AB  - There are challenges in monitoring the occurrence of rusts since population structure of wheat pathogens continuously change under selection pressures of agroecological conditions, resistant varieties and applied pesticides. Climate-change impacts on occurrence of yellow rust in Serbia were estimated in experiments involving efficacy testing for fungicides and breeding material resistance. The significant influence of climatic elements and varieties on disease index of yellow rust was confirmed and the most influencing were average temperatures in January (P = 0.000), variety (P = 0.000) and interaction between year and variety (P = 0.000). Furthermore, yield loss was significantly affected by the disease index of yellow rust (P = 0.000) and varieties (P = 0.000), but relationship of disease index and yield loss was not straightforward.

AB  - Fusarium head blight is one of the most important diseases on wheat which can cause numerous types of Fusarium genus. The most significant species that causes Fusarium head blight in USA, Canada and Europe is F. graminearum. The consequences of infection by Fusarium head blight are different, but the most common are reduced yield, physiological and physico-chemical changes of grain and grain mycotoxin contamination. The aim of this study is to test occurrence of natural infection by Fusarium head blight depending on varieties, applied amount of nitrogen (0 kg/ha, 50 kg/ha, 100 kg/ha, 150 kg/ha) from fertilizer of ammonium nitrate (AN 33-35% N) and depending on seeding rate (300 grains/m², 500 grains/m², 700 grains/m², 900 grains/m²). Experiment was set up on Rimski Šančevi, Novi Sad, Serbia, on chernozem soil group. The study included 10 current and perspective varieties of winter wheat and triticale, which were created at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. Occurrence of Fusarium head blight was tested during the growing season 2012/2013 on nine winter wheat varieties (Arabeska, NS 40S, Zvezdana, NS Desetka, NS Avangarda, NS Futura, NS Ilina, Emina, Enigma) and one triticale variety (Odisej). The evaluation of the intensity of occurrence of infected ears was performed in phenophase of milk and wax maturity of wheat grain. The obtained results were statistically processed in the program Statistica 12 by using analysis of variance and Duncan's multiple range test. Tested varieties had low average number of infected ears by Fusarium head blight on the area of Rimski Šančevi during 2013. Out of ten tested varieties, the highest average number of infected ears had Zvezdana (6.0) and the lowest variety Odisej (1.3). A higher level of correlation between the number of infected ears by Fusarium head blight and seeding rate was established at NS Futura variety. That indicates an increase of the number of infected ears with increasing seeding rate.
Different amounts of the applied nitrogen for wheat top fertilization showed different effects to the occurrence of Fusarium head blight. The highest average number of infected ears was established at variety Zvezdana with 50 kg/ha of the applied nitrogen from fertilizer of ammonium nitrate. By increasing amounts of nitrogen, the number of infected ears increased at varieties NS 40S, NS Desetka, NS Futura and Enigma.

AB  - Za uspešnu proizvodnju strnih žita, neophodno je da primarnim poljoprivrednim proizvodačima bude dostupno seme odličnog kvaliteta, uz visoke vrednosti fizičkih i fizioloških pokazatelja. Samo setvom sortnog certifikovanog semena, genetički potencijal sorte može doći do punog izražaja. što je i cilj svakog proizvođača. Paraziti semena strnih žita mogu izazvati značajno smanjenje prinosa. Upotreba semena sa zdravih (semenskih) useva uz primenu odgovarajućeg fungicida za tretiranje semena smatra se najefikasnijom merom za suzbijanje prouzrokovača bolesti strnih žita. Poboljšanje tehnologije proizvodnje, dorade i skladištenja strnih žita moraju se posmatrati kao jedinstvena celina u cilju dobijanja visokokvalitetnog semena .

Powdery mildew resistance in Serbian barley genotypes

AB  - Powdery mildew caused by Blumeria graminis f. sp. hordei is very common barley disease in Serbia. Therefore, lot of effort is put into the breeding for resistance to this pathogen. In this study, collection of Serbian barley genotypes consisted of 172 genotypes, was evaluated for the resistance to B. graminis
f. sp. hordei. The assessment was done repeatedly in the field trial, once a week, from growth stages 69 to 71. Types of infection and intensity of infection were determined. Coefficient of infection was calculated using the formula of the Levine and Basile, 1959. Furthermore, the Area Under Disease Progress Curve - AUDPC was determined.

izbijanja lista zastavičara, utječe na razvoj zrna pšenice i uzrokuje smanjenje njegove težine, što se izravno
odražava na prinos i kvalitetu. Pri primjeni fungicida na strnim žitaricama treba poštovati principe FRACa,
kako bi se izbjegla pojava rezistentnosti na pojedine aktivne tvari.
AB  - The protection of cereals from diseases should be based on the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The choice of strategy and model of applying preparations is in a direct correlation with specificity of pathogen, weather conditions for their development and phenophases of plant development. Considering the fact that ear, flag leaf and a leaf below flag leaf are the carriers of yield, it is necessary to keep their vitality as long as possible. The loss of green leaf area after the emergence of flag leaf affects the development of wheat grain and causes the decrease in its weight, which is directly reflected in yield and quality. While applying fungicides to cereals, the principles of FRAC should be respected in order to avoid the appearance of resistance toward certain active substances
