AB - Suncokret je sve više ižložen negativnim uticajima klimatskih promena, posebno visokim
temperaturama i sušnim periodima, što neretko uzrokuje značajne varijacije i smanjenje prinosa
semena.
sprovodi svake godine multilokacijske mikro i proizvodne ogleda širom zemlje, testirajući
adaptabilnost i stabilnost novih i već raširenih hibrida suncokreta u različitim mikroklimatskim
uslovima. Tokom 2023. godine hibridi nove generacije, odnosno dva konvencionalna hibrida (NS
Kruna i NS Ronin) i dva Express (SUMO) hibrida (NS H 8002 i NS H 8005) posejani su u osam
regiona tj. okruga, kod četiri poljoprivredna proizvođača a u svakom okrugu.
hibridi u proseku ostvarili veće prinose u svim okruzima. Ovi rezultati potvrđuju da novosadski
hibridi nove generacije poseduju izuzetnu adaptabilnost, stabilnost, a pored toga i visok

AB - Climate change has a significant impact on cultivated crops, reducing yield stability and seed quality. The adaptability of sunflower to climate change plays a key role in the perspective of growing this crop in Europe. By adjusting a free agrotechnical measure such as the sunflower sowing date, farmers can increase yields. The goal of the research is to analyze and evaluate how different genotypes react to different sowing dates in conditions of a changed climate, and to identify the most favorable conditions for maximum yields of seeds, oil, quality of produced seeds and morphological characteristics. The research was conducted from 2020 to 2022 on the experimental fields of Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. The experiment consisted of three isolations in four replications with six genotypes, as a simulation of seed production of the basic seed category and the certified seed category of the first generation. All genotypes were sown on four different sowing dates with a two-week interval between dates. Analyzing the results, it can be observed that the date of sowing, the genotype and their interaction significantly affect the variation of the tested traits. It was found that the increase in seed yield is accompanied by an increase in the quality of the produced seed on all sowing dates. Through correlations, it was determined that the decrease in precipitation during the seed-filling phase affects the decrease in seed and oil yields. It was observed that high temperatures from germination to budding have a negative effect on seed yield, but increase plant height, germination energy and germination of the seeds produced. High temperatures during flowering have a negative effect on the energy of germination and germination of the seeds produced, but a positive effect on the diameter of the head. Adjusting sowing dates can be a reliable tool to respond to future climate change. Shifting the optimal sowing dates (mid-April) to a later period (early or mid-May) can reduce stressful conditions during pollination and the seed filling, resulting in higher yields and better quality seed production, which is the goal of any seed production.

AB - The introduction of sunflower hybrids into production became possible after the discovery of the CMS source in 1969. The first hybrids were put into production in Romania, Yugoslavia and France at the end of the eighties of the last century. Today, sunflowers are grown on over 28 million hectares in the world, and hybrid seeds are sown on over 85% of this area, the rest of the area is still occupied by open-pollinated varieties. The production of hybrid seeds involved certain specificities. Since the female and male parental lines often do not have the same length of vegetation, they need to be sown at different times to achieve a flowering match. This problem was largely overcome by introducing recessive branching into the male line, which extended its flowering period. The main problems in production are related to fertilization, which can lead to low seed yields. The reasons for poor fertilization lie in incompatibility, low attractiveness for pollinators and other factors. These problems are overcome by finding lines with good compatibility, changing the ratio of the number of rows, increasing the number of hives/ha, but also by using preparations based on pheromones that increase bee visits. A successful hybrid must be good and yielding in seed production too, otherwise its production is not worthwhile.

AB - One of the most important characteristics of a seed is its germination, and as a property, it is characteristic for each genotype, and for each plant species. It is influenced by a large number of different factors, starting from climatic factors, through the influence of cultivation practices and damage caused during seed production, to the influence of the method of drying, processing, treatment and storage of processed seeds. The test was carried out, in field conditions, on plots where seed production of parental components of sunflower hybrids was organized. Seed production is organized in three different locations. The observation took place over three years. The test was performed on 18 different genotypes. From the total number of observed genotypes, 10 genotypes were CMS-based lines, while the remaining 8 genotypes were restorer lines.

