U ovoj studiji su ispitivani prinosi sorti: prosa (Biserka i Rumenka), heljde (Novosadska), sirka za zrno (Alba i Gold), sirka metlas a (Prima i Reform), konoplje (Helena i Marina), facelije (NS Priora), uljanog lana (NS Primus i NS Marko) i uljane tikve (Olivija i Olinka).

AB - Currently, there are increased interests in growing grain and fiber hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) as well as in large-scale hemp products. Cannabis has been grown/utilized for thousands of years as a fiber, grain, and drug/medicinal plant. However, the strict control of cannabis cultivation to combat illegal use, the spread of new yarns and oilseeds, and the advent of cheap synthetic fibers caused a decreased/eliminated hemp production. Hemp has been banned in most of the world for more than seven decades; it missed out on the Green Revolution and the adoption of new technologies and varieties, creating a knowledge gap. After the 2014 and 2018 Farm Bill in the USA, hemp became legal and the land grand universities launched research programs. The ability to utilize the entire plant for multiple purposes creates opportunity for the market to value hemp products. Hemp production technology varies depending on the type of hemp cultivated (grain, fiber, or cannabinoids), soil characteristics, and environmental factors. Hemp has the potential to be a very sustainable and ecologically benign crop. Hemp roots have a significant potential for absorbing and storing heavy metals such as lead, nickel, cadmium, and other harmful substances. In addition, hemp has been proven to be an excellent carbon trap and biofuel crop. Hemp has the ability to successfully suppress weeds, and it is generally regarded a pesticide-free crop. The purpose of this paper is to examine historic and recent industrial hemp (grain and fiber) literature, with a focus on hemp agronomy and utilization.

AB - The main goal of sustainable agriculture and rural development is to increase food production and food security in a sustainable way. The increasing demand for food and feed initiated cultivation of new or less cultivated plant species, especially in regions where the staple crops cultivation is difficult. The diverse requirements of agricultural producers, processing industries and consumers, in terms of cultivation, processing and the quality of primary raw materials and products, as well as the economic and ecological benefits of growing alternative crops, impose the need for inter- and multidisciplinary research and the use of twenty-first-century tools for the transfer and application of acquired knowledge. The paper aims to illustrate how agricultural practice and grower demands drive scientific research. Through an overview of knowledge creators and providers, organizations and associations, dedicated events and publications, the work maps new research paths for more advanced applications of these crops.

AB - Quantitative variations in the sex ratio significantly affect the industrial hemp (fiber hemp) cultivation, since the production is closely related to the reproductive biology of the species. Both dioecious and monoecious varieties are cultivated, but only monoecious ones enable simultaneously mechanized harvesting of stalks and grains. 2-chloroethylphosphonic acid (Ethrel®) is a synthetic plant growth regulator that affects sex expression and suppresses stem elongation and plant growth. Thus, four various dosages of Ethrel® were applied as foliar sprays to fiber hemp plants cv. Marina, twice- in stage of flower primordia and, two weeks later in stage of flower formation. The trial was set up in Bački Petrovac at experimental field of the IFVCNS, as completly randomized block design in three replicates. Sex ratio in the control plots was 37.11 to 62.89% in favor of femail plants. Although the ratio significantly changed with increase of applied Ethrel dosages (47.84 to 52.15 at maximal applied Ethrel concentration, 2.5 ml l-1), the total grain yield significantly decreased only if plants were treated with the highest dosage, 748.04 kg ha-1 compared to 836.81 kg ha-1 in control plots. Treated plants had shorter stems (276.78 cm and 233.84 cm in control and plants treated with 2.5 ml l-1 of Ethrel, respectively) with lower fiber content. The fiber content in these stems was by 8% lower (20.10%) compared to the stem fiber content of the control plants (28.25%). The applied Ethrel treatments had no statistically significant effect on the hemp stem diameter.

AB - One-year experiments conducted with one hemp variety were established to determinate the cultivation practices (growth density and pinching) which could be used to optimize the technological process of hemp varieties production for different purposes. The results showed that reduced crop density and pinching result in development of shorter plants. In denser non-pinched crops, the stem is over 180 cm high, while the plants start branching in the upper 1/4-1/5 part. In the non-pinched treatment with a larger area available for individual plants, as well as in the pinched treatments, more productive branches of less thickness develop in the lower parts. The non-pinched treatments generally produce higher stem and fiber yields, which increase when crop density is reduced. The obtained results can serve as a basis for determining certain treatments during the evaluation of production technology for different varieties of hemp intended for specific purposes.

