AB  - Due to the increase in human population and rapid decrease in the cropping areas, improvement of winter wheat grain yield is the constant breeding objective worldwide. In general, increase in grain yield has mainly been related to the improvement of grain number per unit area, while progress in grain weight has been less pronounced. However, under less favorable environmental conditions, grain yield is often related to high grain weight. Most previous studies have analyzed the breeding impact on wheat grain yield, grain weight and grain number, whereas less information has been available on the changes in grain filling traits. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to analyze the progress and variation in grain weight and grain filling traits (rate and duration) in the set of winter wheat cultivars widely grown in the southern Pannonian region in the past 50 years. The field trials with historical set of 25 winter wheat cultivars were conducted in two growing seasons at the Experimental Field of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Serbia (typical Pannonian location).

AB  - Twenty-four cultivars of winter wheat, representing most of the cultivars released in Serbia from 1955 to 2006, were used in the study. AB  - Za uspešnu proizvodnju strnih žita, neophodno je da primarnim poljoprivrednim proizvodačima bude dostupno seme odličnog kvaliteta, uz visoke vrednosti fizičkih i fizioloških pokazatelja. Samo setvom sortnog certifikovanog semena, genetički potencijal sorte može doći do punog izražaja. što je i cilj svakog proizvođača. Paraziti semena strnih žita mogu izazvati značajno smanjenje prinosa. Upotreba semena sa zdravih (semenskih) useva uz primenu odgovarajućeg fungicida za tretiranje semena smatra se najefikasnijom merom za suzbijanje prouzrokovača bolesti strnih žita. Poboljšanje tehnologije proizvodnje, dorade i skladištenja strnih žita moraju se posmatrati kao jedinstvena celina u cilju dobijanja visokokvalitetnog semena .

Latent period and infection frequency as components of partial resistance to powdery mildew in some winter wheat varieties

AB  - Partial resistance to powdery mildew (Blumeria graminis f.sp. tritici) of 20 winter wheat varieties and a susceptible control variety Barbee was tested under controlled conditions. To asses the varieties for partial resistance, latent period (LP 50) and infection frequency (number of colonies per unit leaf area) were used. The variety Dragana showed the highest degree of partial resistance that involved a long latent period and low infection frequency. The varieties Angelina, Barbara and NS 27 /03 had a somewhat shorter LP 50, but a similar infection frequency; therefore, it seems likely that they also possess a high degree of partial resistance. Significantly high negative correlations were found between LP 50 and infection frequency (r= - 0.755).

AB  - Sorta Lovrin 25 i linija FR 81-19 uzete su kao izvori otpornosti prema Bumeria graminis tritici i Puccinia triticina na osnovu višegodišnjih testiranja u poljskim uslovima. Ukrštanja sa dve izuzetno osetljive sorte (Skopljanka i Barbee) prema obligatnim parazitima izvršena su 1990. godine. Kao rezultat, ovih ukrštanja, stvorene su NS RZL 225 i NS RZL 253 linije koje su posedovale odličnu otpornost ali loš tehnološki kvalitet i ostala agronomska svojstva. U 1997 godini novostvorene RZL linije ukrštene su sa, dve prinosne i raširene sorte u proizvodnji, Pesmom i Pobedom. Rezultat ovih ukrštanja su linije NS 3-4 731 i NS 3-5255 razvijene u oplemenjivačkom delu programa ozime pšenice u Naučnom institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo koje se odlikuju odličnom otpornošću prema obligatnim parazitima, visokim prinosom i odličnim tehnološkim kvalitetom.
AB  - Based on the results of the trials carried out under field conditions during several years the variety Lovrin 25 and line FR 81-19 were taken as a source of resistance to Blumeria graminis tritici and Puccinia triticina. Two varieties (Skopljanka and Barbee) particularly sensitive to obligate parasites were crossed in 1990. As a result of these crossings new lines NS RZL 225 and NS RZL 253 having excellent resistance but poor technological quality and other agronomical traits were developed. Newly developed RZL lines were crossed with two high yielding varieties Pesma and Pobeda widely used in production. The results of these crossing were lines NSA 3-4731 and NS 3-5255 developed in the breeding section of the Winter Wheat Program in the Research Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops and they had excellent resistance to obligate parasites, high yielding capacity and excellent technological quality.

