Relationships among androgenetic components in wheat and their responses to the environment

AB  - The effect of two nutrient media, Potato-2 and N6, on androgenetic component traits and their relationships were studied in wheat anther culture. Six wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) F-1 combinations (NS 20 x Driada, MV 05-2001 x Lana, MV 05-2001 x Zitnica, Driada x NS 403/00, Driada x Dacia and Odeska 162 x NS KV 124/01A) were used as material for anther isolation. Variations, interrelationships and path analysis for five androgenetic component traits (androgenetic capacity: AC, embryoid induction: El, regeneration ability: RA, frequency of green plants: FOP and frequency of albino plants: FAP) were established. The average values for AC and El were significantly lower on N6 medium, while for RA, FOP and FAP there were no significant differences between the Potato-2 and N6 media. Correlation coefficient analyses showed positive correlation between AC and El (r = 0.99* on Potato-2 and r = 0.86* on N6), and between RA and FOP (r = 0.95* on Potato-2, r = 0.93* on N6), on both media. Additionally, the direct effects of RA and FAP on FOP were higly significant on both media, as determined by path coefficient, analysis. A trait-association using environment biplot was applied to understand the environmental effects on these relationships. The biplot showed that anther culture trait associations were differently responsive to the environment.

Biplot analysis of diallel crosses of NS maize inbred lines

AB  - Genetic markers, from morphological to molecular, in function with early Heterosis is a prerequisite for the successful commercial maize production. It does not appear in any cross of two inbred lines, and therefore, the determination of combining abilities of parental lines is essential. The most commonly used method for determining combining abilities is diallel analysis. Besides conventional methods for diallel analysis, a new biplot approach has been sugested. In this paper, we studied the combining ability for grain yield in a set of genotypes obtained by diallel crossing system of six inbred lines. Both, the Griffing's conventional method and the biplot approach have been used for diallel analysis. Comparing the GCA values from biplot analysis and Griffing's method, similar results can be observed, with the exception of NS L 1051 and NS L 1000 whose ranks are interchanged. Biplot analysis enables the SCA estimation of parent inbred, and the highest SCA has inbred B73D. Biplot analysis also allows the estimation of the best crosses. Inbred B73D shows the best results when crossed with testers Mo17Ht, NS L 1051 and N152, inbred N152 combines best with testers NS L 1001 and NS L 1000, whereas the cross of inbred NS L 1051 with tester B73D results with the highest grain yield per plant in comparison with other testers.
AB  - Određivanje kombinacionih sposobnosti roditeljskih inbred linija, radi iskorištavanja heterozisa, je od suštinske važnosti. Najčešće korišćen metod je dialelna analiza. Pored konvencionalnih metoda dialelne analize za procenu kombinacionih sposobnosti, u poslednje vreme prisutan je i novi pristup analize kombinacionih sposobnosti. U ovom radu smo proučavali kombinacione sposobnosti za prinos zrna u setu genotipova dobijenih dialelnim sistemom ukrštanja šest linija. Pored primene konvencionalne metode analize po Griffingu, korišten je i biplot pristup za sagledavanje podataka. Upoređujući vrednosti OKS dobijenih biplot analizom i primenom Griffing-ovog metoda, dobijeni su slični rezultati, sa izuzetkom NS L 1051 i NS L 1000 čiji su rangovi zamenjeni. Biplot analiza omogućava i procenu PKS samih roditeljskih linija. Najveća vrednost PKS zapažena je kod linije B73D, a zatim slede: NS L 1051, NS L 1001, Mo17Ht, N152 i NS L 1000. Biplot analiza takođe omogućava i procenu najboljih ukrštanja. Inbred linija B73D pokazala je najbolje rezultate u ukrštanju sa linijama Mo17Ht, NS L 1051 i N152, N152 sa NS L 1001 i NS L 1000, dok se linija NS L 1051 najbolje kombinuje sa testerom B73D.

Correlation and path analysis of grain yield and morphological traits in test-cross populations of maize

AB  - One of the goals of this paper was to determine correlation between grain yield, like the most important agronomic trait, and traits of the plant and ear that are influencing on the grain yield, in two test-cross populations, which are formed by crossing progenies of NSU1 population after 17 cycles of phenotypic recurrent selection and two testers, 568/II NS and B73. At 568/II NS testcrosses, grain yield had the highest value of genotypic coefficient of correlations with kernel row number. In second studied population the highest value of coefficient of correlations also was found between grain yield and kernel row number, but that relation was negative. Path coefficient analysis provides more information among variables than do correlation coefficients. Because of that goal of this study also was founding the direct and indirect effects of morphological traits on grain yield. Desirable, high significant influence on grain yield, in path coefficient analysis, was found for ear height, in both studied populations. Plant height, in both testcross populations, kernel row number and oil content, at B73 testcrosses, has high significant undesirable effect on grain yield.