AB - In order to define the most optimal technique for field trials that would allow broader exploration of the interaction of G x E x M (G - genotype, E - environmental conditions, M - crop management) in hemp seed production, one-year trials were set up with the typically dioecious hemp variety Marina. The trials included three different crop densities (20, 150, and 300 plants m2?) and the control unpinched variant which was compared with the apical bud removal treatment (pinching) at a plant height of 60 cm. The results showed that with pinching in all crop densities, a decrease in plant height and an increase in seed yield are achieved. The highest seed yields of over 1200 kg ha were achieved in the pinched crop with 20 and 150 plants m 2, which can be considered the optimal method for determining the yield potential of the genotype. The obtained results of the preliminary research will serve as a basis for recommendations for commercial hemp seeds production, as well as for defining the method for testing the wider germplasm in the hemp breeding programs.

AB - Several winter and spring alternative crops are grown in our country. Similar to the yield of staple field crops, the yield of minor cultivated crops is affected by complex climate-soil interactions, abiotic and biotic stress and cultivation technology. If grown solely for the production of plant raw materials (aboveground biomass, grain and/or root) for conversion into biofuels and bioenergy, the alternative crops are energy - crops. Although they have different botanical affiliations, morphologies and origins, energy - crops can be: oilseeds (oil rapeseed, camelina, white mustard, castor), starch-sugar (sorghum, Sudanese grass, corn) and lignocellulosic (miscanthus, hemp). From the point of view of agronomy, the prerequisite for increasing the area under energy - plant species for the production of biofuels in Serbia is the improvement of assortment, cultivation technology and mechanization. The paper provides an overview of agronomic forms and cultivation technology of several specific alternative plant species in the context of using crop biomass for energy purposes.

AB - Interest in growing hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) is constantly increasing. Different varieties of hemp grown in Serbia (Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Bački Petrovac) were evaluated by plant height, stem yield, fibre content, fibre yield and seed yield. Carmagnola variety reached the highest height, Fedora 17 the lowest. Stem yields, which averaged 13.23±2.93 t/ha, had a high correlation relationship with plant height. The highest and demonstrably most significant fibre content was found in the variety Bialobrzeskia (30.77±0.78%). The fibre yield averaged 3.3±0.64 t/ha. The highest seed fertility was shown by the Novosadska variety. A significant difference (P≤0.05) between 2017 and 2018 in seed production was 51.28 kg/ha. The results of the experiment indicate the importance of the genotype x environment interaction in hemp production.

AB - Market demand for quality varietal seeds of industrial hemp has caused an increase in the production area of hemp certified seed crops in our country. Maintenance and multiplication of varietal seed is in the competence of a registered institution which is the owner or maintainer of the variety. Production, processing and marketing of industrial hemp certificated seed are regulated by the Seed Law. Many elements of agricultural practices are common in cultivation of hemp as certified seed crop and for the grain. There are also agricultural practices specific for certified industrial hemp seed crop production. Compared to the cultivation management of the hemp grain crop, main differences are in crop maintenance practices, sowing and harvesting.

AB - Nepeta cataria, also known as catnip or catmint, is the most widespread and intensively
studied species. The name catmint is derived from the strong attraction most cats have towards this
species. Because of this, it is often used in pet toy industry as a safe attractant for cats. The main
compounds responsible for this reaction in cats are nepetalactones. However, N. cataria var.
citriodora or lemon catnip, an aromatic herb with a lemony-mint flavor, resembles true catnip, but is
not attractive to cats. This variety is a good source for industrial production of citral and an attractive
raw material for food industry and cooking; it is used as a dry spicy mixture for dessert dishes, in
manufacturing of cheese, sausages, alcoholic beverages (liqueurs and vermouth) and soft drinks,
vegetable and fruit canned food. N. cataria is cultivated for ornamental purposes, and because of the
long flowering duration and large production of pollen and nectar it is very suitable for beekeeping.
According to scientific reports, N. cataria possess antioxidant, hepatoprotective and antidiabetic
activities, as well as sedative, antidepressant, spasmolytic, anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory
activities. Experiments show that this plant influences sexual activity, and expresses anticancer
properties. Antimicrobial activity against a number of bacteria is also noted, as well as repellent and
insecticidal properties. Nematodidal and allelopathic effects are also noted.

