AB - Cover crops are being used as a tool to reflect agro-ecosystem services. Cover crops differ in the traits by which they capture resources and influence the local agro-ecosystem. The aim of the research was to examine the effects of the winter cover crops in soybean production through the analysis of yield in the two sustainable cultivation systems (organic and low input) during 2021. The experiments were set up according to the block system method with random plots in four replications at two locations Čurug and Rimski šančevi, Serbia. Winter cover crops were following: pure rye crop (R) and a mixture of peas and oats (P+O) (85:15), while the control treatment (C) was an area without cover crops. It was assumed that soybean will respond positively to the selected treatments, which resulted in an increase in grain yield. Yield and yield parameters positively reacted on mixture (P+O) as a pre crop.

AB - The intensive form of agricultural production often leads to disruption of physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil. Therefore, in recent years there has been an increasing focus on research and finding ways to preserve the soil with management practices that support soil conservation. The research was conducted on the experimental field of the Institute for Field and Vegetable Crops Novi Sad on Rimski Šančevi. The experiment was set up as a randomized block design. The winter cover crops consisted of the combined intercrops: Triticale (×Triticosecale Wittm. ex A. Camus) and winter pea (Pisum sativum ssp. arvense L.) (T+P), solo winter fodder pea crop (Pisum sativum ssp. arvense L.) (P) and a control without winter cover crops (sole or mixtures)(Ø). The experiment with winter cover crops was divided into two blocks. In the first block, the winter cover crops were chopped and plowed, while treatments in the second block were mowed using a rotary mower and the fodder was removed for feeding ruminants.

AB - U Srbiji se visokoproteinski konzumni hibridi suncokreta proizvode u manjem obimu u konvencionalnim i organskim uslovima proizvodnje, uz stalno povećanje površina pod organskom proizvodnjom.
AB - In Serbia, high protein confectionery sunflower hybrids are produced on a smaller scale both in conventional and organic production systems, with constant increase of area under organic production. Large seeds are used in a number of natural health products, as well as for direct consumption, while smaller seed fractions are used in the production of cold-pressed sunflower seed oil. Analysed the effect of organic fertilizer Guanito (T1), 0.5 t ha-1, was performed at the stage BBCH 01, while treatments with Trainer (T2), 3 l ha-1 and Natur Plasma (T3), 5 l ha-1, were carried out at the stage BBCH 36. on seed oleic acid and oil content of NS confectionary sunflower hybrids and compare them with untreated control (C) in organic production and with mixed NPK fertilizer (50:50:50) treatment as control (K) in conventional production. All organic fertilizers hadnot positive effect on oleic acid and oil content compared to control. Organic fertilizers did not affect the increase in oleic acid and oil content compared to the control. The hybrids differed statistically significantly of seed oleic acid and oil content. No interaction was observed between treatment and oleic acid and oil content, nor any statistically significant interaction between treatment and hybrid. NS confectionery hybrids can be successfully grown in conventional and organic production conditions, which is confirmed by the research results, there were no statistically significant differences between oleic acid and oil contentin in the control in organic and conventional growing conditions.

AB - The study, conducted to evaluate the effects of long-term straw management combined with the application of increasing nitrogen rates on the yield of twenty winter wheat varieties, as well as on soil properties, was carried out in a long-term field trial established in 1971. The trial was monitored for twenty growing seasons under rainfed conditions in a typical chernozem zone of the southern part of the Pannonian Plain. The cropping system was a winter wheat-maize-soybean rotation. The ten SN-treatments (combinations of straw management (S) and N-fertilization) were as follows: In the plot (treatment) with straw return (S1), seven variants of nitrogen fertilization (0–180 kg N ha−1) were included, while on the plot without straw return (S0) the variants of N-fertilization were 0, 90 and 150 kg N ha−l. Based on the high relative share in the total sum of squares, variance analysis showed that wheat grain yield (GY) was significantly affected by years, SN-treatments, and their interaction, and they can explain the largest part of the total variance of GY. The results showed that straw return integrated with N fertilization could increase wheat yield to varying degrees over 20 years. On average, for all years, the highest GYs were obtained in the treatment S1 and fertilization with 180 and 150 kg N ha−1. The overall results showed that long-term straw returning significantly increased GY by an average of 8.4 ± 4.5%, with a considerable simultaneous increase in yield stability compared to straw removal. In addition, straw incorporation (SI) significantly increased soil humus, total nitrogen (TN), and soil organic carbon (SOC) contents at a soil depth of 0–30 cm by an average of 4.2, 3.8, and 11.3%, respectively. The results of our study have demonstrated that the long-term practice of straw return, in combination with the application of mineral fertilizers, has the potential to serve as a sustainable soil management strategy that is economically viable and environmentally acceptable. However, additional research is required to investigate its interactive effects on both grain yield and soil productivity.

