AB - In this work, the chemical composition analysis was performed for cold pressed oils
obtained from the 15 sunflower hybrids grown in Serbia and Argentina, as well as the determination of their oxidative quality. The fatty acid composition and bioactive compounds including total tocopherols, phenols, carotenoids, and chlorophyll contents were investigated. The oxidation products were monitored through the peroxide value (PV), anisidine value (AnV), conjugated dienes (CD) and conjugated trienes (CT) content, and total oxidation index (TOTOX) under accelerated oxidation conditions by the oven method.
Results: Linoleic acid was the most abundant fatty acid in investigated oil samples, followed by oleic and palmitic acids. The mean contents of total tocopherols, phenols, carotenoids, and chlorophyll were 518.24, 9.42, 7.54 and 0.99 mg/kg, respectively. In order to obtain an overview
of sample variations according to the tested parameters Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was
applied.
Conclusion: PCA indicated that phenols, chlorophyll, linoleic and oleic acid were the most
effective variables for the differentiation of sunflower hybrids grown in Serbia and Argentina.
Furthermore, based on the fatty acid composition and bioactive compounds content in the oils, a
new Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model was developed to predict the oxidative stability
parameters of cold pressed sunflower oil.

AB - In this paper, the fatty acid composition of various vegetable oils was determined using gas chromatography with flame-ionizing detection. The analysed oils were obtained by pressing seeds of different genotypes of sesame, chickpeas, caper spurge, flax, okra, saffron, pumpkin and oily gourd from the collection of alternative oil varieties of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops Novi Sad grown during 2020. Based on the composition of individual fatty acids in the tested samples, the content of saturated fatty acids (SFA), unsaturated fatty acids (UFA), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), w3, w6, w6/w3 was determined, as well as nutritional indices: AI, TI and HH, on the basis of which the quality of vegetable oils was assessed. The investigated samples were characterized by relatively low content of SFA and high content of UFA. The values of nutritional indices ranged from AI 0.06-0.38, TI 0.08-0.75 and HH 2.75-18.91. Unlike okra oil, which has proven to be a vegetable oil of the undesirable nutritional quality, in terms of the high content of SFA and unfavorable values of nutritional indices, most other oils can be characterized as valuable sources of oleic, linoleic and linolenic acid, while only flaxseed oil and molehill oil had favorable low values of w6/w3 fatty acids.

AB - Hybridization of sunflower seeds went in the direction of increasing the oil content of the seeds as a major technological requirement. Today, oily sunflower hybrid seed contain over 40% of the oil. There are two ways of oil extraction: chemically using solvents or mechanically using presses. The oil yield is higher during solvent extraction, however, such oil requires further refining. A lower oil yield is obtained by extracting the oil by pressing but this oil requires minimal additional treatment. Oil yield obtained by pressing on the screw press is influenced by the characteristics of the seed (eg oil content, moisture, hull content, impurity content, etc.) and screw press characteristics.

AB - Sunflower seed hybridization is aimed at increasing the oil content of the seed as a basic technological requirement. Sunflower hybrids with high oil content (over 40%) are known as oily hybrids. ese hybrids are characterized by black seeds, with a thin hull, with no significant variations in dimensions. On the other hand, the potential of sunflower protein has been increasingly recognized lately, and sunflower hybrids with increased protein content, non-oily (confectionary) sunflower hybrid seeds are being created. Confectionary hybrids are characterized by larger seeds with a thicker, most commonly black and white stripes hull. In this paper, the geometric characteristics of two oily and two non-oily sunflower hybrid seeds were analized and compared. Geometric characteristics were determined using a vernier caliper per 100 individual seeds with an accuracy of 0.05 mm.

AB - The growing demand for vegetable oils used in human and animal nutrition or for the processing
industry contributed to the evaluation of other, insufficiently used plant species for farming and
commercial production. Alternative oil seeds represent good sources of nutrients but are also an
important raw material for the various non-food products (biofuel, biopolymers, lubricants, etc.) In
this study, oil contents in seeds of several alternative oil species were analysed and compared with
those of two different genotypes of rapeseeds. Examined samples included white mustard (Sinapis
alba L.), black mustard (Brassica nigra), two different genotypes of rapeseed (Brassica napus), and
two genotypes of camelina (Camelina sativa Crtz.) and safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.). All
analysed samples were from the collection of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops (Novi Sad,
Serbia). Oil contents determined by the conventional Soxhlet method ranged from 15.92 to 33.26%
on dry matter. White mustard had the lowest oil content, while the highest oil content was
determined in rapeseeds. Considering oil yields in alternative oilseeds, camelina with oil contents
from 28.51 to 29.33%, besides for human consumption, could be considered as a potential
alternative to conventional rapeseed as industrial raw material for different purposes.