abstract = "Nepeta cataria, also known as catnip or catmint, is the most widespread and intensively
studied species.
Nematodidal and allelopathic effects are also noted.",

Visoke (> 30°C) i vrlo visoke (> 35°C) temperature vazduha u periodu zametanja i sazrevanja plodova nepovoljno utiču na sadržaj karotenoida u plodu.
AB - The nutritional composition and organoleptic properties of the fruit areof great importance in the market placement of butternut squash. Therefore, in addition to the yield, the quality parameters should be takeninto account when selecting parents for crosses. The paper analyzes thecontent of dry matter, sugar and carotenoids in the flesh of fruits of 11genotypes of butternut squash, grown during three consecutive seasons(2016, 2017, 2018). Significant differences were found among genotypesand seasons in terms of all examined parameters. The highest values ofall parameters were determined for genotype B2208, and the lowest forMo 8-15. High (> 30 °C) and very high (> 35 °C) air temperatures duringfruit set and ripening adversely affect the carotenoid content of the fruit. The sugar content in the warmer seasons (2017, 2018) is higher comparedto the 2016 season, when temperatures were close to multi-year averagesand maximum daily temperatures did not exceed 35 °C. Genotype B2208is a candidate for involvement in the breeding program aimed to improvethe butternut squash quality.

AB - Allelopathic effects of different plant allelochemicals have become the focus of studies that aim to determine new pesticidal compounds. Plant extracts with different chemical compositions can be obtained using different methods of extraction, whereas studies dealing with allelopathic properties use biotests to obtain fast and precise results. Such studies were undertaken after noticing the allelopathic effects of industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) on the surrounding crops. Trials that involve the application of hemp extracts obtained by different methods resulted in determining the hemp allelopathic effects on Stellaria media (L.)Scop., Beta vulgaris ssp. vulgaris var. vulgaris, Lupinus albus L., corn (Zea mays L.), Cyperus rotundus L., Matricaria recutita L., Lepidium sativum L., lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), rapeseed (Brassica napus L.), wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), rye (Secale cereal M. AB - In this work, different extraction techniques (soxhlet extraction, hydrodistillation, subcritical water extraction and supercritical carbon dioxide extraction followed by conventional extraction) were employed for the isolation of bioactive compounds from the areal parts of industrial hemp (Cannabis sativa L.). The extraction process parameters, time and temperature for subcritical water extraction and pressure, temperature and time for supercritical carbon dioxide extraction, on the extraction yield and the content of bioactive compounds from hemp were examined. As the plant material after supercritical carbon dioxide still contains hydrophilic compounds, conventional extraction was used for isolation of these. The content of cannabidiol, the main cannabinoid present in hemp, in supercritical carbon dioxide extracts was between 71.84–163.11 mg/g, while in soxhlet extract it was much lower (64.40 mg/g). In comparison to these the significantly lower cannabidiol content was detected in subcritical water extracts, ranging from 0.0039 to 0.0183 mg/mL. Comparing all applied extraction techniques, supercritical carbon dioxide followed by conventional extraction was selected as the most valuable process for bioactive compounds isolation for hemp.

AB - Program of improving of industrial hemp production at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad started in the middle of the 20th century. During seven decades, several generations of researchers have dedicated their work to develop an assortment that will meet producers’ needs in terms of improvement of yield and quality of hemp raw material. Starting from the available germplasm and the requirements of the fiber hemp producers, in the first cycle, an increase in the stalk fiber content by approximately 30% was achieved. Following the development of the market for hemp products in the second cycle, the fiber content was increased by another 10% and a monoecious high-yielding variety with a grain oil content of over 30% was selected. The latest global trends related to healthy food and natural raw materials have initiated the next breeding cycle based on the wide genetic variability of collected and newly developed germplasm. Modern breeding, in addition to yield, is focused to the quality of raw materials i.e. stalk, grain and flower, obtained by widespread production of hemp.