AB - The aim of this study was to determine the effect of cover crops and interactions on yield and yield components of maize in the semi arid conditions. Research was carried out in the production years 2020 at the Rimski Šančevi experimental station of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. The winter cover crops consisted of the combined intercrops: winter pea (Pisum sativum ssp. arvense L.) + triticale (Triticosecale) (PT) and single-species cover crops winter pea (P) and control without cover crops (C), all with nitrogen fertilization 50 kg ha-1 (N50) and without the use of fertilizer (N0). The sowing of winter cover crops was carried out in autumn in the first decade of November, and their mulching and plowing was done in the last week of May. After plowing and soil preparation, maize (NS4051) was sown in the first decade of Jun and harvested in October. The statistical significance (p<0.05) was found between different variants regarding the use of cover crops. The highest yield was achieved in a mixture of PT (N0) 8.54 t ha-1. The use of cover crops as green manure has a positive impact on the productive properties of maize with a reduction in inputs and possible lower production costs.

AB - Povoljna fizička svojstva zemljišta i aeracija u zoni korenovog sistema obezbeđuju uravnotežen rast i razvoj gajene biljne vrste.
AB - Favourable soil physical properties and rooting zone aeration can secure balanced crop development. High soil mechanical impedance is one of the physical properties that is particularly critical in dry conditions since decreasing water content dramatically increases specific soil penetration resistance. This can have a direct impact on restricted root development and further plant growth with reduced absorption of nutrients, which results in lower productivity (yield) of cultivated plant species. The aim of this study was to analyse how different cover crops affected the change of specific soil penetration resistance in low-input soybean production. In terms of cover crops, the treatment winter peas and oat (P+O) was shown to have the lowest influence on soil compaction on both soybean (2,7 cone resistance index) in contrast to the control plot (C) that had the highest cone resistance index (2,9), and moisture content 19,5%.

AB - Soil compaction is important cause of its degradation that leads to decreased water and nutrient accessibility to plants. As a consequence, root growth is reduced, resulting in yield decrease. Cover crops and intercrops can have positive effects on soil compaction, but cropping management adaption is required. In sunflower production soil compaction is not frequently analyzed, but under the current and projected changes of climate more attention must be given to this problem. Therefore, the aim of this research was to assess the effect of intercropping of sunflower and legumes on soil compaction. Three different NS sunflower hybrids were intercropped with common vetch, red clover or alfalfa, whereas sole cropping of sunflower was control. Trial was set up at Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Rimski Šančevi, Serbia. Soil compaction was analyzed based on resistance to penetration of the penetrologger cone into the soil, and the soil water content (Vol%). Penetration resistance was determined using an Eijkelkamp Penetrologger up to 80 cm, and data processing was done with Penetroviewer 6.03 software. The lowest percentage of soil moisture, at depth up to 20 cm, was measured in alfalfa and sunflower intercrop (21.7%), and the highest on the control plot (26.8%), as a result of absence of intercropping system.

AB - Analysis and monitoring of the quality of physical properties of soil enables the use of soil in a sustainable way. Bulk density of the soil is prone to changes, especially in the arable layer, where management practices and climatic factors during the vegetation period affect the subsidence of the soil and change its value. Therefore it is necessary to consider in more detail some factors that lead to variation of this physical property. In recent years, there has been increasing research into the impact of winter CC on the physical soil properties. By comparing average values by depth and selection of winter CC, there are statistically significant differences between sampling years (autumn 2016 and 2020). The lowest value of the bulk density at a depth of 0-20 cm was determined on the variant WPT (1.31 g cm-3), and the highest value on the control plot (1.45 g cm-3).

