Effect of seed treatments with neonicotinoids on maize inbred lines seed quality

AB  - The importance of uniform germination and field emergence for achieving high yields, while ensuring good seed quality, raises the question of the influence of fungicide and insecticide preparations for seed treatment. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the combination of five insecticides and fungicide preparations on germination energy and germination of four maize inbred lines. The impact of applied preparations on seed quality may vary, depending on the genetic composition of maize inbred lines. Inbred line L-1 was distinguished as the most tolerant, considering the fact that significant differences were not observed in all tested preparations, while the most sensitive genotype, inbred line L-4, showed a significant decrease in germination energy and seed germination when treated with fludioxonil+metalaxyl-M (M), fludioxonil+metalaxyl-M and imidacloprid (M+G), fludioxonil+metalaxyl-M and thiametoxam (M+Cr) and fludioxonil+metalaxyl-M and tefluthrin+thiametoxam (M+FZ). Results of this study indicate the importance of choosing the best combination of pesticides for certain genotypes, in order to ensure full protection of crops and at the same time obtain the high yields.
AB  - S obzirom da je ujednačeno klijanje i nicanje u polju od velike važnosti za postizanje visokih prinosa uz obezbeđenje dobrog kvaliteta semena, postavlja se pitanje uticaja fungicidnih i insekticidnih preparata za tretiranje semena na kvalitet semena. Cilj istraživanja je bio da se utvrdi efekat primene kombinacija pet insekticidnih i jednog fungicidnog preparata na energiju klijanja i klijavost semena četiri inbred linije kukuruza. Primenjeni preparati su različito uticali na kvalitet semena u zavisnosti od genetske kompozicije inbred linija kukuruza. Inbred linija L-1 se izdvaja kao najtolerantnija, s obzirom da nisu zabeležena značajna odstupanja u pogledu kvaliteta semena kod svih primenjenih preparata u poređenju sa kontrolom, dok je kod najosetljivijeg genotipa, inbred linije L-4, zabeleženo značajno smanjenje energije klijanja i klijavosti semena tretiranog preparatima na bazi aktivne materije fludioksonil+metalaksil-M (M), fludioksonil+metalaksil-M i imidakloprid (M+G), fludioksonil+metalaksil-M i tiametoksam (M+Cr) i fludioksonil+metalaksil-M teflutrin+tiametoksam (M+FZ). Rezultati ovog istraživanja ukazuju na važnost odabira najbolje kombinacije pesticida za određene genotipove, kako bi se obezbedila potpuna zaštita useva, a istovremeno se postigli visoki prinosi.

NS maize hybrids: Today and tomorrow

AB  - Maize breeding on scientific basis began at the onset of 20th century. Maize breeding at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops began in 1938. Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops has created 218 maize hybrids, 80 of which have been registered in foreign countries and 13 are on the EU list. Genetic variability in maize is enough for future progress in maize breeding. Hybrid NS 640 is the most wide-spread hybrid in Serbia. The highest yield so far of 18,640 kg ha-1 was gained with NS 6010. This is our recommendation for 2010: early FAO 300: NS 300 and NS 3014. FAO 400: NS 4015 and NS 444 ultra. FAO 500: NS 5043, NS 5010, NS 510, NS 540 and NS 542. FAO 600: NS 6010, NS 6030, NS 640, Zenit, Radan and NS 6102. FAO 700: Tisa, NS 7020 and NS 770. New NS maize hybrids are recommended for the first time for large production. They are a new generation of NS maize hybrids: NS 4030, NS 5020, NS 5032, NS 640 Ultra, NS 6040, NS 6060 and NS 6043. Their seeds will be distributed by NS representatives.
AB  - Oplemenjivanje kukuruza u Institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo u Novom Sadu ima dugu tradiciju. Do sada je u Institutu stvoreno 218 hibrida, od čega je u inostranstvu priznato 80 NS hibrida, a na evropskoj listi se nalazi 13 NS hibrida kukuruza. NS 640 je ubedljivo najzastupljeniji hibrid kukuruza u Srbiji. Najveći do sada dobijen prinos sa NS hibridima kukuruza od 18.640 kg ha-1 2005. dao je NS 6010. AB  - In this paper we investigated grain yield and yield stability of NS maize hybrids of different FAO maturity groups. Fifteen hybrids were grown in strip trials without replications at 29 locations in Serbia. Although weather conditions were not favorable for maize, especially in the dry areas, the average grain yield was fairly high (8.09 tha-1). High grain mean values and above-average stability of grain yield were found in the hybrids NS 6030, NS 6010, and NS 4015.
AB  - NS hibridi kukuruza (15 hibrida) su u 2008. godini ispitivani u makrogledima na 29 lokacija u svim rejonima gajenja kukuruza u Srbiji. Prirodni uslovi za proizvodnju nisu bili naklonjeni proizvodnji kukuruza, naročito u tradicionalno sušnim rejonima. Pored toga, hibridi NS 6030, NS 6010, NS 4015 su pokazali visok prinos i dobru stabilnost prinosa u svim rejonima gajenja kukuruza u Srbiji.

