AB - In recent years many countries direct their researches to finding the best way for getting energy and reasonable using of renewable energy as part of circular economy. In research it was analyzed a significant source of all forms of energy, the Spanish cane. Spanish cane can be used on many ways: as biogas, vegetable coal, and as an alternative source of plant fibers. Its cellulose fiber is used for production of paper as well as in the textile industry (substitute for cotton, flax, and kenaf fibers). The Spanish cane can be established as perennial grass areas at degraded and unused land due to its ability to be cultivated in marginal agro-ecological conditions. By development of new technologies for the biological waste processing into energy, within the circular economy, there is increase in the alternative fuel use and, thanks to its low requirements for water and warmth Spanish cane is a desirable energy crop. Speaking of erosion, it has to be mentioned that Spanish cane is one of the best crops for soil protection against all types of erosion. It is also very good in phytoremediation and absorption of harmful gases from the atmosphere, valued in as an ornamental plant and in the construction industry.

AB - In all developed countries, an efficient livestock and cattle production sector is required to ensure a consistent supply of high-quality food. According to recent publications, the global livestock business accounts for 14.5% of total anthropogenic emissions, with the cattle sector contributing to 65%. Although it contributes to total emissions, the livestock sector has the potential to mitigate climate change by 14% to 41%. It is important to emphasize that the animal production sector is critical to food production, which is essential to human survival. However, the reliability of these estimations is frequently called into question. There is currently a particularly active campaign against the livestock and cattle production sectors, and it is critical to identify the interest groups behind it and their reasons. The issue must be asked: would there be a drive for artificial or vegan “meat” if there was no intense campaign against livestock farming as the claimed cause of climate change?

AB - The purpose of this study was to look into how the breed (Holstein or Simmental) and breeding region (Central, Eastern, and Mediterranean) influence the occurrence of subclinical mastitis and its impact on milk production. In order to do this, the study examined 3,953,637 test-day records of Holstein cows and 4,922,751 test-day records of Simmental cows. The daily lactose content was utilized to diagnose subclinical mastitis. The study’s findings showed that subclinical mastitis rates varied significantly depending on the breed and breeding location. The Eastern region’s Holstein cows were the least common. On the test-day, when subclinical mastitis was found in all regions and breeds, the lowest daily milk output was also noted. Subsequent milk records, however, revealed an increase in milk output that differed according to breed and breeding location. The Holstein cows from the Eastern region showed the largest overall increase in milk production. According to these results, healing potential differs greatly depending on the breed and breeding area. Eastern region farms raised Holstein cows, who had the lowest rate of mastitis-related problems and the best likelihood of recuperating and reaching their genetic output potential. As a result, this study implies that dairy cows that are reared at the large, specialized dairy farms that are common in the Eastern region recover more quickly.

AB - Composting of mixed medicinal plant waste was performed with the addition of mixture of plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB), including Streptomyces sp., Paenybacillus sp., Bacillus sp., and Hymenobacter sp., and portions of spent coffee grounds (SCG). To assess the maturity and quality parameters of the compost, chemical and biological parameters (C/N ratio, loss of organic matter, CO2 production, dehydrogenase activity (DHA), and phytotoxicity) were evaluated during the three months of the composting process. The results revealed that the control sample (without the addition of SCG and PGPB) had evidently lower values of DHA during the entire monitoring period in comparison to other samples, indicating lower microbial activity in the compost mixture. Also, according to the released CO2, the composting process was accelerated in all samples where the SCG and PGPB were added, enabling a reduction in time needed for mixed plant waste to decompose. The germination index (GI) of the tested seeds indicated that the produced compost was acceptable and safe, with regard to all of the evaluated samples. However, at the end of the process the samples contained SCG and PGPB, which caused an increase of more than 50% of the GI in comparison to the control sample, expressing a high phyto-stimulant effect and improving the biofertilization impact.