AB - Polyphenols and flavonoids represent a group of compounds with high antioxidant activity. They are called nutraceuticals due to the many favorable effects on human health including anti-cancer, anti-inflammation, anti-allergenic, anti-microbial and anti-atherogenic actions. Those bioactive compounds can be extracted from many plant sources, including wastes from various food industries, and further be utilized for the development of various functional foods. Sunflower seed cake represents a waste from production of cold pressed sunflower oils. It can be exploited for isolation of various bioactive compounds which it contains. In this work, contents of total polyphenols and flavonoids were determined in sunflower seed cakes (n=20) in order to assess potential of this by-product as a source of beneficial natural compounds.

AB - In this paper, the possibility of improving the nutritional quality of refined sunflower oil (S) by adding cold pressed flaxseed oil (L) from the aspect of fatty acid content, as well as certain nutritional indices, was investigated. The content of fatty acids was determined using gas chromatography - mass spectrometry, by analysing fatty acid methyl esters. The contents of saturated fatty acids (SFA), monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), as well as the content of ω3 and ω6 fatty acids were calculated. By adding flaxseed oil, a significant increase in the content of ω3 fatty acid was observed in the obtained mixtures. No significant changes in the content of SFA were observed during mixing, the content of MUFA was reduced by the addition of flaxseed oil from 30.44 % m/m to 17.15 % m/m, while the content of PUFA increased from 59.78 % m/m to 73.15 % m/m. The obtained PUFA/SFA ratios for mixtures ranged from 6.07 to 7.54, which is consistent with a reduction in risk factors for increased blood cholesterol levels. Atherogenic and thrombogenic indices were much lower than 1, while HH indices were relatively high 14.70-18.03, which are also in accordance with the recommended values from the nutritional aspect of oil quality. The criterion that most affected the quality of mixed oils was the ω6/ω3 ratio, and the optimal values of this ratio (1-5) were achieved by adding 30 to 60% of cold pressed flaxseed oil. Compared to the control sample O, the obtained mixtures showed a great advantage in terms of PUFA content, ω3, ω6, while the extremely high MUFA content and slightly lower SFA content determined in sample O.

AB - Most vegetable oils obtained by cold pressing are yellow or yellowish-brown, with red or green tone. The color of the oil is a consequence of the presence of colored macromolecules (pigments). The most common natural pigments in the oils are carotenoids (yellow) and chlorophylls, green color pigments. The color is also affected by the content of various non-glyceride ingredients present in the oils, but also by various products formed during the inadequate management of the technological process. The aim of this study was to examine the content of the most abundant pigments (total carotenoids and total chlorophylls) in sunflower oil obtained by cold pressing of three confectionary (non-oily) sunflower hybrids (NS-H-6318, NS-H-6307 and NS-H-6308), as well as to determine their influence on instrumentally determined color parameters (CIE L*a *b* system and transparency). Negative a* values noticed in examined samples indicate presence of green pigments in examined oils.

AB - The confectionary/non-oil seed of sunflower hybrids is characterized by a higher content of the hull, which is thicker than the oil seed hybrids of sunflower. These seeds can be of different size and shape, with a hull not completely black. The aim of this study is to examine the dimensions of confectionary seeds of the latest NS sunflower hybrids. The results of the analyzed seed samples of the latest hybrids of second filial (F2) generation (NS-H-6792, NS-H-6489, NS-H-6311) are compared with the results of already-used hybrid seeds (Cepko). Equivalent diameter and linear dimensions of seed are characterized by Malik and Saini, 2016. The highest specific value of the equivalent diameter was 8.25±0.60 mm (NS-H-6792) and the smallest was 7.90±0.30 mm (NS-H-6311). Only 24.33% of the measured seeds were between 15.00 and 15.99 mm long, which is the most frequent length interval. The average seed width is from 7.00 to 7.99 mm (44.33%), while the average seed thickness is from 4 to 4.99 mm, which was measured in 46.67% of examined seeds. From the above results of the linear dimensions it can be concluded that the seeds are the most different in length, while the distribution of the results by width and thickness is less.

AB - Because of the favorable amino acid composition of sunflower protein and low content of antinutritive components, the confectionary/non-oil sunflower seed is increasingly gaining in importance. This is why there is a need for increasing the number of this type of hybrids. Breeding new hybrids of different characteristics are obtained. In order to investigate the composition of the seed, three samples of the latest NS hybrids of second filial (F2) generation (NS-H-6792, NS-H-6489, NS-H-6311) were analyzed and compared with the results of the hybrid seed already-used (Cepko). The content of moisture was determined according to SRPS EN ISO 665, 2008, the content of the oil according to SRPS EN ISO 659, 2011, while the mass of 1000 seeds and the content of hull and kernels were made according to Karlović & Andrić, 1996. The moisture content ranged from 5.75±0.00% in the sample NS-H-6792 to 6.57±0.03%, in the sample NS-H-6489. The oil content was in the range of 25.62±0.22%, found in the sample NS-H-6311 to 23.12±0.16%, found in the sample NS-H 6489. The highest content of the hull was found in the NS-H-6792 sample, 46.74±0.80%, while the smallest content of the hull was found in the sample NS-H-6311 and amounted to 41.91±0.71%.