The lowest value of the bulk density at a depth of 0-20 cm was determined on the variant WPT (1.31 g cm-3), and the highest value on the control plot (1.45 g cm-3).",

AB - As a consequence of the absence of livestock production and animal manure, significant increase in input prices, especially mineral fertilizers, there is a growing need to find alternative ways of fertilization in modern agricultural production of field crops. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of cover crops (CC) and interactians on yield and yield components of maize in the semi arid conditions. Research was carried out in the production years 2020 at the Rimski Sanéevi experimental station of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. The winter CC consisted of the combined intercrops: winter pea (Pisum sativum ssp. Arvense L.) + triticale (Triticosecale) (PT) and single-species CC winter pea (P) and control without CC (C), all with nitrogen fertilization 50 kg ha-1 (N50) and without the use of fertilizer (NO). The sowing of winter CC was carried out in autumn in the first decade of November, and their mulching and plowing was done in the last week of May. After plowing and soil preparation, maize (NS4051) was sown in the first decade of June and harvested in October. The statistical significance (p<0.05) was found between different variants regarding the use of CC. The highest yield was achieved in a mixture of PT (NO) 8.54 t ha-1. Using CC as a green manure it is possible to provide plants with a certain amount of nutrients which would lead to a reduction of inputs with possible lower production costs.

AB - When it comes to soil functions earthworms are considered important organisms in the soil helping to increase soil health and to improve soil’s physical and chemical properties. It is therefore fundamental to know how earthworms can affect maize growth, plant nutrition and crop yields. Management practices like soil tillage can alter earthworm abundance depending on tillage depth, intensity and timing. Currently, there is lack of information on earthworm’s abundance and their effects on arable soil in our agroecological conditions. Lumbricus terrestris can stabilize soil structure due to their burrowing activity and mucus secretion, but the impact of L. terrestris in different soil tillage systems is not yet fully understood and therefore the aim of this study was to elucidate these effects on soil structure in a long-term soil tillage experiment in Serbia.

hrana i lek, izvor belančevina, visokoenergetska koncentrovana namirnica.
Zbog kratke
vegetacije i drugih bioloških osobina pasulj je vrlo intenzivan i osetljiv usev.

exceptional genetic potential for breeding of new varieties that could give satisfactory results in these environmental conditions, with the application of appropriate
cultivation technology.
Areas under beans in Serbia are declining. Due to short vegetation and other biological traits, bean is very intensive and sensitive crop. This is emphasized by exceptional sensitivity to polyphagous insects, as well as the presence numerous pathogens.
Low average yield is affected by weather, primarily high temperatures and drought.
Yields could be increased by correct and timely application of modern agronomic
knowledge, irrigated cultivation, in a joint crop or by sowing as second crop.

AB - The ongoing climate change, coupled with the transformations of cultivation practices and land use in sole crop production, may cause a significant decline in sunflower yield stability. Considering that the sunflower is the third oilseed in the world oilseed market, with 45 million tons of grain per year, and that it takes the fourth position in the vegetable oil market, the implementation of sustainable growing technology in sunflower production is a necessity. Considering the above, the goal of the research was to analyze and recommend sustainable sunflower production technology in intercropping systems. A four-year trial was conducted in Serbia’s agroecological conditions (45∘34′23.2'' N 19∘86′18.9'' E) using a split-plot design. Two oil-type hybrids and one confectionary-type hybrid were intercropped with common vetch, red clover, and alfalfa. Common vetch × sunflower intercropping resulted in the decrease in almost all sunflower traits. Moreover, sunflower × alfalfa intercropping proved to be the most appropriate. The yield of NS Gricko and Rimi PR were statistically on the same level with sole cropping, while alfalfa biomass had better results after alfalfa was intercropped with NS Gricko, as compared to sole cropping. In view of the prevailing belief that yields are more stable in intercropping than in sole cropping, further research is needed in this respect, in addition to further research of the time and method of sowing.

