AB - Lagenaria siceraria, commonly known as bottle gourd, stands as a versatile member within the Cucurbitaceae family, offering global economic significance and rich cultural history. This comprehensive review explores diverse dimensions of L. siceraria, spanning its botanical characteristics, historical cultivation, and manifold uses across ornamental, culinary, medicinal, and agricultural domains. The historical cultivation segment traces the origins and distribution of L. siceraria, underlining its early domestication and global dispersion. The ornamental section uncovers artistic and cultural dimensions, while the culinary exploration spans traditional recipes in tropical regions to the resurgence of bottle gourd in contemporary European cuisine. The agricultural application as a rootstock is traced from ancient practices to its modern resurgence, contributing to improved tolerance and yield. The cultivation section offers insights into optimal growth conditions, planting practices, and various factors influencing productivity. In addition, the manuscript delves into the genetic diversity of L. siceraria, and the phytochemical composition at various ripening stages is undertaken, emphasizing the impact on fruit characteristics. Furthermore, this work reviews the isolation methods for extracting key compounds from L. siceraria, evaluating the efficiency of different solvents and procedures. The pharmacological activities of the isolated compounds take center stage, with a specific focus on antimicrobial and antidiabetic properties. The review extends its exploration to potential clinical effectiveness and elucidates possible side effects associated with the consumption of bottle gourd juice, providing essential guidelines for safe utilization. In conclusion, this comprehensive review integrates the botanical, agricultural, and medicinal aspects of L. siceraria, offering a thorough understanding of its significance and potential applications across various domains.

AB - One-year experiments conducted with one hemp variety were established to determinate the cultivation practices (growth density and pinching) which could be used to optimize the technological process of hemp varieties production for different purposes. The results showed that reduced crop density and pinching result in development of shorter plants. In denser non-pinched crops, the stem is over 180 cm high, while the plants start branching in the upper 1/4-1/5 part. In the non-pinched treatment with a larger area available for individual plants, as well as in the pinched treatments, more productive branches of less thickness develop in the lower parts. The non-pinched treatments generally produce higher stem and fiber yields, which increase when crop density is reduced. The obtained results can serve as a basis for determining certain treatments during the evaluation of production technology for different varieties of hemp intended for specific purposes.

AB - In order to define the most optimal technique for field trials that would allow broader exploration of the interaction of G x E x M (G - genotype, E - environmental conditions, M - crop management) in hemp seed production, one-year trials were set up with the typically dioecious hemp variety Marina. The trials included three different crop densities (20, 150, and 300 plants m2?) and the control unpinched variant which was compared with the apical bud removal treatment (pinching) at a plant height of 60 cm. The results showed that with pinching in all crop densities, a decrease in plant height and an increase in seed yield are achieved. The highest seed yields of over 1200 kg ha were achieved in the pinched crop with 20 and 150 plants m 2, which can be considered the optimal method for determining the yield potential of the genotype. The obtained results of the preliminary research will serve as a basis for recommendations for commercial hemp seeds production, as well as for defining the method for testing the wider germplasm in the hemp breeding programs.