AB - Agriculture is one of the “victims” of climate change and one of the most severely affected sectors. It has become evident that as the climate changes, crop production strategies must change as well, including primarily adaptations through breeding and crop management. In the future, it is expected that integrative approaches that combine -omics technologies by using bioinformatic tools will facilitate the identification of target genes and markers for complex traits and facilitate crop adaptation to the changing environment. Within its activities, Twinning project CROPINNO will implement at and validate different phenotyping and multi-omics tools in breeding for improved stress resilience. Sunflower is chosen as a model crop for validation of different tools and approaches since it is considered as potential model crop for adaptation to a changing environment. Activities within CROPINNO are aimed at: i) pre-screening sunflower genotypes from IFVCNS collection using for biotic and abiotic stress resilience using different phenotyping methods; ii) study of effects of drought on sunflower plants at chromatin and transcriptional level; iii) performing whole genome SNP analysis in order to develop SNP-based markers for drought stress resilience; iv) performing integrated data analysis and comparative bioinformatics for drought responses in order to unveil possible direct correlations between stress-induced genes transcriptional variation and histone modification levels and design of networks of candidate genes for sunflower drought tolerance. Models, tools and know-how developed on sunflower will be transferred and implemented in the breeding programs of other main field crops at IFVCNS and Western Balkans region.

AB - Agricultural production especially seed production, is highly important due to the fact that 95% of food is produced from plants that reproduce with seeds. For successful seed production, it is necessary to use certified seed with high germination. Seed size is one of the components of seed quality, which has a high effect on seed germination. The aim of this research was to determine the influence of seed size, obtained during seed processing, originating from the same location, on the germination of seeds of sunflower inbred lines and to assess the influence of substrate on seed germination. The study included larger and smaller seed size fractions of nine inbred lines of sunflower on three different substrates (filter paper, sand and soil substrate). The seed material for this research was produced in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The results indicate that germination depended on the seed size, but also statistical analysis determined highly significant influence of substrate and genotype and their interaction. It was also found that larger seeds achieved a higher germination rate by 2% than smaller seeds, regardless the substrate and inbred line, and the difference was statistically significant. Therefore, it is recommended to sow larger seeds and achieve better seed germination which directly affects the number of plants per unit area.

AB - In order to select superior hybrids multilocation trials are organized to evaluate genotype, environment and genotype x environment interaction. The sites regression (SREG) model combined with biplot technique, also known as Genotype Main effects and Genotype by Environment interaction effects (GGE), is useful visual method for evaluation of both, genotype and genotype x environment interaction. In the last decade this model is widely used among researchers for evaluation of genotype performance, as well as delineation of mega-environments. The aim of this research was to evaluate interaction effects on seed yield productivity of NS (Novi Sad) sunflower hybrids grown in diverse environments in South-East Europe and to identify mega-environments. Research included eighteen NS sunflower hybrids grown across sixteen environments in three consecutive years. Test environments were located in Serbia and Romania and differ in climatic conditions as well as in soil composition. As an outcome of the study GGE biplot visualized NS-H-16, NS-H-14, NS-H-6 and NS-H-8 as hybrids with the highest average seed yield.

AB - High seed protein content and low oil content are the most important criteria when introducing high protein confectionary hybrids into the production. Testing new hybrids and detection of hybrids that maintain stability of the tested traits under different agro-ecological conditions is an important part of breeding programs. In order to evaluate the stability of seed oil and protein content in NS confectionery sunflower hybrids under different environmental conditions, fifteen confectionery sunflower hybrids developed at IFVCNS were examined during 2015, 2016 and 2017, in a trial set up as a randomized block design with three repetitions at the location of Rimski Šančevi. The REML random model was used for evaluation of the effects of hybrids, years and their interaction, while the AMMI multivariational analysis was applied to determine genotype (hybrid) x environment (year) interaction. The effect of genotypes (G), environments (E), and their interaction (GE) was compared considering their contribution to the total variance. In terms of seed oil content, the effect of G (70.63 %) played a more important role than the effects of E (19.36%) and GE (10%).

abstract = "High seed protein content and low oil content are the most important criteria when introducing high protein confectionary hybrids into the production. In terms of seed oil content, the effect of G (70.63 %) played a more important role than the effects of E (19.36%) and GE (10%).",

