doprinos nauci je stvaranje prve sorte ozimog graška za zrno u Jugoistočnoj Evropi (NS Mraz).

The genetic resources of legumes (soybean, alfalfa, red clover, pea and vetch) are an invaluable source material and a rich source of genetic divergence for the development of varieties adapted to specific agricultural and environmental conditions. Soybean is the most important of all cultivated legumes and occupies the largest area under cultivation. The alfalfa collection consists of over 800 genotypes with different agronomic traits and dormancy values. The novel alfalfa breeding concept - breeding for yield per se, based on natural heterosis in the development of half hybrids - was introduced in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The Center of Excellence for Legumes has 757 soybean genotypes, 655 red clover genotypes, about 730 pea genotypes and 495 vetch genotypes. The development of the winter pea variety for grain (NS Mraz), the first of its kind in South-Eastern Europe, was significant for science., Cilj rada je bio da se prikažu biljni genetski resursi (BGR) kojima raspolaže Centar izuzetnih vrednosti za leguminoze Instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo, Instituta od nacionalnog značaja za Republiku Srbiju. Genetski resursi leguminoza (soja, lucerka, crvena detelina, grašak i grahorice) predstavljaju dragocen polazni materijal i izvor raznovrsne genetske divergentnosti za stvaranje novih sorti prilagođenih određenim agroekološkim uslovima. AB  - U cilju intenziviranja stočarske proizvodnje, rešenje treba tražiti u gajenju visoko
prinosnih krmnih biljaka dobrog kvaliteta. Zajedno sa naporima da se smanji energetska potrošnja, zagađenje životne sredine i intenziviraju sistemi održive poljoprivrede, treba razmotriti mogućnost povećanja površina pod ovim biljnim kulturama. Dominantan način iskorišćavanja krmnih biljaka je proizvodnja kabaste stočne hrane (zelena krma, seno, senaža i silaža) sa izuzetkom proteinskog graška koji se koristi za proizvodnju zrna. Značajan doprinos u proizvodnji kvalitetne i raznovrsne stočne hrane u Republici Srbiji pripada Odeljenju za krmno bilje čiju osnovnu delatnost čini naučnoistraživački rad, oplemenjivanje i stvaranje novih sorti lucerke, crvene deteline, stočnog graška, grahorice, stočnog kelja, krmnog sirka i sudanske trave.

AB  - Field peas are mostly used for animal nutrition in the Balkan region and in the countries of the former USSR, while in the countries of Western Europe, Canada, the USA and the Middle East they are mostly used for human nutrition. Over three years (2010-2012), the yield and grain yield components of the most widespread field pea varieties were examined. The lowest number of plants was determined in 'NS Junior' intended for combined use (65 plants/m2), while 'Dukat' and 'Partner' had 88 and 85 plants/m2 on average, respectively. The average stem height was 158 cm for 'NS Junior', and 65 and 70 cm for 'Dukat' and 'Partner', respectively. 'Dukat' (4846 kg/ha) and 'Partner' (4521 kg/ha) had significantly higher grain yields compared with 'NS Junior' (2717 kg/ha). The content of crude protein in the grain was highest in 'NS Junior' (27.6%), while 'Dukat' and 'Partner' had lower contents (23-25%).
AB  - Proteinski grašak se uglavnom koristi za ishranu životinja u našem regionu i u zemljama bivšeg SSSR-a, dok se u zemljama zapadne Evrope, Kanade, SAD-a i Bliskog istoka najviše koristi za ishranu ljudi. Tokom tri godine (2010-2012) ispitivane su komponente prinosa i prinos zrna najrasprostranjenijih sorti proteinskog graška. Najmanji broj biljaka utvrđen je kod sorte NS Junior, namenjene za kombinovanu upotrebu (65 biljaka / m2), dok su sorte Dukat i Partner imale u proseku 88 i 85 biljaka / m2. Prosečna visina stabljike za sortu NS Junior iznosila je 158 cm, a za sorte Dukat i Partner 65 i 70 cm. Sorte Dukat (4846 kg / ha) i Partner (4521 kg / ha) imale su znatno veći prinos zrna u poređenju sa sortom NS Junior (2717 kg / ha). Effect of harvest maturity stage and seeding rate on alfalfa yield and quality

