AB - Oilseed crops are widely cultivated and are related to nutrition and human health as
valuable nutraceutical sources with valuable biological properties. The growing demand for oil
plants used in human and animal nutrition or for the processing industry has contributed to the
diversification and development of a new variety of oil crops. Increased oil crop diversity, besides
ensuring reduced sensitivity to pests and climate conditions, has also led to improved nutritional
values. In order to enable oil crop cultivation to become commercially sustainable, a comprehensive
characterization of newly created varieties of oilseeds, including their nutritional and chemical
composition, is required. In this study, two varieties of safflower and white and black mustard were
investigated as alternative oil species for nutritional parameters, mainly protein, fat, carbohydrate,
moisture, ash, polyphenols, flavonoids, chlorophylls contents, acids and mineral composition, and
compared with those of two different genotypes of rapeseeds as a traditional oil crop plant. The
proximate analysis found that the highest oil content was found in the oil rape NS Svetlana genotype
(33.23%), while the lowest was in black mustard (25.37%). The protein content varies from around 26%
in safflower samples to 34.63%, determined in white mustard. High content of unsaturated fatty acids
and low content of saturated fatty acid was observed in the analyzed samples. In mineral analysis,
the dominant elements were phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium, in descending order.
The observed oil crops are also good sources of microelements, including iron, copper, manganese
and zinc, accompanied by high antioxidant activity due to the presence of significant amounts of
polyphenolic and flavonoid compounds

AB - Sunflower seeds (Helianthus annus L.) are the most represented oilseed in Serbia. During
the oil production process, the seeds are partially and/or completely dehulled. Sharma et al. (2009)
found that, in addition to the moisture content of the seed, the effect of dehulling is also significantly
influenced by seed firmness. The dehulling effect increases with decreasing seed firmness. This
paper examines the technological characteristics of sunflower seeds of selected hybrids (true density,
content of hull in seeds and mass of 1000 grains expressed on dry matter), based on which a
mathematical model for prediction of seed firmness was made. The tested samples are oily hybrids,
grown on the territory of Serbia in 2017, namely: NS Horizont, Sumo 2 OR, NS Sumo Sjaj, NS
Samuraj CLP, NS Smaragd CLP. True density, content of hull in seed, and mass of 1000 grains
expressed on dry matter were made according to Karlovi¢ and Andri¢ (1996), while seed firmness
was made using Texture Analyzer TA.HD Plus (Stable Micro Systems, Godalming, U.K.). Firmness
of the samples tested ranged from 5522.67 + 765.40 to 6889.10 + 1220.62 g, true density from 753.92 +
18.23 to 877.33 + 0.93 kg m°%, hull content of 47.54 + 0.13 to 55.15 + 0.87% and a mass of 1000 grains
expressed on dry matter of 48.83 + 0.80 to 57.10 + 2.52 g. Model validation was also performed, and
based on the statistical validation parameters, it is concluded that it is possible to predict seed
firmness based on its technological characteristics.

AB - Content of the oxidation products is very important parameter of oil quality and oxidative
stability, ie. shelf life. In order to improve shelf life of oils, the breeders create new
sunflower hybrids with altered fatty acid composition as well as the content of minor
components that contribute to oxidative stability of oil (tocopherols, sterols, phenolic
compounds, etc.).
In order to examine the oxidative stability of the oil, sunflower seed oils of the same
latest hybrids of the secondary filial (F2) generation grown on the territory of the
Republic of Serbia and Argentina were analized. Samples were tempered at 63 + 2 °C
for a period of 8 days. The content of primary and secondary oxidation products was
monitored through the peroxide (PV) and anisidine values(p-AnV, as well as the content
of conjugated dienes (CD) and trienes (CT). After the 4" and 8" day, the samples were
taken and analysed and compared with the initial samples.
Based on the content of the resulting oxidation products the best oxidative stability
showed the oil seeds NS Horizont grown on the territory of Serbia. In this sample values
of the tested parameters of oxidative stability in the initial sample were PVinitial = 1.99 +
0.06 mmol/kg, p-AnVinitiar = 0.08 + 0.01 and after 8 days of testing: PVéin day = 30.32 +
0.03 mmol/kg, p-AnVsth day = 2.05 + 0.01. The same sample grown in Argentina showed
significantly poorer results: PVinitial = 2.00 + 0.07 mmol/kg, p-AnVinitial = 1.13 + 0.00 and
PVath day = 73.45 + 4.31 mmol/kg, p-AnVath day = 3.14 + 0.01.

