Cercospora leaf spot is the most important disease of sugar beet in Serbia. In 2014 an extremely favourable climate conditions have caused to come to a strong infection with the pathogen causing regrowth of new leaves. In such conditions, expression of different levels of resistance of sugar beet varieties was evaluated. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between the level of resistance to cercospora and yield and root quality of sugar beet varieties. The results showed a high correlation of resistance to cercospora and sugar content, while between resistance to cercospora and root yield there was no correlation. On the basis of this study we can conclude that in the agroecological conditions of Serbia, preference should be given to sugar beet varieties more tolerant to the fungus Cercospora beticola Sacc.