AB - The objective of this study was to assess the effect of biochar soil amendment (BSA) on chemical and microbial properties in different agricultural soils in Vojvodina Province. Short-term pot experiment
consisted of five biochar application doses (0, 0.5, 1, 2, and 3%) and five contrasting soil types (Mollic Gleysol, Eutric Cambisol, Calcaric Fluvisol, Gleyic Chernozem, and Haplic Chernozem), planted with sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) and winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). The examined chemical and microbial properties were significantly influenced by soil type and
interaction of experimental factors. Significant influence of biochar on the contents of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), total nitrogen (N), total carbon (C),
soil organic carbon (SOC), humus and potassium (K) of the tested soils was observed. Biochar also significantly affected the number of azotobacters (AZB), fungi (FNG), actinomycetes (ACT) and copiotrophic bacteria (CB). The effect of BSA varied depending on the applied dose, with higher values of the examined chemical and microbial parameters at higher doses of application.
Further studies on using biochar in soils with low fertility will be necessary to establish its efficiency as an enhancer for agricultural production in Serbia.

AB - Given that climate change is a burning issue, agriculture must turn to more sustainable and environmentally friendly systems, counting intercropping. Within a two-year study of intercropping sunflower with legumes, the influence of this system on sunflower plant height and head diameter was investigated. The aim of research was to evaluate the effects of sunflower-legume intercropping on these traits, considering the possibility of competition between crops. The field trial was set up in April 2017 and 2018 at Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad, Republic of Serbia experimental field in moderate-continental climate. Year 2017 was extremely arid with the sum of precipitation different compared to 2018. Plant height and head diameter of hybrids Rimi PR, Dukat and NS Gricko, intercropped with common vetch, red clover and alfalfa were compared with control, i.e. same sunflower hybrids grown as a sole crop. It was observed that intense growth of common vetch suppressed the growth of sunflower, and led to a decrease in measured traits in all three hybrids. Results indicated that the following combinations of sunflower and legumes are most desirable: NS Gricko/RC, Dukat/ALF, Dukat/RC and Rimi PR/ RC depending on the agro-ecological conditions. Given that the experiment was performed in years that varied significantly in agro-ecological conditions, the results indicated that red clover and alfalfa can mitigate the negative effects caused by lack of precipitation and high temperatures. In order to better understand all aspects of sunflowerlegume intercropping, further research, which should include other morphological, qualitative and quantitative indicators, is needed.

AB - Spelt wheat (Triticum spelta L.) is regarded as a crop with high nutritional properties. Cultivar Nirvana was analyzed on nine locations in semiarid conditions of northern Serbia in order to assess the effects of different agroecological conditions on the organic spelt wheat production, grain yield and yield components, as well as the quality of the spelt wheat. The highest dehulled grain yield was obtained in Nadalj organic farm (3.98 t ha-1) on a carbonated chernozem, and the highest protein content in whole grain flour was found in organic spelt wheat from Pančevo (13.94%). Correlation analysis showed significant positive correlations among grain yield, spike length, spike weight, number of grains per spike, 1000-grain weight and harvest index and among plant height, spike length, weight spike, and grain weight per spike. Our study indicated that growing spelt wheat in northern Serbia could result in higher grain yield, but protein content depended on crop management on each location.

AB - Buckwheat and soybean are regarded as important crops in organic production and their production could contribute to achieving farm sustainability. However, this significance derives from a preceding effect, but less research is done on these crops as major crops. The aim of this study is to examine soil properties under different mulches and bio-fertilizers in soybean NS Kaća and buckwheat Novosadska. The experiment was set up in semiarid conditions in the Center for organic production in Selenča with 3 types of mulches: wood chips, straw, living mulch as well as commercial fertilizers and soil enhancers: organic NPK fertilizer, Ascophyllum nodosum extract and microbiological stimulator. Mulches were helpful in maintaining the physical properties of soil, but they could not preserve the chemical properties of soil. Buckwheat manifested better chemical and physical soil properties compared to soybean. Our results showed differences regarding mulch application in terms of impact on soil, which could serve as a basis for improving the management of buckwheat and soybean under organic production systems in semiarid conditions.