AB - The cold pressed sunflower oil is obtained by mechanical extraction from the seed which is pressed
with a different content of the hull. The content of the hull in the seed is conditioned by the type of
hybrid and affects the quality and yield of cold pressed oil as well as the quality of the obtained
cake. In addition to the contents of the hull, the yield of the pressing is influenced by the type of raw
material. ie the content of the oil in the material for pressing, then the preparation of the material,
the granulometric composition, residual impurities, etc. The structure and power of the presses, as
well as the pressing conditions (pressure, temperature, duration of the process, the content of the oil
in the cake, the moisture content of the raw material, etc.), also affect the effectiveness of pressing
(yield).
In this paper, the exploitation of the pressing (yield value) of the latest oil hybrids of the secondary
filial (F2) generation grown on the territory of the Republic of Serbia was examined. The yield
value in five different oil hybrids (Dusko, Orfej, NS Konstantin, NS Ronin and NS Horizont) was
calculated on the basis of the oil content of seed and cake obtained after pressing. The content of the
oil was determined according to SRPS EN ISO 659:2011, while the moisture content was made
according to SRPS EN ISO 665:2008.
The seed oil content ranged from 32.52 + 2.16 to 41.66 + 2.08 %, while the moisture content in
these seeds ranged from 5.92 + 0.04 to 6.08 + 0.08 %. In the obtained cakes the content of oil was
determined from 14.80 + 0.05 to 17.64 + 0.01 %, while in the same cakes the moisture content was
in the range of 6.92 + 0.01 to 7.84 + 0.03 %. Of the examined samples, the maximum yield value
was determined for the sample of NS Konstantin and amounted to 75.61 + 1.99 %, while the lowest
yield value of 55.37 + 4.41 % was determined for the NS Horizont sample.

AB - Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) is an important oilseeds crop among the four major
oilseeds crop cultivated in the world viz., soybean, brassica, sunflower and groundnut. Two
types of sunflower are grown viz., gil seed purpose and non- oil seed sunflower for
commercial market. Non-oilseed sunflower is known as confectionery sunflower and their
seed generally is larger than that of the oilseed types and has a lower oil percentage with
high protein and sugar content. Vegetable oils are significant sources of antioxidants in
human nutrition. Natural antioxidants present in oils have obtained substantial attention
because of their health and nutritional effects. Plants produce of antioxidant compounds
such as tocopherols and tocotrienols to prevent oxidation of the susceptible substrate.
Antioxidant properties the tocopherols content of oils can give human health benefits like
modulating cancer, cardiovascular diseases and a protective effect by lowering LDL
cholesterol by inhibiting cholesterol biosynthesis. Over the last few years, increased interest
for natural antioxidant in cold-pressed plant oils has been observed since they have better
nutritive properties in comparation to refined ones. The aim of this study was to investigate
tocopherols composition (a-, B-, y- tocopherols) in selected 10 cold-pressed sunflower oils
obtained from confectionary sunflower hybrids cultivated in Serbia (2017 harvest).
Quantification of tocopherols was carried out using high performance liquid
chromatographyon a column Nucleosil 100-5 NHz with fluorescence detection (Acx=280 nm,
hem=340 nm). The mobile phase was n-hexane/ethyl acetate (70/30, v/v) with a flow rate of
1 ml/min. Total tocopherols content in cold-pressed sunflower oils ranged from 413.13
mg/kg in NS-H-6791 hybrid to 720.99 mg/kg in NS-H-6488 hybrid. Major vitamers for those
tested hybrids was a- tocopherol. The results have shown that there were significant
differences in tocopherols composition and content among the hybrids, indicating the great
genetic potential for improvement.

AB - Catechin is a flavonoid compound with polyphenolic structure naturally occurring in plants, fruits, tea, red
wine and cacao products. Many beneficial effects are associated with catechin consumption such as
antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, antiatherogenic, antibacterial and antiviral activity.
Determination of catechin is typically based on the use of high-performance liquid chromatography, but also
methods such as spectrophotometry and capillary electrophoresis are reported.
In this work we investigated the use of different modifications of a carbon paste electrode (CPE) for
voltammetric determination of catechin. The reason for introducing a modifier into the carbon paste was to
increase the sensitivity of the voltammeircic techniques, due to the catalytic effect of the modifier on the
electrode processes. Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), antimony(Ill) oxide and bismuth
nanoparticles are investigated as bulk modifiers for preparation of CPE with concentration of 5% (w/w).
Electroanalytical measurements are performed in 0.1 M phosphate buffer pH 7.0 using cyclic voltammetry
and square wave voltammetry, in the concentration range from 1 to 20 mg/dm* of catechin.
Two oxidation peaks of catechin are observed for all studied modified CPEs and bare CPE, with significantly
higher intensity of the first peak. The results also showed improvement of sensitivity by using the modified
CPEs in comparison to unmodified CPE. The application of MWCNTs as a modifier contributed to the
highest sensitivity for catechin determination in relation to the other modifiers. These preliminary results
show that MWCNTs modified CPE can be used as a very sensitive sensor for catechin determination in real
samples.