AB - Increasing seed yield and oil content is one of the most important goals in sunflower breeding programs. Eight sunflower restorer lines RHA-UK, RHA-ST-59, RHA-SES-IMI, RHA-SNRF, RHA-E-ANN-65, RHA-RU-3, RHA-CDN, RHA-N-M-1 were analyzed to estimate correlation values for nine agronomic traits. Relationships between seed yield and eight traits (oil and protein content, seed germination, 1000-seed weight, head diameter, number of branches and leaves and plant height) in sunflower were studied. Path analysis was used to partition the correlation values into direct and indirect effects on seed yield. Path analysis indicated highest significant direct effect of head diameter on yield (0.439**; as confirmed by the high correlation coeffi cient 0.623**). e number of branches (high correlation coeffi cient 0.552**) had a positive direct effect but not highly significant on yield (0.260*). In the study of indirect effects, thirteen significant effects were determined.

AB - The use of chemical desiccation has largely solved the problems encountered in mechanized sunflower harvesting. In addition to the earlier harvest, the benefits of this measure are the reduction of losses due to the effects of birds and diseases, due to plant lodging and seed dropout. Applying chemical desiccation in seed production results in better seed quality. In many years, desiccant Reglone has been used most widely for these purposes, but its use will no longer be allowed in most European countries. The aim of these studies was to try to find new solutions for the chemical desiccation of sunflower. Two preparations were used, Kabuki 2.5 EC, a. i. pyraflufen-ethyl, (at a dose of 1 l / ha), commonly used as a potato desiccant, and carfentrazone-ethyl, (at a dose of 0.4 l / ha), commonly used against broadleaf weeds and for cotton regrowth desiccation. Six female sunflower lines from the breeding program of the Novi Sad Institute were treated. Depending on the line, the moisture content of the grain was 19-45% at the moment of desiccation. At 7 and 14 days after desiccation, the moisture content of the grain was determined again.

AB - Five different rapeseed genotypes were tested. The following traits were considered: seed yield, seed germination, seed oil content, 1000 seed weight and seed protein content and they were used to determine whether there is significant or nonsignificant correlation. Highest average results were determined in genotype G-3 (yield 2.544 kg; germination 90%; 1000 seed weight 4,30 g; oil content 45,31% and protein content 19,83%) while G-5 (1.838 kg; 87%; 3,50 g; 44,77% and 17,28%) had the lowest average result of observed parameters. Highly significant positive correlations were found while comparing seed yield with 1000 seed weight (0.753**) and protein content (0.726**). High significant positive correlation were also determined comparing seed germination with 1000 seed weight (0.832**) and protein content (0.892**). Also high significant correlation was determined comparing 1000 seed weight and protein content (0.812**). Positive significant correlations were found by comparing seed yield and seed germination (0.644*). Path analysis indicated highest significant positive direct effect of 1000 seed weight (0.716**) and protein content (0.666**) on seed yield. High but negative significant value had seed germination (-0.645**). In the study of indirect effects on seed yield, none of significant effects were determined. The study of direct effects on oil content showed that the seed germination had high significant positive effect (- 1.296**) on oil content. Significant but hot high effect has seed yield (0.556*). In other two traits it was determined negative high significant effects (1000 seed weight – 0.797** and protein content – 0.717**) on seed oil content. The existence of indirect significant effects on oil content in four cases was determined

AB - The trial in this study was carried out in field conditions throughout three years from plots where seed production of sunflower parental lines was established. Eight genotypes were examined; namely RHA-UK, RHA-ST59, RHA-SES-IMI, RHA-SNRF, RHA-E-ANN-65, RHA-RU-3, RHA-CDN, and RHA-N-M-1. All the examined genotypes are parental components of the best sunflower hybrids developed by the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad, Serbia. Relationships between seed yield and eight different traits in sunflower were studied - oil and protein content, seed germination, 1000-seed weight, head diameter, number of branches and leaves and plant height. The same analyses were carried out for comparison of oil content. A highly significant positive correlation was determined between plant height and number of branches; plant height and the number of leaves; plant height and head diameter; plant height and seed yield; number of branches and yield; the number of leaves and yield; head diameter and seed yield; number of leaves and number of branches; number of leaves and head diameter and between seed germination and oil content. Path analysis indicated highest significant direct effect of plant height on yield (0.439**). The number of branches had a significant positive direct effect on yield (0.260*). In the study of indirect effects on yield, thirteen significant effects were determined. The study of direct effects on oil content showed that the plant height and number of leaves diameter had high significant effects (0.800** and -0.847**). The existence of indirect significant effects on oil content was determined in nine cases.
Statistički visoko značajna korelacija utvrđena je upoređivanjem sledećih parametara ispitivanja: visina biljke i broja bočnih grana; visina biljke i prinosa semena; broja bočnih grana i prinosa semena; broja listova i prinosa semena; prečnika glave i prinosa semena; broja listova i broja bočnih grana; broja listova i prečnika glave te klijavosti semena i sadržaja ulja u semenu.