abstract = "Buckwheat and soybean are regarded as important crops in organic production and their production could contribute to achieving farm sustainability. Our results showed differences regarding mulch application in terms of impact on soil, which could serve as a basis for improving the management of buckwheat and soybean under organic production systems in semiarid conditions., Heljda i soja smatraju se važnim kulturama u organskoj proizvodnji i njihova proizvodnja mogla bi pridonijeti postizanju održivosti poljoprivrednih gospodarstava. AB - The relationship between soil carbon fractions in Chernozem soils was
assessed in soil samples of three different environments: arable soil,
grassland and oak forest. Grassland and oak forest had higher soil organic
carbon (SOC), carbon soluble in hot water (HWC), particulate organic carbon
(POC) and mineral-associated carbon (MOC) than the arable soil. The POC/MOC
ratio was lowest in arable soil, indicating a smaller carbon pool for
microbial turnover. POC increases with higher total SOC, indicating that the
preservation of organic matter depends on the renewal of labile fractions.
Our results showed that fertilization had active role in soil carbon
stabilization, while crop rotation had less effect on a soil carbon
turnover. Our result could contribute to the better understanding of SOC
fractions composition and relevance in Chernozem soil, thus could help in
selection of cropping management systems for SOC preservation. [Projects of the Serbian Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Grant no. TR031072

AB - In this study, the role of the different management strategies was investigated, to elucidate soil organic carbon (SOC) loss under the long-term winter wheat cropping. Soil samples from wheat-based cropping systems and native vegetation were analyzed to assess SOC, total nitrogen, water-stable aggregates, mean weight diameter, and the carbon management index. Tillage practices involved moldboard plowing and field cultivators. Differences in SOC contents between treatments were dependant on tillage intensity, biomass production, and fertilization. In the 0-20 cm layer, the highest SOC contents occurred in the gt 2000 mu m soil fraction that received 40 t ha(-1) farmyard manure every fourth year and the lowest SOC content occurred in the 53-250 mu m fraction in the unfertilized treatment. Manure application influenced SOC content and its distribution among soil aggregate fractions but did not affect water-stable aggregates. SOC was primarily enriched within the gt 2000 mu m aggregates, so their turnover is essential for SOC preservation. The carbon management index was highest in 20-40 cm soil depth, which emphasizes the importance of deeper soil layers in SOC conservation. In conclusion, declining SOC levels are related to tillage practices which could not be compensated by fertilization or crop rotation.

AB - Efficient fertilizer management in maize production is based on supplying adequate amounts of nutrients for optimum economic yield, while minimizing losses to the environment. Exploiting genotypic differences in fertilizers use is required for achieving nutrient-use efficiency and higher yield. This two-year field study was designed to evaluate the influence of different fertilizer combinations on nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) uptake patterns, and yield in novel maize hybrids. Four divergent maize hybrids NS 4023, NS 6010, NS 6030 and NS 640 were grown under eight NPK combinations: 1: P60K60; 2: P60K60 N-min (spring); 3: P60K60 + N40autumn Nmin (spring); 4: P60K60 +/- N-60spring; 5: P60K60 N-100spring; 6: P60K60 N-40autumn N-60spring Zn; 7: P60K60 +/- N-40autumn N-80spring Zn; 8: P60K60 + N-160spring + Zn in both years of study. Different NPK combinations significantly improved NPK contents in leaves and grains along with substantial increase in 1000-grain weight, grain yield, grain protein contents and net returns of all tested hybrids; however, hybrids behaved differently in this regard. The highest N content in maize leaves was found in NS 4023 (2.39%), potassium in NS 6030 and NS 6010 (1.73%). Fertilizer combinations with N addition in autumn and spring + Zn, fertilization based on N correction in spring, showed positive effects on N content in grain and leaves; however P contents in leaves were not affected with fertilization systems. Moreover, P and K concentrations in leaves and grains decreased, which may be associated to better efficiency of maize hybrids. The highest yield was obtained with P60K60 + N-40 autumn + N-60 spring Zn followed by fertilizer combinations, P601(60 N40 autumn + N-80 spring Zn and P60K60 + N-40 autumn + N-min spring. The highest net benefit of 2091.6 and 2043.9 $ ha(-1) was obtained in treatments: P60K60 +N-40 (autumn) + N-60 Zn-spring and P60K60 N - (40 autumn) + N-min (spring). In conclusion, the amount and timings of nutrients application significantly affect the yield and could help in determination of genotype potential. Moreover, the treatment combination, P60K60 + N-40 (autumn )+ N-60 (spring) Zn harvested maximum maize yield along with highest net benefits and benefit: cost ratio.