AB  - Utilization of heterosis requires the study of combining abilities of potential parents. In view of this, the objective of this paper was to study combining abilities and determine the mode of inheritance and gene effects for the main agronomic character, grain yield, and its components, kernel row number and kernel number per row. Six inbred lines were used in the study, three of which originated in the U.S., while the other three were developed at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad. Kernel row number was inherited by superdominance, partial dominance, complete dominance and intermediacy. The mode of inheritance of kernel number per row and grain yield was superdominance. Additive gene action had the greatest influence on the expression of kernel row number, while the other two traits were influenced the most by nonadditive gene.
AB  - Iskorištavanje heterozisa zahteva poznavanje kombinacionih sposobnosti potencijalnih roditelja. Imajući ovo u vidu cilj ovog rada je bio proučavanje kombinacionih sposobnosti i utvrđivanje načina nasleđivanja prinosa zrna, kao glavne agronomske osobine, i komponenti prinosa zrna, broj redova zrna na klipu i broj zrna na klipu. U radu je korišteno 6 inbred linija, od kojih su 3 poreklom iz SAD, a 3 su razvijene u Institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo u Novom Sadu. Način nasleđivanja broja redova zrna na klipu bila je superdominacija, parcijalna dominacija, puna dominacija i intermedijarnost, a kod broja zrna na klipu i prinosa zrna po biljci u svim hibridnim kombinacijama pojavila se superdominacija. Aditivni efekat gena imao je najveći uticaj na ekspresiju broja redova zrna na klipu, dok je za druge dve proučavane osobine ustanovljeno da je neaditivan efekat gena imao najveći uticaj.

AB  - In this work was analyzed number of grains per spike stability for 11 bread wheat varieties, on halomorphic soil, solonetz type, in Banat. Stability have been followed in two vegetation periods on null control, and two melioration levels of 25 t/ha, and 50 t/ha phosphor-gypsum. Genotype by environment interaction was quantified using AMMI model. According the results, wheat varietes in the exam reacted differently to different levels of melioration, depending not only on genotype, but also on environmental conditions.
AB  - U radu je analizirana stabilnost broja zrna po klasu 11 genotipova pšenice, na halomorfnom zemljištu, tipa solonjec u Banatu. Stabilnost je praćena u dve vegetacione sezone, na kontroli i dva nivoa popravke zemljišta fosfogipsom. Interakcija genotip/ spoljna sredina procenjena je AMMI modelom. Zapažena je različita reakcija sorti pšenice na nivo popravke zemljišta, u odnosu na svaki tretman i vegetacionu sezonu.

abstract = "In this work was analyzed number of grains per spike stability for 11 bread wheat varieties, on halomorphic soil, solonetz type, in Banat. Stability have been followed in two vegetation periods on null control, and two melioration levels of 25 t/ha, and 50 t/ha phosphor-gypsum. Genotype by environment interaction was quantified using AMMI model. According the results, wheat varietes in the exam reacted differently to different levels of melioration, depending not only on genotype, but also on environmental conditions., U radu je analizirana stabilnost broja zrna po klasu 11 genotipova pšenice, na halomorfnom zemljištu, tipa solonjec u Banatu. Stabilnost je praćena u dve vegetacione sezone, na kontroli i dva nivoa popravke zemljišta fosfogipsom. Interakcija genotip/ spoljna sredina procenjena je AMMI modelom. Zapažena je različita reakcija sorti pšenice na nivo popravke zemljišta, u odnosu na svaki tretman i vegetacionu sezonu.",

AB  - In this paper has been tested relationship between two characteristics of phenotype: plant height and number of lateral branches. Research was conducted at Rimski Šančevi during 2007/2008. and 7 of Novi Sad's genotypes were included. Positive correlations for plant height and number of lateral branches were find at majority of lines.
AB  - U radu je ispitan odnos između dve fenotipske osobine: visine biljke i broja bočnih grana. Ispitivanje je sprovedeno na Rimskim Šančevima tokom 2008. godine i u ogled je uključeno 7 novosadskih genotipova uljane repice,(Ln 5, Ln 6, Ln 7, Ln 8, Ln 9, Ln 10 i Ln 17). Pozitivne korelacije za visinu biljke i broj bočnih grana su uočene kod većine linija.