AB - Blending vegetable oils of different composition and properties is one of the simplest methods for
creating new specific products with the desired properties, which increases their commercial
application and improves their nutritional quality.
The effect of blending vegetable oils on tocopherols and carotenoids content was examined. Refined
sunflower seed oil (S) and cold pressed flaxseed oil (F) were used in the experiment. These oils are
blended in three different content of mass: sample 70S:30F (70% S and 30% F), sample 50S:50F
(50% S and 50% F) and sample 30S:70F (30% S and 70% F).
The results showed significant differences in the content of total tocopherols and total carotenoids
between the two oils used for the preparation of three blended oils. Refined sunflower seed oil
contains higher amounts of tocopherols and fewer amounts of carotenoids compared to cold pressed
flaxseed oil in which the content of tocopherols is lower and the content of carotenoids is higher. In the
obtained blends of edible vegetable oils, the content of total tocopherols ranged from 387.96 to 447.83
mg/kg while the determined total carotenoids content (as B-caroten) ranged from 3.11 to 5.63 mg/kg.
By blending refined oil of sunflower seed and cold pressed oil of flax-seed, the balance of the
parameters studied is contributed. The research in the work showed that the blending of vegetable oils
provides the possibility of modulating their composition, and therefore of nutritive quality.

in the amount of the resulting primary and secondary oxidation products of unsaturated fatty
acids. In order to improve oxidative stability, i.e. oil shelf life, sunflower hybrids with altered
fatty acid composition have been created, i.e. significantly higher oleic acid (C18:1) content,
even over 90% w/w, relative to the linoleic type with 25-30% w/w of oleic and 60-65% w/w
of linoleic acid (C18:2). In order to examine the oxidative stability of the oil, three samples of
sunflower seed oil NS hybrids (NS Oliva, NS Horizont and NS Romeo) of different fatty acid
composition were analyzed. Samples were exposed to moderate temperatures (6342°C) over a
period of 8 days. Changes in the content of primary and secondary oxidation products based
on changes in peroxide (PV) and anisidine (p-AnV) values, as well as changes in the content
of conjugated dienes and trienes, were observed. The highest oxidative stability was observed
in the oleic type oil sample. In this sample the determined values of the tested parameters of
oxidative stability, after 8 days, were PV=4.85 mmol/kg and p-AnV=0.65, compared to the
initial sample (PV=0.36 mmol/kg and p-AnV=0.57). The greatest oxidative changes occurred
in the oil sample with the lowest content of oleic and the highest content of linoleic acid, as
indicated by the PV=73.22 mmol/kg and p-AnV=3.60, after 8 days, in relation to PV=2.16
mmol/kg and p-AnV=0.50 in the initial linoleic type oil sample.

AB - Novel electroanalytical procedures are developed for determination of different pesticides content in commercial
pesticide formulations using chronopotentiometry. As a working electrode glassy carbon electrode and thin film
mercury electrode are used for determination of insecticide imidacloprid and herbicides metamitron and metribuzin.
For all determined pesticides one reduction peak is obtained, as a result of irreversible reduction of the analyte on the
working electrode. Quantification of pesticides in commercial formulations is performed after optimization and
validation of the chronopotentiometric method. Samples of commercial pesticide formulations are primarily dissolved
in doubly distilled water, acetonitrile and ethanol for imidacloprid, metamitron and metribuzin, respectively.
Ultrasound treatment in duration of 2 min is used to support dissolution. The final dilution is performed in the BrittonRobinson buffer of optimal pH value. Quantitative determination of the pesticide is performed using the calibration
curve method, while every sample is analyzed in triplicate. Obtained average recovery and RSD value for 13 samples
of commercial pesticide formulations is 100.22% and 0.01%, indicating on the accuracy and precision of the
chronopotentiometric method.

AB - Sunflower seed cake is remaining after isolation of oil from sunflower seeds and practically
represents a waste from production of cold pressed sunflower oils. This waste product is
consider as a viable potential source of various natural compounds and can be exploited for
the production of new products and isolation of valuable substances such as biologically
active compounds and nutraceuticals. In addition, isolation of biologically active substances
from food waste represents the way for recycling and may be economically attractive as well.
Flavonoids represent a group of polyphenol compounds with a high antioxidant power. These
phytochemicals are known to reduce many chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases,
heart diseases, diabetes, obesity and certain cancer [1]. In this work we investigated the
flavonoids content in seven sunflower seed cakes coming from cold pressed oil production.
Flavonoids are extracted by using 80% ethanol and ultrasound-assisted extraction at 30°C for
10 minutes. Total flavonoid content is determined by a colorimetric method [2]. The results
showed that sunflower seed cakes contained significant amounts of total flavonoids. The total
flavonoids content is found to be in the range from 12.3 to 24.6 mg of catechin equivalent/g.
The results proved that sunflower seed cakes obtained from cold pressed oil production
represent valuable by-product and can be used as a raw material for isolation of bioactive
flavonoids which could be further applied for development of various functional foods.