AB - Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] is a legume and the second most planted crop after maize in worldwide. The objective of this study was to evaluate the change in the total plastid pigments content in three soybean varieties depending on the date of sowing and the row spacing was studied during four consecutive years (2018-2021). The Avigea, Isidor and Richi varieties, sown on three dates (I - 28 March - 05 April; II - 19-24 April; III - 09-14 May) at row spacing of 25, 45 and 70 cm were studied in field conditions. The plastid pigments (chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, carotenoids) was determined in fresh plant samples in the beginning of pod formation stage. The total content of plastid pigments and the chlorophyll a/chlorophyll b and chlorophyll a + chlorophyll b/carotenoids ratios were calculated. The total plastid pigments content varied by years and varieties depending on the date of sowing and row spacing. The date of sowing was found as a factor with stronger effect on the plastid pigments content compared to the row spacing. On average for the period it was found that the total plastid pigments content in the Avigea variety decreased compared to the first date of sowing at all three row spacing, most pronounced at 45 cm. The reduction reached 25.59% on the second date and up to 19.02% on the third sowing date. The strongest effect of the date of sowing on the plastid pigments content was found in the Richi variety on the third date of sowing, where the increase was up to 64.33% at a row spacing of 25 cm and up to 36.02% at a row spacing of 70 cm compared to the first date. The row spacing factor had a smaller effect - for Avigea variety a decrease of 12.31% was reported on the second sowing date and a row spacing of 45 cm compared to the 70 cm accepted row spacing and for Richi variety by 15.79% on the first date and row spacing 45 cm. The chlorophyll a/chlorophyll b ratio decreased at a row spacing of 25 at the second (for Isidor and Richi) and third sowing dates (for Avigea and Isidor).

AB - The biological performance of grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.) hybrid lines [LHL (BGE027129 × LA5108), LHL-2 (BGE025277 × LA5108) and LHL-3 (LA5108 × BGE027129]) and their parental components (BGE027129, BGE025277 and LA5108 varieties) were studied in a three-year field experiment. Biometric analysis of each variety and line was done for main quantitative traits and phenological stages and periods. The height of the plants at the technological maturity of the grain reached 46 cm. The vegetation period has an average duration of 93 days. New variety Yodai was created, which was obtained by multiple individual selection from the cross BGE027129 × LA5108 (line LHL). The new variety ripens 4-5 days before the varieties BGE027129 and LA5108. On average, 13 well-fed pods per plant were formed with a total of 22 normally developed seeds. The seeds were medium-large with a white seed coat, with a flat oval shape. The seed productivity (4.41 g/plant) exceeds the average of the parental varieties (3.80 g/plant). The weight of 1000 seeds was about 172 g. The crude protein content was 23.85%. In addition, the variety has good resistance to cracking of the pods. It is drought tolerant and weakly attacked by diseases and enemies. In 2022, by the decision of the Expert Commission at the Executive Agency for Variety Testing, Field Inspection and Seed Control, Bulgaria (appointed by order RD-10-1/14.01.2022) and by order No. RD-14-3 of 02.03.2022, the Yodai variety was recognized as new and original.
AB - Biološke performanse hibridnih linija stočnog graška (Lathirus sativus L.) [LHL (BGE027129 × LA5108), LHL-2 (BGE025277 × LA5108) i LHL-3 (LA5108 × BGE027129]) i njihovih roditeljskih komponenti (BGE027129 × LA5108) i (12712750) sorte) proučavani su u trogodišnjem poljskom ogledu. Urađena je biometrijska analiza svake sorte i linije za glavne kvantitativne osobine i fenološke faze i periode. Visina biljaka u tehnološkoj zrelosti zrna dostigla je 46 cm. Vegetacijski period u proseku traje 93 dana.

AB - The influence of physical and chemical characteristics of the geological substrate have a significant role on the properties of the soil that is formed on a given substrate. The serpentine geological base is characterized by the presence of an increased amount of heavy metals in the soil. In serpentine soil, the amount of magnesium exceeds the amount of calcium. Such edaphic conditions of habitats impose and encourage the development of structural functional adaptations of plants serpentinophytes, which inhabit these habitats. It is represented on a limestone substrate, ultrabasic serpentines and on an acid silicate substrate. In response to adverse environmental conditions,
plants produce a large number of secondary metabolites whose chemical composition depends on different environmental conditions. Therefore, the results of the research showed that the examined species has mechanisms that enable survival in stressful environmental conditions, in terms of physical and chemical characteristics of the soil.

