U ovom radu pokušali smo da prikažemo proces testiranja, kroz ostvarene rezultate hibrida kukuruza NS 4006. U pretkomisijskim ogledima 2017. godine NS 4006 je na 9 lokacija ostvario 106,3% prinosa zrna od proseka standarda, sa procentom pobeda 67% u odnosu na bolji standard. U komisijskim ogledima u 2018. i 2019. godini na ukupno 15 lokacija hibrid je postigao 104,6% prinosa zrna u odnosu na prosek standarda, uz proce nat pobeda od 73% u odnosu na bolji standard.
AB  - During the process of identifying a promising hybrid combination, variety registration and and selection the best registed hybrids for seed production, one hybrid combination undergoes a number of trials at different locations and in different growing years. In this paper, we tried to show the testing process, through the achieved results of the maize hybrid NS 4006. AB  - In early stages of maize breeding program, large number of new genotypes is grown in a set of field trial locations. The best ones are identified to move to the next stage so that in the final stages of breeding program small number of superior hybrids is grown in pre-registration and post-registration field trials across set of locations. Field trials were conducted in a partially replicated design, each genotype with two replications per location at six locations in 2020. The experiments included 150 hybrids obtained by crossing different S2 progenies with an elite inbred tester. These field trials were conducted to identify the best performing genotypes using appropriate statistical model. The factor analytic (FA) model accommodates the heterogeneity of genetic variance for locations and heterogeneity of genetic covariance between pairs of locations.

Assessment of quality and viability of primed maize seed

AB  - Good crop establishment is essential for achieving high yield and constraints to good establishment include untimely sowing and low seed quality combined with various adverse growing conditions after sowing. Seed priming is a pre-sowing technique used for the improvement of germination, reduction of the time from sowing to emergence and improvement of emergence uniformity. Various seed priming techniques, such as hydropriming and priming with zinc, are used nowadays to improve crop establishment. The importance of seed priming with zinc for better germination, improved stand establishment, and higher maize yield are well documented. However, there is still a lack of results on the effects of seed priming with water and zinc on seed quality and viability, given that maize seed can be kept in storage for many years without a significant reduction in germination. The study was aimed to evaluate the effects of seed priming with water and Zn on the quality and viability of the maize seed. In order to evaluate the response of four maize hybrids to priming with water (hydropriming) and 4 mM zinc sulphate, primed seeds were subjected to laboratory tests, namely to the germination test, the cold test, and the accelerated aging test. Both priming treatments increased the seed quality, but the beneficial effect of Zn-priming maintained to a larger extent than hydropriming in cold-treated and aged seeds. The negative effects of hydropriming on the viability o f the aged seed of hybrid NS 4023 imply a possible limitation to deferred sowing of primed maize seed.
AB  - U današnje vreme, različite tehnike prajminga semena, kao što su hidroprajming i prajming semena cinkom, koriste se u cilju poboljšanja useva. Značaj tehnika prajminga u postizanju bolje klijavosti semena, poboljšanju useva i postizanju visokog prinosa kukuruza dobro je dokumentovana. Međutim, još uvek nedostaju rezultati o uticaju prajminga semena vodom i cinkom na kvalitet i životnu sposobnost semena, s obzirom da se seme kukuruza može čuvati u skladištu duži niz godina bez značajnog smanjenja klijavosti. Ovo istraživanje je sprovedeno sa ciljem da se ispita uticaj prajminga semena vodom i cinkom na kvalitet i životnu sposobnost semena kukuruza. Za procenu odgovora četiri hibrida kukuruza na prajming semena vodom i 4mM rastvorom cink-sulfata, seme je nakon prajminga podvrgnuto laboratorijskim testovima, testu klijavosti, hladnom testu i testu ubrzanog starenja. Oba tretmana prajminga semena su uticala na povećanje kvaliteta semena kukuruza, ali blagotvorni efekat prajminga semena cinkom se ispoljio u većem stepenu od hidroprajminga u stresnim uslovima hladnog testa i testa ubrzanog starenja. Negativni efekti hidroprajminga na životnu sposobnost semena hibrida NS 4023 ukazuju na moguće ograničenje za odloženu setvu semena kukuruza nakon prajminga.