AB - The aim of this study was to examine the degree of variability of traits of four inbred sunflower lines and their interdependence using correlation analysis. During 2018 and 2019, at the location of Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 4 inbred sunflower lines were multiplied: L-1 (SU), L-2 (SU), L-3 (IMI), L-4 (IMI) owned by the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. Repetitions were made in such a way that one plot cassette (ratio of rows of A-sterile analogue and B-fertile analogue in one cassette was 6:2) represented one repetition, and the number of repetitions was four. The results of a two-year study of field conditions showed statistically highly significant differences, the examined inbred sunflower lines differed in the average seed germination, 1000 seeds weight, oil content in the pure seed and seed yield. The highest coefficient of variation was achieved in seed yield (CV= 46.4 %), and the lowest with the oil content in pure seed (CV = 6.37 %). Seed germination in 2018 in the examined inbred lines was on average 8 % higher than in 2019. In the same year, inbred lines achieved a higher seed yield by an average of 196 kg ha-1. Higher weight of 1000 seeds and oil content in the pure seed on average was achieved in 2019, weight of 1000 seeds on average was higher by 7.67 g, while oil content in the pure seed was higher by 0.75 %, which was not statistically significant (p=0.063). The increase in oil content in the pure seed is accompanied by a statistically significant increase in the weight of 1000 seeds (r=0.401), but with increasing seed yield, the statistically significant decrease in oil content in the pure seed, which was the strongest negative correlation (r=-0.434).

AB - In order to assess the impact of the sowing date on the oil content and oil yield in NS sunflower hybrids, the experiment was carried out in 2020 at the locality Rimski šančevi. Three NS hybrids (NS Sanol, NS H 7749, NS Kiril) were tested. They were sown in eight sowing dates starting from March 20th with an interval of 10 days (R1 20.03., R2 01.04., R3 10.04., R4 20.04., R5 01.05., R6 10.05., R7 20.05., R8 01.06.). There were significant differences in oil content and oil yield between the examined hybrids, as well as between sowing dates. The sowing date (over 50%), had the greatest influence on the oil content and oil yield followed by the hybrid × sowing date interaction and the least influence was shown by the hybrid. All sources of variation were highly significant for both examined traits. The average oil content for all hybrids and sowing dates was 44.88%, and for oil yield 1.83 t/ha. The highest average oil content showed the hybrid NS Sanol (45.98), and the average oil yield was stated by NS Kiril (2.01 t/ha). The sowing dates R1, R2, R4 and R5 had the highest mean values for oil content. Oil yield was the highest in the two sowing dates in R4 (2.22 t/ha) and R5 (2.15 t/ha). The variability of the oil content was 1.8% and of the oil yield 12.1%.

AB - The chief subject of this brief overview is a vetch species, once distinguished asVicia calcarataDesf. and currently regarded asV. monanthaRetz. subsp.triflora(Ten.) B. L. Burtt & P. Lewis, but we prefer to distinguish this taxon at species level asVicia calcarata. It is a volunteer plant occurring regularly on ruderal sites in the local floras of the coastal and maritime areas of the Mediterranean Basin, and sporadically happens to be cultivated in fields. It has a more robust growth habit thanV. monanthasubsp.monantha, with usually three flowers per peduncle and larger seeds, rather constant morphological traits. In situ and on-farm observations onV. calcarataare scarce, relating mostly to the southern mainland of Italy and its islands, Spain, North Africa and Syria, where it is found in forests, grasslands, wheat fields, ruderal soils and along roadsides. On a global scale, there are 91 accessions ofV. calcaratain six ex situ genebank collections in Alcala de Henares, Bari, Beirut, Gatersleben, Sadovo and St. Petersburg. In a series of ex situ field trials in Novi Sad, twelve accessions ofV. calcarataproduced average yields of 6.3 t ha(-1)of forage dry matter and 1100 kg ha(-1)of seed. There are promising perspectives for developing cultivars ofV. calcarata, since the available divergence offers a solid basis for crop improvement. After a long fall, a novel rise ofV. calcaratais yet to come.