AB - Electrochemical detection of various contaminants has been widely used as a powerful tool in quality
control of food and analysis of environmental samples. In this work, electrochemical procedures for
determination of pesticides imidacloprid, metribuzin and metamitron are presented. Thin film layer
electrode is used as a working electrode, while chronopotentiometry is applied as an electroanalytical
technique. For all analysed pesticides, several solution conditions and instrumental parameters
influencing the electroanalytical response of the analytes are examined and optimised in respect to the
height of the analytical signals. The obtained analytical signals for the investigated pesticides are the
result of irreversible reduction of the analyte on the working electrode surface, and for each analyte
one reduction wave is obtained. Under the optimal experimental conditions, proposed
chronopotentiometric methods are validated with the respect to linearity, limit of detection, limit of
quantification, precision, selectivity, recovery and accuracy. Validated chronopotentiometric methods
are applied for analysis of selected pesticides in spiked tap and river water samples. In the analysis of
real samples, proposed methods showed to be sensitive and reproducible, fast (1-5 s analysis time),
and simple since no complicated sample preparation is needed, and therefore are suitable for routine
analysis of pesticides in water samples.

AB - Rimsulfuron, prosulfuron and oxasulfuron are a group of sulfonylurea herbicides that have
been widely used for controlling weeds in a variety of vegetables and other crops. Because of
the high herbicidal activity of this sulfonylureas, they are beneficial at low application rates
which are approximately 1000 times less than other of convencional herbicides. Hence the
using of this herbicides is increasing constantly worldwide.
The fate of rimsulfuron, prosulfuron and oxasulfuron in soil type Calcic Chernozem Clayic.
Pachic (according to the FAO-WRB classification) were investigated using ultra-performance
liquid chromatography with diode array detection for herbicide detection. Their dissipation
behaviour in soil were evaluated under laboratory incubated condition at 70% water holding
capacity of soil and two temperature (25°C and 30°C) were maintained in termostat. In order
to investigate dissipation selected sulfonylureas were used as aqueous solution of commercial
formulation herbicides. The recommended dosage of rimsulfuron, prosulfuron and
oxasulfuron were 50, 20 and 80 g active ingredient (a.i.) per hectare, respectively.
Representative soil samples were collected after 2 hours, and then after 2, 6, 15, 30 and 50
days after the application of herbicides. Initial residues of all investigated herbicides were
higher at temperature 25°C than 30°C. The residues of rimsulfuron on both analysed
temperature for tested dose were less than LOQ (3.04 ug kg!) after 2 days and 6 days for
prosulfuron (2.97 yg kg!) and oxasulfuron (3.40 pg kg). The dissipation of this three
sulfonylureas in studied soil was described by using the Mittag-Leffler function ¢ E, (-bt).
Model coefficients a, b, c were received from the experimental data by using a fitting
procedure. Rimsulfuron and prosulfuron showed faster degradation in tested soil with half
lives of 0.49 and 0.03 days at temperature 30°C, respectively. The degradation rate of
oxasulfuron appeared something slower with half lives of 0.64 day at temperature 25°C.
These results indicate how herbicides belonging to the identical chemical class can behave in
various way concerning dissipation in soil.

AB - The most important experimental parameters were investigated for chronopotentiometric
determination of imidacloprid using thin film antimony electrode as a working electrode. The
film of antimony was ex-sifu plated on the glassy carbon electrode. Britton-Robinson buffer
pH 10 was used as an optimal supporting electrolyte, where imidacloprid provided a well
define and reproductive reduction signal at the potential of -1100 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl, 3.5
mol/dm’* KCI). Based on the height and reproducibility of the analytical signal, initial potential
of -0.51 V was accepted as optimal, while selected optimal ranges of reduction current were
from -5 pA to -14.4 pA, and from -4.6 pA to -18.2 pA, for concentrations of 2 mg/dm” and 10
mg/dm°*, respectively. It was determined that analytical signal of imidacloprid decreased
exponentially with more negative values of reduction current. Before application of this
method to environmental samples. additional experiments related to method validation are
necessary.
