The seedling structure of representatives of three genera in tribe Fabeae (Fabaceae) was studied with special reference to number and morphology of the first scaly leaves (cataphylls), and juvenile leaves as well as to some other features. The correlation between the number of cataphylls and life endurance is discussed. The trait is proposed to be more dependent on life form and environment than on the taxonomical position of species.