AB - Vegetable oils rich in antioxidant are of great interest in the food industry as they decelerate oxidative degeneration of lipids and therefore promote the quality as well as the nutritional value of food. Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is one of the most abundant annual crops in the world that is grown for edible oil which is a good source of bioactive compounds. Tocopherols belong to the most important bioactive compounds in oil which have many health benefits for human. These compounds preserve oil from peroxidation by scavenging lipid peroxyl radicals. In humans, tocopherols play an important role as vitamin E, contributing to maintaining the immune system and delaying the pathogenesis of a variety of degenerative diseases. Over the last few years, increased interest for natural antioxidant in cold‐pressed plant oils has been observed since they have better nutritive properties in comparison with refined ones. In this work, three cold-pressed sunflower oils obtained from sunflower hybrids cultivated in Serbia (2017 harvest) were studied for their contents. Quantification of tocopherols was carried out using high performance liquid chromatography on a column Nucleosil 100-5 NH2 with fluorescence detection (λex=280 nm, λem=340 nm). The mobile phase was n-hexane/ethyl acetate (70/30%v/v) with a flow rate of 1 ml/min. The relative retention value and maximum values of absorption at the given relative retention time were used to identify and confirm the presence of tocopherolsin injection volume of 20 μl solution samples obtained by diluting of oil (300 µL) in n-hexane (2 ml). This research verified the dominant presence of α-tocopherol in cold-pressed sunflower oils. The content of α-tocopherol ranged between 497.40 mg/kg oil in NS Oliva hybrid and 691.46 mg/kg oil in NS Romeohybrid. The results have shown that there were differences in content of tocopherols among tested hybrids, indicating the great genetic potential for improvement.

AB - Safflower is a multipurpose crop with quality oil and brilliantly colored flowers which are used as a source of natural dyes for food and fabrics. In addition, different parts of the safflower plant have medicinal properties and are useful in treating many chronic diseases. Further, safflower oils are rich in polyunsaturated fatty acid (FA) with a fraction of some very desirable essential fatty acids (EFA). The increased interest for healthier food related with the consumption of long-chain n-3 fatty acids has conducted to the sale of supplements and fortified foods containing these fatty acids. Safflower oils can be considered functional foods without any biochemical additions. The objective of this study was to assay the fatty acid composition of oils obtained from eight safflower cultivars, which belong to the alternative oil crops collection of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad. Oil samples were obtained by pressing seeds in hydraulic press. Fatty acid composition was determined by gas chromatography (Konik HRGC 4000) coupled with a flame ionizing detector, after derivatization to their volatile methylesters (FAME). In order to chemically convert FA to FAME, 10 ul of oils were subjected to transesierification using 190 pl methanolic trimethylsulfonium hydroxide solution (0.2 mol/dm?). Peak identification was performed by comparing the relative retention times with those of a commercial standard mixture of FAME and FA contents are expressed as weight percentages of total FAME. The results have shown significant differences among the safflower cultivars regarding the fatty acids composition. In average, linoleic acid represented the most FA (74.96%) followed by oleic (15.15%), palmitic (5.79%), stearic (2.77%) and a-linolenic (0.40%) acids. Based on obtained results safflower oils were characterized by high proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids (mean value 75.48%) versus 15.32% of monounsaturated and 8.87% of saturated ones, indicating that the safflower is rich sourse of polyunsaturated EFA (linoleic and a-linolenic).

AB - In this work deaeration methods were investigated for chronopotentiometric determination of pesticide
imidacloprid [1-(6-chloro-3-pyridyimethyl)-N-nitroimidazolidin-2-ylideneamine] on glassy carbon
electrode. As a supporting electrolyte, a Britton-Robinson buffer was used. All investigations were
carried out in model systems. Cathodic peak of imidacloprid could not be registered only in BrittonRobinson buffer, due to electrochemical reduction of dissolved oxygen. For this reason, it was
necessary to investigate different deaeration methods for removing oxygen from the solution. Within
this, deaerations by various reductants and by passing a nitrogen stream were compared. Investigated
reductants were sodium sulfite, ascorbic acid, oxalic acid, potassium bromide and sodium bromide.
Combinations of a certain reductant and nitrogen were compared as well. Addition of a saturated
solution of sodium sulfite directly in the tested solution proved as the best deaeration method. This
method provided fast deaeration step as it took less than a minute for completely removing the
oxygen. An optimal concentration of the solution of sodium sulfite was also investigated.
Concentrations of sodium sulfite were tested in the range of 0.6 g/idm* to 230 gidm?. Considering the
height of the analytical signal and its reproducibility, concentration of 8.8 gldm? showed as optimal.
This method could be applied for the determination of imidacloprid in commercial formulations and
some real samples.