AB  - Zlatka je vrlo prinosna, patuljasta i srednje rana sorta ozime pšenice, stvorena metodom složene hibridizacije genetički divergentnih intenzivnih sorti i linija, Lozničanka, NS 3000, NS 3014, NS 2853 i Zg-1-628/77. Kod nje su uspešno kombinovani geni odgovorni za potencijal prinosa iznad 11 t/ha, odličan tehnološki kvalitet, otpornost prema poleganju, bolestima, zimi, visokim temperaturama i vazdušnoj suši u fazi nalivanja zrna. Uspešna kombinacija gena koji kontrolišu važne agronomske osobine pokazuje da je sa sortom Zlatka stvoren značajan genotip za uslove ekonomične proizvodnje i na višem nivou intenzivnosti. AB  - U intenzifikaciji proizvodnje ozime pšenice veliki značaj pored ekoloških uslova i nivoa primenjene tehnologije imaju sorte visokog genetskog potencijala za prinos zrna sa kompleksom drugih važnih bioloških osobina. Obzirom na raznolikost klimatskih i zemljišnih uslova, naročit značaj se daje oplemenjivanju sorti velike biološke plastičnosti i adaptabilnosti. U 1994. i 1995. godini priznato je 22 novosadske sorte ozime pšenice. S obzirom na njihovu biološku plastičnost, neke od ovih sorti mogu biti značajne i za proizvodnju pšenice u Republici Srpskoj.

AB  - Ozima, vrlo rana i patuljasta sorta pšenice Prima stvorena je ukrštanjem genetički divergentnih i intenzivnih sorti i linija Tobary 66, Kavkaz, Nova Banatka, NS 3143, Rana niska i NS 3985/1 metodom sukcesivne hibridizacije. U sorti Prima uspešno su kombinovani geni odgovorni za visok genetički potencijal za prinos zrna, vrlo dobar tehnološki kvalitet, ranozrelost i otpornost prema poleganju, bolestima i niskim temperaturama. Za redukciju visine stabljike i ranozrelost korišćeni su geni Rht 2 i Ppd 1 iz Norin 10 (Tobary 66 i Rana niska) i Rht 1S iz Saitama 27 (NS 3985/1). Savezna komisija za priznavanje sorti registrovala je Primu 1995. godine.
AB  - Very early winter wheat variety Prima was released by the Federal Comission for Varietal Approval in 1995. It was developed by crossing genetically divergent and highly productive varieties Tobary 66, Kavkaz, Nova Banatka, NS.3143, Rana niska and NS.3985/1. The spike in white and smooth, compact and awnless, with 18-22 spikelets; the grain is witreous and red (Triticum aestivum L ssp. vulgare var. lutescens). Prima is a dwarf variety with the average strow height of about 73 cm, with very good resistance to lodging. It is very early variety with good resistance to winterkilling. Its resistance to leaf rust (Pucc. recondita tritici) is excellent, the resistance to stem rust (Pucc. graminis tritici) and powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis tritici) is good. Apsolute mass of 1000 grains is about 33 g, volumic mass of about 85 kg/hi. The variety is classified in the quality subgroup A2. The milling quality is excellent, the baking quality is very good to excellent. According to the indicators of technological quality Prima is classified in the II technologic group as an very good bread variety. The variety is very productive, with the genetic potential for grain yield above 11 t/ha and suitable for growing on fertile soils and intensive production conditions. Prima is a important genotype for profitable production at a high level of intensity. .