AB - Linseed - Linum usitatissimum L. is an important raw material for functional food and medicinal purposes due to its high content of α-linolenic acid (ALA, omega-3 fatty acid), lignans and fiber, in its seed and oil. Linseed or linseed oil аs а functional food ingredient, incorporated into baked foods, juices, milk and dairy products, muffins, cakes, pastries, dry pasta products and meat products for the purpose of sensory enhancer of taste and product quality. Linseed have various properties: antioxidant, immunomodulatory, antimicrobial, antiprotozoal, anti-inflammatory, insecticidal, analgesic, anti-hyperlipidemia, anti-hyperglycemic, antitumors and have effects on disease prevention: GI disorders, cardiovascular, urogenital and respiratory diseases.
Linseed have application in drug formulations. Because of the great importance of linseed, in this study, the productivity parameters of new genotypes of oil linseed: NS Primus and NS Marko are presented. Morphological productive parameters and quality parameters of the tested linseed varieties were tested: plant height, plant weight, number of seed per plants and grain yield. The experiments were carried out on the plots of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in three repetitions and their aim was testing of stability and productivity of these genotype. Genotype had a
significant influence on the examined morpho-productive parameters. By applying the new, improved varietal production technology, we can successfully face the climate changes that are more and more present from year to year, and which certainly determine the direction of future development. The new genotypes of linseed have achieved excellent performance and are recommended for wider production both in
our country and in neighboring countries primarily due to the great technological importance of linseed products.

AB - Organic production has a significant impact on human health, animal, food security and environmental sustainability. Pesticide exposures from conventional production may lead to important diseases, such as Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, brains damage, especially in children and certain types of cancer. Epidemiological studies highlight adverse effects of certain pesticides on children’s cognitive development.
Use of pesticides in organic agriculture is restricted. Organic food are abundant with vitamins, antioxidants (vitamin C, polyphenols and flavonoids), minerals and dry matter content. Regular consumption of organic products (fruits and vegetables, dairy products and meat) significant reduces the risk of overweight, of pre eclampsia in pregnancy and allergic disease. Organic meats and dairy products have a higher content of omega-3 fatty acids compared to conventional products and do not contain antibiotics. Due to the reduced amount of pesticide residues and an increased secondary plant metabolites, intake which are found in organic food, there is a reduction in health problems and a positive effect on health.

AB - The paper examined the influence of the application of fermented extract of horsetail (Equisetum arvense L.) in order to control tomato late blight (Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary). Given that the European Union intends to reduce the total use of chemical pesticides of 50% by 2030., for this reason we need an alternative in the protection of plants and soil. The aim of the work arose from the need for a solution to one of the most economically significant diseases of tomatoes in our region. The location of the research was the collection of the Institute for the Study of Medicinal Plants "Dr. Josif Pančić" located in Pančevo (44°52'20"N; 20°42'06"E; 74 m.a.s.l.). The
experiments were carried out during the growing season in 2020 with the tomato variety „Ox Heart“ („Volovsko srce“), on the humogley soil type, according to a random block system in four replications.
After the evaluation of the infection of the plants by late blight, the best results were shown by the fourth variant (six weeks after the first treatment, i.e. four treatments of plants with fermented extract of horsetail) which had the least pathogen presence (on average 1.6 i.p.), while the worst results were achieved by the control variant in which there was the highest presence of the examined disease (on average 3.7 i. p.). The highest yield of tomato fruit was recorded on plants in the third variant, i.e. after three treatments or four weeks after the first treatment with fermented extract of horsetail.

The date of sowing was found as a factor with stronger effect on the plastid pigments content compared to the row spacing., Soja [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] je mahunarka i druga najzastupljenija gajena biljka posle kukuruza u svetu.

AB - The results of the study of the influence of fertilization and calcification on the yield and yield components of winter triticale grown on low pH soil are presented in this paper. Five variants of fertilization were tested during three growing seasons. Trial treatments included different fertilization variants: V1-control, V2-N120, V3-N120P80K60, V4-N120P80K60 + 5 t ha- 1 of lime and V5-N120P80K60 + 5 t ha-1 of lime + 30 t ha-1 of manure. The results of the research showed that all yield components responded positively to the application of mineral nutrition by changing the production characteristics and grain quality. The variant with the combined application of NPK, lime and manure had the greatest positive effect on all tested parameters affecting triticale productivity. During the study, the highest yield of triticale 5.826 t ha-1 was obtained on the fertilization variant with the combined application of lime, manure and NPK fertilizers. The achieved increase in the grain yield of triticale was significant compared to the control and the NPK variant of fertilization. Highly significant positive dependencies were found between the grain yield with 1000-grain weight, and test weight and significant positive dependencies were found between 1000-grain weight and test weight. The research highlighted the impact of different fertilizer treatments on the yield and grain quality traits of winter triticale.

