dc.description.abstractThe genus Pisum L. is a member of the family Fabaceae Lindl. and the tribe Vicieae along with the genera Lathyrus L., Lens Mill., Vavilovia A. Fedorov and Vicia L. According to today’s most widely accepted classification (Davies, 1970) and its various updates based on significant evidence, the genus Pisum L. comprises three species: P. sativum L., P. abyssinicum A. Br. and P. fulvum Sibth. & Sm. The sativum species includes two subspecies sativum and elatius (Bieb) Aschers. & Graebn.. The former subspecies, in turn, includes two varieties - sativum and arvense (L) Poiret, while the latter has three - elatius, brevipedunculatum Davies & Meikle and pumilio Meikle (syn. P. humile Boiss. & Noë). According to the classification of the European Association for Grain Legume Research (AEP), the only economically important pea species P. sativum L. is divided into a number of production groups depending on its use, flower color and grain shape and color.en

Danas najprihvaćenija klasifikacija (Davies, 1970), uz dopune zasnovane na većem broju dokaza, deli rod Pisum L. na tri vrste, P. sativum L., P. abyssinicum A. Br. i P. fulvum Sibth. & Sm. Vrsta sativum obuhvata dve podvrste, sativum i elatius (Bieb) Aschers. & Graebn., od kojih su u okviru prve opisana dva varijeteta, sativum i arvense (L) Poiret, a u drugoj tri, elatius brevipedunculatum Davies & Meikle i pumilio Meikle (syn. P. humile Boiss. & Noë). U skladu sa klasifikacijom Evropskog udruženja za zrnene mahunarke (AEP), jedina vrsta od ekonomskog značaja, P. sativum L., deli se na veći broj proizvodnih grupa zavisno od dela biljke koji se koristi, načina upotrebe, boje cveta i oblika i boje zrna.sr