Moreover, the treatment combination, P60K60 + N-40 (autumn )+ N-60 (spring) Zn harvested maximum maize yield along with highest net benefits and benefit: cost ratio.",

AB - The purpose of this study is to compare the yields and yield components of 3 winter small grain cereals (wheat ('NS 40S'), oat ('NS Jadar') and rye ('NS Savo')) grown in conventional and organic production systems. The experiment was conducted as a block design with three replicates at the Bački Petrovac experiment field of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in 2016/2017. The fertilization of conventional cereals examined was based on mineral fertilization, whereas foliar fertilizers with green microalgae (Chlorella vulgaris) were applied in the organic production system. The results obtained indicate differences in the number of organic and conventional plants per m2 , particularly in the instance of winter wheat (277/m2 in the organic production system and 545/m2 in conventional production system). Relative to all the cereals observed, significantly higher grain yields per ha were determined in the conventional production system as a result of the mineral nitrogen addition. The research has shown that soil fertility and cultural practices play a decisive role in realizing the full yield potential of winter small grain cereals cultivated in the organic farming system.
AB - U ovom radu analizirana je proizvodnja 3 vrste ozimih žitarica (pšenica - NS 40S, ovas - NS Jadar i raž - NS Savo) kako bismo uporedili prinose i komponente prinosa u konvencionalnom i organskom sistemu, a u cilju unapređenja proizvodnje ovih žitarica u organskom sistemu uzgoja.

AB - The aim of the paper was to determine the influence of cover crops (CC) and cultivated crops in the subsequent sowing period (maize, soybean and sudan grass) on the physical properties of the soil, and above all on the soil compaction.Research was carried out at the Rimski Šančevi experimental station. Type of soil - chernozem. The winter CC consisted of the combined intercrops: winter pea (Pisum sativum ssp. Arvense L.) + triticale ((×Triticosecale Wittm. ex A. Camus) (PT) and single-species CC winter pea (P)and control (without CC). Plowing of CC and control plots was carried out in the last week of May 2018, and the sowing of maize, soybean and sudan grass was carried out in early June. Soil compaction was analyzed on the basis of collected data on the resistance of cone penetration into the soil and the immediate moisture content of the soil. The penetration resistance of the cone into the soil was determined using an electric penetrologger Eijkelkamp Penetrologger. Measurement of the resistance was carried out to a depth of 80 cm and expressed in MPa. Based on the conducted research, the smallest percentage content of soil moisture at depths of up to 20 cm was determined for maize varieties (PT) of 10.5% vol.and the highest on the control plot (without CC) (25.7% vol.), as a consequence of the absence of the CC, but also the dense structure of Sudan grass and reduced evaporation from the production area. The lowest Cone index (CI) was measured on a plot also with sudan grass, on the soil preceded by the cultivation of the winter pea as cover crop ( 2,3), while the highest index (3,6) was measured in the soybean crop on variants (PT). The specific resistance to penetration of the cone was varied both on varieties of inter CC (PT), single CC (P) and control, as well as in different cultivated species in the subsequent sowing period. The highest value of the specific resistance in the depth 0-20 cm was found in soybean (PT) 2.76 MPa, and also increased compation in the same crop in the layer (20-40 cm). On the basis of the obtained values it can be concluded that maize least affects soil compaction, unlike soybean, while in relation to the cover crops it is determined that the winter pea has the least impact on soil compaction.