AB - Climate change seriously threatens food security worldwide, causing extreme weather conditions and reducing agricultural productivity. Increased temperatures and greenhouse gas emissions are the main drivers of these changes. While increased CO2 concentration can enhance plant growth, elevated temperatures and other factors offset these benefits. Therefore, it is essential to consider adaptation measures, including the development of climate-tolerant crop varieties and innovations in agricultural practices to preserve food security in a changing climate. Smart agriculture involves the use of advanced technologies such as climate, soil, and plant monitoring sensors, IoT devices that enable the connectivity of various aspects of agricultural production, and data analytics for decision-making. These technologies enable farmers to better understand environmental changes and respond quickly to unpredictable climatic conditions.

AB - A strong livestock and cattle production sector is a necessary prerequisite for ensuring a reliable supply of quality food in all developed countries. Recent publications indicate that the global livestock industry is responsible for 14.5% of anthropogenic emissions, with the cattle sector accounting for 65%. Despite contributing to total emissions, the livestock sector has the potential to mitigate climate change by 14% to 41%. It is noteworthy that the livestock production sector is vital to food production, which is fundamental to human existence. However, the accuracy of these estimates is often called into question. There is currently a highly aggressive campaign against the livestock and cattle production sector, and it is essential to ascertain the interest groups behind this campaign and their motivations.

AB - In order to ensure security in the supply of necessary energy sources, most countries in the world direct their research in the direction of finding the most rational way of using renewable energy sources and the circular economy. The paper analyzed the Spanish reed as a significant source of all forms of energy, from biogas, to solid biofuels and vegetable coal, and as an alternative source of plant fibers. The separated cellulose is most often used for paper production, but also in the textile industry, as a substitute for cotton, flax and kenaf fibers. The fact that Spanish cane can be cultivated and in marginal agro-ecological conditions provides us with opportunities to establish perennial grass areas on unused and degraded areas.

AB - The objective of this study was to investigate how breed (Holstein or Simmental) and breeding region (Central, Eastern, and Mediterranean) affect the prevalence of subclinical mastitis and its impact on milk production. To achieve this, the study analysed a total of 4,922,751 test-day records of Simmental cows and 3,953,637 test-day records of Holstein cows. As indicator of subclinical mastitis, the daily lactose content was used.

AB - In this study, the sustainable management of rapeseed waste in the function of environmental protection was examined. After the harvest of these oil plants, dry flowering stems with remains of husks remain in the fields. These harvest residues can be used in several ways, namely as animal feed, then as a mat for mulching, making compost or as raw material for biofuel. Nowadays, dry rapeseed residues are increasingly evaluated as a potential source of secondary biomass for the production of second-generation fuels, since they are a cheap renewable bioresource. The second and most important secondary product is the oil shot that remains after the average extraction of the oil. Oil meal has a high nutritional and vitamin value and is used as animal feed, and unrefined oil meal in further industrial processing to obtain a number of useful products or as organic soil nutrients.

AB - Linum usitatissimum L. is an oilseed, which is used in food, but also as medicinal plant, in medicine and in other branches of industry. Flax seeds and flax oil contain α-linolenic acid (ALA, omega-3 fatty acid), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), fiber, phytoestrogens, etc. Thanks to the favorable composition of flax seeds, it is a significant antioxidant, used in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis, autoimmune and neurological disorders. Međutim, proizvodnja i širenje bioenergetskih usjeva izloženi su oštrim kritikama i sumnjama u njihovu ekonomsku opravdanost. Osnovni problem je identifikacija najpodesnije biomase i projektovanje procesa kojim iz nje treba dobiti energiju.
AB - Using the produced biomass would significantly reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, which Serbia and Republic of Srpska have in limited quantities. The great genetic potential of fertility has classified miscanthus in the group of the most important bio-energetic crops. By introducing these predominantly perennial plants into production, with slightly higher investments in the year of establishment and significantly less in the years of use, uncultivated agricultural land could be used and also the most non-agricultural areas and deposoles could be bring to purpose.