AB - Although hemp is one of the earliest domesticated plant species, the breeding of hemp has long been neglected. In the new millennium, interest in hemp as a universal renewable raw material is growing rapidly. The high and stable yield of air-dried stems (over 15 t ha-1) with a high content (over 35%) of quality fibers and grains (over 1 t ha-1) are general objectives of breeding of new hemp varieties all over the world. Following various breeding procedures, the content of plant active substances cannabinoids and natural biocompounds can be also elevated. The plant content of A9-THC, a psychoactive cannabinoid, must be maintained below the legal maximum. Breeding methods for creating genetically modified hemp exist, but still are not applied in hemp production.
Visok i stabilan prinos vazdušno suve stabljike (preko 15 t ha-1) s visokim sadržajem (preko 35%) kvalitetnih vlakana i zrna (preko 1 t ha-1) glavni su ciljevi oplemenjivačkih programa konoplje širom sveta.

AB - Hemp (Cannabis sativa L.) was one of the earliest domesticated plant species. Biological classification (taxonomy or systematization) manifests evolutional relationships between taxons according to trait similarities. When it comes to taxonomy, hemp is one of the most controversial plant species due to significant effects of environmental conditions on hemp phenology and expression of quantitative traits as well as different levels of gender expression observed in hemp plants. Controversial taxonomy of hemp has gone through several phases throughout history. The attitude on the number of species within the genus Cannabis and the criteria used in taxonomic units division were under dispute. Initially focused on morphological characteristics and geographical origin, the approach was greatly amended by the development of molecular and biochemical techniques. The main cause of taxonomic uncertainties is the inbreeding ability of all wild Cannabis populations, resulting in continual variability of quantitative traits. The aim of the paper is to review the history of Cannabis classification including different approaches to this scientific issue.

AB - BACKGROUND Cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.) is one of the most controversial plants. So far, its multiple application in industry for the production of fabrics, paper and construction materials is known. Today, there is increasing interest in its application for medical purposes, as opposed to its opiate activity. In addition to well-known cannabinoids, the presence of polyphenolic compounds and their antioxidant and reductive abilities are of great importance. Therefore the extraction of both constituents, polyphenolics and cannabinoids (Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD)), of industrial hemp was carried out using microwave-assisted extraction (MAE). RESULTS The effects of different extraction parameters, namely ethanol concentration (30, 50 and 70% v/v), extraction time (10, 20 and 30 min) and solid/liquid ratio (5, 10 and 15 g mL(-1)), on extraction yield, total phenol content, total flavonoid content, antioxidant activity, reductive capacity, CBD content and THC content were investigated using response surface methodology. For the experimental design, a Box-Behnken design was chosen. In the obtained extracts, the following ranges of targeted compounds were detected: total phenols from 0.8499 to 2.7060 mg gallic acid equivalent mL(-1), total flavonoids from 0.4707 to 1.4246 mg catechin equivalent mL(-1), THC from 0.0339 to 0.0637 mg mL(-1) and CBD from 0.2243 to 1.8415 mg mL(-1). Antioxidant activity ranged from 0.0009 to 0.2079 mL mL(-1), while reductive capacity ranged from 0.0021 to 0.0066 mL mL(-1). CONCLUSION MAE proved to be a simple, efficient, fast and low environmental impact method for obtaining polyphenols and cannabinoids from C. sativa L. Cannabis herb, which presents a by-product of fiber and cannabis product, showed to be a promising source of bioactive compounds.

AB - Sorghum is considered as tolerant species toward different environmental conditions. Genetic potential for sorghum yield is being exploited depending on the intensity of production and effect of biotic and abiotic environmental factors. Beside drought, which is the most important abiotic stress factor, extreme temperatures and soil factors can affect sorghum production and yield. This paper gives a summary of previous studies related to the effects of extreme temperatures and unfavorable soil pH on sorghum plants, as well as the plants reaction to such effects. The summary includes studies related to variability analysis of sorghum germplasm and patterns of inheriting tolerance towards stress caused by extremely low or high temperatures and production on acid or alkaline soils.
