Abstract
The extraction of oil from oilseed rape seeds leaves behind the so-called meal, which has about 40% crude protein and is used as animal feed. A trial with oilseed rape lasting from 1998 till 2000 was established at the Rimski Šančevi Experiment Field of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. The highest average seed yield per plant (11,5 g) and the highest protein content (21,9 %) was observed in Novi Sad cultivar Sremica, meaning that the extraction of oil from its seed can leave behind the highest yield of protein-enriched meal. After their plant height, number of lateral branches, leaf number and stem thickness it was concluded that Banaćanka Sremica, Falcon, Duna and Casino have high potential for green forage yield and that they can be utilized for direct cattle feeding as a fresh forage as well as a gene donors in breeding for higher forage yield.