AB - Experiment was conducted in 2014, 2015 and 2016 at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad, Serbia, to study the effects of water deficit treatments during a soybean reproductive stage. Two water deficit treatments were conducted T-1 (from beginning of blossom to seed maturation) and T-2 (from beginning of seed filling to seed maturation period) and control (no water deficit). The results showed that water deficit during seed formation has a significant effect on germination energy, germination precentage and abnormal seedling. Obtained results are of great importance for farmers, because under favorable conditions, a large number of abnormal seedling has the ability to sprout, reach the reproductive stage and participate in yield formation.

AB - Fatty acid composition is the main determinant of oil quality. Genotype (G), environment (E) and interaction (G × E) determine oil fatty acid composition. Some environmental factors are climate, soil structure, and crop management (crop rotation, sowing date, crop density, etc.). This research was conducted to evaluate changes in the fatty acid composition in sunflower hybrids depending on genotype and different crop densities. Five confectionery hybrids (NS Goliat, NS Slatki, NS Gricko, Vranac, Cepko) and one for birds feeding (NSH-6485) were sown in six crop densities from 20000-70000 plants per hectare (increasing step of 10000) in a randomized complete block design with four replications. Fatty acid composition was determined by gas chromatography using the Konik HRGC 4000 system.

AB - The evaluation of genotype x environment interaction (GXE) is an important component of the selection process in multi-environment trials. The objective of this study was to analyze the GXE interaction for seed yield (SY), germination rate (GR), thousand seed weight (TSW) and protein content (PC) of 18 sunflower parental lines through the application of AMMI analysis, as well as to identify suitable sunflower parental lines with both high performance and high stability. Highly significant differences for SY, GR, TSW and PC were found for main effects (genotypes, years). For all investigated traits GXE interaction was also highly significant, suggesting a different response of genotypes across testing environments. Highest SY was shown by genotypes G12, G14 and G17. Most stable lines for seed yield were Gl, G2, G18 and G17. High stability in terms of GR showed the genotypes G3, G11 and G15, with average values higher than the general average. In the three-year experiment environment E3 was most stable for GR. Genotypes G2, G4, G5, G6 and G7 were stable for TSW. Similar average values and stability for TSW showed E2 and E3. The lines with the most stable reaction in the examined environmental conditions for PC were G7 and G10. The most stable environment for PC was E3.

The most stable environment for PC was E3.",

AB - Rapeseed is one of the major oil crops, grown in various agroecological conditions. Interest in organic rapeseed is rising, with increasing importance to breeders to determine the need for specific organic breeding programs. The objective of this study was to determine the adaptive value of rapeseed cultivars in organic farming environments. Five winter rapeseed cultivars were grown in conventional and organic plots, each with three sowing dates in four replications. The trials were organized using a randomized block design. The effect of cultivar and farming on emergence, percentage of harvested plants, yield, oil and protein content were investigated. Locally recommended agricultural practices were used to keep the fields free from weeds, insects and diseases. In organic field, weeds were removed mechanically while insects were treated using organic insecticide. The seed samples for analysis of oil and protein content were taken during harvest. Considering agricultural practices, it was found that rapeseed can be successfully grown in organic agriculture, but further improvements are needed to increase stability of production. Early sowing date provides enough time for rapeseed growth before the winter and good overwintering. The cultivars had higher oil content in the conventional farming, while there was no significant effect of farming system on protein content. For cultivar Slavica, higher yield was recorded in organic system, while cultivars Banaćanka and Nena had high yield in both farming systems. The results suggest that the existing conventional breeding material can be used as a good starting point for further trait improvements in organic farming.