AB  - Cultivated alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is a highly productive forage crop with great economic potential. Our objectives were to investigate the effects and interactions of environment, harvest maturity stage, seeding rate and cultivars on alfalfa dry matter yield and quality. The field experiment was carried out over 2010-2012 at the Experimental Field of Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad, at two locations: (I) Cenej, and (II) Rimski Šančevi, which were characterized by a contrasting soil condition. The experimental treatments included two seeding rates of 8 and 16 kg ha-1, three different harvest maturity stages of alfalfa, and four alfalfa cultivars included as a subplot in every treatment. Harvesting alfalfa five times within a year (cutting in the beginning of flowering) in the second and third year of stand life is the most efficient harvest regime that allows full exploitation of cultivar genetic potential and environmental conditions. There was no difference in yields between harvests at early and full flowering stage (15.9 t ha-1). Data related to forage quality components show increase of nutritive value when harvesting alfalfa in earlier maturity stage. Maturity stage in the moment of harvesting significantly affected all quality parameters. The results obtained suggest that in a temperate climate of Southeast Europe there is little justification for planting higher seeding rates of alfalfa varieties under good establishment practices. Increasing seeding rates above 16 kg ha-1 does not provide a long-term boon in alfalfa production.
AB  - Lucerka (Medicago sativa L.) je visokoproduktivna krmna biljka velikog ekonomskog potencijala. Cilj rada je bio da se ispita uticaj uslova spoljne sredine, faze košenja, setvene norme i sorte, kao i njihove interakcije, na prinos i kvalitet suve materije lucerke. Poljski ogled je zasnovan na oglednim poljima Instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo u Novom Sadu, na dva lokaliteta: (I) Čenej, i (II) Rimski Šančevi, različitih zemljišnih karakteristika. Tretmani su uključivali dve setvene norme, od 8 i 16 kg ha-1, tri sistema kosidbe i četiri sorte lucerke, tretirane kao podparcele u svakom tretmanu. Kao najbolji sistem kosidbe, u kojem je ostvarena puna eksploatacija i potencijal sorte, bilo je košenje lucerke pet puta godišnje (kosidba u početku cvetanja) u drugoj i trećoj godini života lucerišta. Prinosi ostvareni košenjem na početku i u punom cvetanju se nisu razlikovali (15,9 t ha-1). Podaci o komponentama kvaliteta krme ukazuju na značajno povećanje nutritivne vrednosti pri kosidbi u ranim razvojnim fazama biljaka lucerke. Fenološka faza biljaka u momentu košenja značajno je uticala na sve parametre kvaliteta. Dobijeni rezultati govore da u umerenom klimatu jugoistočne Evrope postoji opravdanje za setvu manje količine semena. Povećanje setvene norme preko 16 kg ha-1 ne obezbeđuje dugoročnu dobit u proizvodnji lucerke.