AB  - Commercial NS maize hybrids were evaluated in all the major maize-growing areas of Serbia in 2007 under common cultivation practices. The growing conditions in the country were unfavorable for maize, mostly because of a lack of water during vegetation. Even in such poor conditions, NS maize hybrids exhibited wide adaptability and a high yield potential. The hybrids Zenit, NS 640, Tisa and NS 7016 proved stable in regard to regression coefficient (around 1.0) and were very productive (high yields accross the locations). Early and medium early hybrids from FAO maturity groups 300 to 500 (such as NS 3014, NS 4015, and NS 540) are recommended for the droughty areas of western, eastern and southern Serbia. NS 6010 and NS 640 were among the most productive hybrids in the country. Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad has so far registered more than 200 maize hybrids. Thirteen of these were released in 2007, all yellow dent with the standard quality of grain. In the category of medium early hybrids (FAO maturity group 500), the new hybrids are NS 5022 and 5025, whereas in FAO maturity group 600 the newest additions are NS 6031, NS 6041, NS 6025, NS 6022, NS 6043, NS 6053 and NS 6060. Four late hybrids have been released as well, namely NS 7043, NS 7040, NS 8033 and NS 8043.
AB  - Komercijalni NS hibridi kukuruza su u 2007. godini ispitivani u ogledima u proizvodnim uslovima u svim glavnim rejonima gajenja kukuruza u Srbiji. Prošla godina nije bila povoljna godina za razvoj kukuruza. Suša je u pojedinim rejonima imala karakter elementarne nepogode. Čak i u tako nepovoljnoj godini NS hibridi kukuruza su pokazali visok proizvodni potencijal. U rejonima u kojima se suša javlja svake godine (severna Bačka, severni i centralni Banat, istočna i južna Srbija) NS hibridi su pokazali široku adaptabilnost, a u najproduktivnijim rejonima (zapadna i južna Bačka i donji Srem) u uslovima bez navodnjavanja ostvarili su i prošle godine 15 i više tona suvog zrna po hektaru. U prošloj godini je priznato 13 novih NS hibrida kukuruza i to dva u FAO 500 grupi zrenja: NS 5022 i 5025, sedam u FAO 600 grupi zrenja: NS 6031, NS 6041, NS 6025, NS 6022, NS 6043, NS 6053 i NS 6060, dva u FAO 700: NS 7043 i NS 7040 i dva u FAO 800 grupi zrenja: NS 8033 i NS 8043.

abstract = "Commercial NS maize hybrids were evaluated in all the major maize-growing areas of Serbia in 2007 under common cultivation practices. The growing conditions in the country were unfavorable for maize, mostly because of a lack of water during vegetation. Even in such poor conditions, NS maize hybrids exhibited wide adaptability and a high yield potential. The hybrids Zenit, NS 640, Tisa and NS 7016 proved stable in regard to regression coefficient (around 1.0) and were very productive (high yields accross the locations). Early and medium early hybrids from FAO maturity groups 300 to 500 (such as NS 3014, NS 4015, and NS 540) are recommended for the droughty areas of western, eastern and southern Serbia. NS 6010 and NS 640 were among the most productive hybrids in the country. Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad has so far registered more than 200 maize hybrids. Thirteen of these were released in 2007, all yellow dent with the standard quality of grain. In the category of medium early hybrids (FAO maturity group 500), the new hybrids are NS 5022 and 5025, whereas in FAO maturity group 600 the newest additions are NS 6031, NS 6041, NS 6025, NS 6022, NS 6043, NS 6053 and NS 6060. Four late hybrids have been released as well, namely NS 7043, NS 7040, NS 8033 and NS 8043., Komercijalni NS hibridi kukuruza su u 2007. godini ispitivani u ogledima u proizvodnim uslovima u svim glavnim rejonima gajenja kukuruza u Srbiji. Prošla godina nije bila povoljna godina za razvoj kukuruza. Suša je u pojedinim rejonima imala karakter elementarne nepogode. Čak i u tako nepovoljnoj godini NS hibridi kukuruza su pokazali visok proizvodni potencijal. U rejonima u kojima se suša javlja svake godine (severna Bačka, severni i centralni Banat, istočna i južna Srbija) NS hibridi su pokazali široku adaptabilnost, a u najproduktivnijim rejonima (zapadna i južna Bačka i donji Srem) u uslovima bez navodnjavanja ostvarili su i prošle godine 15 i više tona suvog zrna po hektaru. U prošloj godini je priznato 13 novih NS hibrida kukuruza i to dva u FAO 500 grupi zrenja: NS 5022 i 5025, sedam u FAO 600 grupi zrenja: NS 6031, NS 6041, NS 6025, NS 6022, NS 6043, NS 6053 i NS 6060, dva u FAO 700: NS 7043 i NS 7040 i dva u FAO 800 grupi zrenja: NS 8033 i NS 8043.",