AB - As organic agriculture represents one of the most sustainable ways of agricultural land use, the key purpose of this research was to improve confectionary sunflower production in organic agriculture. The trial compared seed yield per plant of conventional confectionary sunflower hybrids in organic vs conventional production. Subsequently, 1000 seed weight, seed yield per plant and kernel ratio of confectionary hybrids treated with the following fertilizers used in organic production: fertilizer of animal origin (G), fertilizer based on amino acids and nitrogen (T) and microbiological fertilizer (N) were compared with untreated control (C). Fertilizers enhanced yield of sunflower compared to untreated control; the highest yield was recorded in combined of G+N and G+T, all in organic agriculture system. NS Gricko had the lowest seed yield per plant compared to the other hybrids that significantly increased when treated with G+N fertilizers; same results were obtained in treatments of NS Slatki, and NS Leviathan. Preliminary results of the study indicated that application of organic fertilizers can have a positive effect on yield of sunflower in organic production conditions, which indicates that further research is necessary.

abstract = "As organic agriculture represents one of the most sustainable ways of agricultural land use, the key purpose of this research was to improve confectionary sunflower production in organic agriculture. Preliminary results of the study indicated that application of organic fertilizers can have a positive effect on yield of sunflower in organic production conditions, which indicates that further research is necessary., Kako organska poljoprivreda predstavlja jedan od najodrživijih načina korišćenja poljoprivrednog zemljišta, svrha ovog istraživanja bila je poboljšanje proizvodnje konzumnog suncokreta u organskoj poljoprivredi.

AB - Intercropping, as ecologically designed agricultural system, could help in agriculture advancement for many crops. The aim of research was to evaluate the effects of legume-sunflower intercropping and their interaction on the sunflower seed yield during 2017 and 2018 vegetation seasons. A field experiment was set up by intercropping three sunflower hybrids (Dukat, Rimi PR, and NS Gricko) with three types of legumes (Vicia sativa L., Medicago sativa L., and Trifolium pratense L.), whereas sole crops of sunflower were used as control. The Additive Main Effects and Multiplicative Interaction Analysis (AMMI) was used to test the main effects and interaction of intercrops. Year × crop combinations were examined as 8 environments. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) tests of seed yield in 8 environments indicated highly significant effects of genotype, environment and their interaction, with the following share: genotype 61.78%, environment 27.69%, and interaction 10.53%. Mean seed yield of the hybrids varied from 3 t/ha (Dukat), 3.5 t/h (Rimi PR), to 4.4 t/ha (NS Gricko). Knowing that hybrid Dukat, which had the smallest seed yield, is a short vegetation hybrid, while NS Gricko, which had the highest seed yield, is a confectionary hybrid, the results were expected.

AB - In the present study, the long-term effects of crop rotation and fertiliser (manure, harvest residues and mineral fertilisers) use on the presence of phosphorus and its fractions at different soil depths was monitored and analysed in relation to the long-term use of particular maize growing systems. The 270 analysed soil samples were obtained as a part of a long-term two-factorial trial with four replications initiated in 1965. The plan of divided plots (split-plot design with randomised variants) was adopted and the following factors were analysed: (1) Fertilising systems: single-crop system (control, NPK, NPK + maize remains, NPK + manure) and two-crop rotation-maize / barley (NPK + manure) and (2) Soil layers at different depths: 0-20 cm, 20-40 cm, and 40-60 cm. The highest value of readily available phosphorus was found in all studied soil layers in the two-crop rotation treatment with organic and mineral fertilisers. On the other hand, the treatments involving manure application resulted in the highest content of total and organic phosphorus, whereby a 27-70% increase was observed, depending of the variant. The greatest presence of Ca-P fraction was obtained in treatments based on organic matter use, ranging from 364.4 to 482.8 mg kg(-1). Nonetheless, in the treatments involving application of organic matter, fraction related to this group had a significantly lower contribution to the total inorganic phosphorus, ranging from 56% to 86%, depending on the variant. Correlations obtained via principal component analysis (PCA) showed clear demarcation among treatments and control samples based on the use of manure and mineral fertilisers.