abstract = "Cultivated alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) is a highly productive forage crop with great economic potential. Our objectives were to investigate the effects and interactions of environment, harvest maturity stage, seeding rate and cultivars on alfalfa dry matter yield and quality. The field experiment was carried out over 2010-2012 at the Experimental Field of Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad, at two locations: (I) Cenej, and (II) Rimski Šančevi, which were characterized by a contrasting soil condition. The experimental treatments included two seeding rates of 8 and 16 kg ha-1, three different harvest maturity stages of alfalfa, and four alfalfa cultivars included as a subplot in every treatment. Harvesting alfalfa five times within a year (cutting in the beginning of flowering) in the second and third year of stand life is the most efficient harvest regime that allows full exploitation of cultivar genetic potential and environmental conditions. There was no difference in yields between harvests at early and full flowering stage (15.9 t ha-1). Data related to forage quality components show increase of nutritive value when harvesting alfalfa in earlier maturity stage. Maturity stage in the moment of harvesting significantly affected all quality parameters. The results obtained suggest that in a temperate climate of Southeast Europe there is little justification for planting higher seeding rates of alfalfa varieties under good establishment practices. Increasing seeding rates above 16 kg ha-1 does not provide a long-term boon in alfalfa production., Lucerka (Medicago sativa L.) je visokoproduktivna krmna biljka velikog ekonomskog potencijala. Cilj rada je bio da se ispita uticaj uslova spoljne sredine, faze košenja, setvene norme i sorte, kao i njihove interakcije, na prinos i kvalitet suve materije lucerke. AB  - Phenotypic diversity of common bean (Phaseolus vulgarisL.) landraces and reference cultivars were evaluated based on variability of twelve traits, chosen according to international descriptor list. Landraces were collected form 53 locations in Republic of Serbia. Origin and dissemination of local common bean germplasm was assessed based on variation of phaseolin types. Phaseolin analysis showed that landraces of both Mesoamerican and Andean origin are grown in Serbia, with higher frequency of Andean types. Ratio of three phaseolin types found in studied common bean germplasm suggested its introduction in Serbia from northern borders. Shannon-Weaver index was used as indicator of phenotypic diversity, showing high diversity level among studied germplasm. HOMALS analysis was performed in order to determine discriminative power of traits and structure of studied germplasm. Seed and flower traits, as well as growth habit type had highest, opposed to phaseolin type with lowest discriminative power among genotypes. Genotypes were phenotypically individualized and classified in five homogenous groups according to their profiles, displaying differentiation on the gene pool level, as well.

AB  - Osnovni uslov za uspešan oplemenjivački rad je postojanje genetičke varijabilnosti unutar biljne vrste i ona se selekcionim radom može proširiti ili sužavati. Do osamdesetih godina prošlog veka, jari krmni graškovi kao i graškovi za suvo zrno, nisu se gajili u tadašnjoj SFR Jugoslaviji. Jedino je institut za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo iz Novog Sada, imao registrovane sorte ozimih krmnih graškova za krmu; NS Pionir i NS Dunav, koje su priznate 1972. godine. Ove dve sorte su se gajile u proizvodnji, pre svega u združenoj setvi sa strninama, za proizvodnju kabaste stočne hrane odličnog kvaliteta, za ishranu preživara. Od 1981. godine, započinje program oplemenjivanja jarih i ozimih graškova, namenjenih za proizvodnju krme, za proizvodnju suvog zrna i za kombinovano korišćenje. Naravno, za početak je trebalo sakupiti kolekciju različitih genotipova iz celog sveta i onda pristupiti planskoj hibridizaciji a sve sa ciljem da se rekombinuju geni odgovorni za pojedina svojstva i stvore nove homozigotne linije, buduće sorte. Danas, 2019. godine, Institut za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo iz Novog Sada, ima u posedu jednu od najboljih kolekcija ove biljne vrste u Evropi, sa više od 2000 akcesija.

AB  - Stočni grašak (Pisum sativum.) je jednogodišnja biljna vrsta iz familije Fabaceae. Zauzima veoma značajno mesto u ishrani ljudi i domaćih životinja zbog visokog sadržaja nutritivnih i niskog sadržaja antinutritivnih materija. U zavisnosti od sorte stočnog graška sadržaj sirovih proteina u semenu se kreće od 18 do 28%. Oplemenjivanje stočnog graška u cilju stvaranja visokoproteinskih sorti zahteva i propratne analize proteina u semenu, koje iziskuju mnogo posla i troškova, pa treba olakšati i pojednostaviti dobijanje rezultata uvođenjem u upotrebu novih 
metoda, poput bliske infracrvene spektroskopije (NIRS). Upotreba NIRS metode zasniva se na razvijanju 
kalibracionog modela za određenu organsku materiju, pri čemu je potrebno povezati referentne laboratorijske vrednosti sa spektralnim karakteristikama uzorka. Upoređivani su rezultati skeniranih spektara 196 genotipova stočnog graška stvorenih u Institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo u Novom Sadu sa laboratorijskim analizama proteina urađenim CNS elementarnom analizom.