AB  - Prema podacima Republičkog zavoda za statistiku, kukuruz je u 2019. godini bio
zasejan na približno 940.000 hektara, što je za 4% više u odnosu na prethodnu godinu.
Sa prosečnom godišnjom proizvodnjom zrna od oko 6 miliona tona, pored zadovoljenja
domaćih potreba (ishrana stoke, industrijska prerada), ova ratarska kultura predstavlja
veoma značajan izvozni proizvod naše zemlje. Na ukupnu količinu proizvedenog zrna,
pored površine koja je uglavnom konstantna, u našim agroekološkim uslovima najveći
uticaj imaju klimatski činioci, pre svega količina i raspored padavina i temperatura
vazduha. Klimatski činioci u 2019. godini uglavnom su pogodovali usevima kukuruza,
međutim, rekordni prinosi su ipak izostali. U ovom radu iznosimo detaljniju analizu
najznačajnijih klimatskih činilaca i postignute rezultate NS hibrida u protekloj sezoni

AB  - Since maize is grown in climatically diverse regions and under different production conditions, the aim of our study was to investigate the effect of two common stress factors (drought and salinity), on seed germination, as well as on seedling root and shoot length of maize hybrids. The experiments were conducted in 2015, in the Laboratory for Seed Testing of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops from Novi Sad, Serbia, on seven maize hybrids from different maturity groups (from FAO 300 to FAO 700). For simulation of drought conditions we have used polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000 (control and concentration of 1, 10, 16 and 23%). For study of salt stress, NaCl in concentration of 0.02, 0.07, 0.12, 0.17, 0.20 and 0.22 M has been used. The data obtained were processed by ANOVA. Duncan's Multiple Range Test was used to measure statistical differences between treatment methods and the control. In drought stress study, germination percentage started to decrease at the 0.1 MPa. Root and seedling length were less affected by PEG treatment. In salt stress study, a significant drop in germination was observed at the concentration of 0.20 M of NaCl.

The experiments were conducted in 2015, in the Laboratory for Seed Testing of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops from Novi Sad, Serbia, on seven maize hybrids from different maturity groups (from FAO 300 to FAO 700). For simulation of drought conditions we have used polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000 (control and concentration of 1, 10, 16 and 23%). For study of salt stress, NaCl in concentration of 0.02, 0.07, 0.12, 0.17, 0.20 and 0.22 M has been used. The data obtained were processed by ANOVA. Duncan's Multiple Range Test was used to measure statistical differences between treatment methods and the control. In drought stress study, germination percentage started to decrease at the 0.1 MPa. Root and seedling length were less affected by PEG treatment. In salt stress study, a significant drop in germination was observed at the concentration of 0.20 M of NaCl.",

Prema istom izvoru, naša zemlja je svrstana u grupu od 15 država koje su ostvarile najveći prihod od izvoza ovog proizvoda u 2017. godini. Da je kukuruz naša najznačajnija ratarska kultura govore i površine na kojima se gaji u Srbiji (od 900.000 do 1.000.000 ha svake godine) kao i prosečna proizvodnja od oko 6 miliona tona zrna godišnje. Na ukupnu količinu proizvedenog zrna, pored površine koja je uglavnom konstantna, najveći uticaj imaju klimatski činioci, pre svega količina i raspored padavina i temperatura vazduha.

Genomic prediction in maize breeding

AB  - In recent years the availability of cheap genome-wide markers resulted in a novel approach in maize breeding called genomic prediction (GP). Genomic prediction is a special form of marker assisted breeding, in which genetic markers covering the whole genome are used for estimation genomic breeding value of individuals under selection. Genomic estimated breeding value (GEBV) of an individual represents the sum of effects associated with all the marker alleles present in an individual and included in the GP model applied to the population under selection. The GP is based on training (TP) and breeding (BP) populations. The TP is used for training of the GP model and for estimation of the marker effects required for estimation of GEBV of the individuals in the BP. The BP is the population subjected to GP for identification of the superior lines for use as parents for new hybrid combinations. In real maize breeding programs, successful implementation of the GP is based on data from multi-environment trials. Thus, appropriate modeling and statistical approaches are required to deal with the complexity of the multi-environment grain yield data coupled with genomic and environmental data to speed-up maize breeding.