We analyzed some specific location-hybrid relationships for grain yield of NS maize hybrids, representing different maturity groups. We used the results of the post-official trials of NS hybrids evaluated at five location in 2007 (Rimski Šančevi, Pančevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Sombor and Srbobran). The locations showed quite different yielding potentials (from 7.1 t/ha to 11.4 t/ha at locations Sombor and Rimski Šančevi, respectively). Two locations, Rimski Šančevi and Pančevo, showed the highest proportion of hybrids that performed similarly in both dry season (2007) and under moderate climatic conditions (2006).
AB  - U Srbiji je u 2007. godini proizvedeno blizu 50% manje kukuruza u odnosu na višegodišnji prosek. Glavni razlog smanjenja prinosa je stres izazvan sušom i visokim temperaturama u fazi cvetanja biljaka i nalivanja zrna. U radu je analizirana međuzavisnost lokalitet-hibrid za prinos zrna NS hibrida kukuruza različite dužine vegetacije. Korišćeni su rezultati postkomisijskih ogleda sa pet različitih lokaliteta u 2007. godini (Rimski Šančevi, Pančevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Sombor i Srbobran). Najveći prosečan prinos ostvaren na Rimskim Šančevima (11,4 t/ha), bio je za 4,3 t/ha veći od proseka najmanje produktivnog lokaliteta - Sombor, sa 7,1 t/ha. Lokaliteti Rimski Šančevi i Pančevo istovremeno pokazuju najveći stepen podudarnosti u favorizovanju zajedničkih (istih) hibrida u sušnoj (2007) i prosečno rodnoj (2006) godini.

AB  - Regions for maize production in Serbia are quite different on the basis of amount and distribution of rainfall across vegetation. The first region (West Bačka, South Bačka, East Srem, South Srem and Podrinjsko-kolubarski), and second region (South Banat and Šumadijsko-pomoravski) are more favourable for maize production then regions four (North Bačka, North Srem, East Banat) and five (North Banat and East, South Serbia). Medium late hybrids of FAO 600-700 over yielded medium early hybrids of FAO 300-500 in all regions. The most productive hybrid in 2004 was NS6010.
AB  - U 2004. godini je nastavljena višegodišnja praksa ispitivanja NS hibrida kukuruza u ogledima, koji su po načinu izvođenja i primenjenoj tehnologiji proizvodnje najsličniji širokoj proizvodnoj praksi. Odabrano je 19 hibrida kukuruza, različite dužine vegetacije (FAO 100 do FAO 800), čija su agronomska svojstva ispitivana na 21 lokalitetu u svim glavnim regionima gajenja kukuruza. Vremenski uslovi u 2004. godini su pogodovali razvoju kukuruza, pa su u svim reonima ostvareni natprosečni prinosi zrna. Pored toga, zapažene su razlike u prinosu zrna i sadržaju vode u zrnu u berbi, kako između hibrida iz različitih FAO grupa zrenja, tako i između istih hibrida ispitivanih u različitim proizvodnim regionima. U svim reonima u 2004. godini hibridi duže vegetacije FAO 600 i FAO 700 grupa zrenja su ostvarili veće prinose zrna od hibrida iz FAO 300 i FAO 400 grupa zrenja. Najviši prosečan prinos zrna u periodu 2002-2004. godina ostvarili su visokorodni hibridi NS6010, zatim iNS640, Zenit, Tisa i Radan.
