Effect of safener cyprosulfamide on isoxaflutole selectivity towards maize inbred lines

AB  - Field trials were conducted in 2008 and 2009 to evaluate selectivity of isoxaflutole applied pre-emergence, and their mixture with safener cyprosulfamide towards fifteen maize inbred lines. The studied inbred lines responded differently to isoxaflutole, and the most susceptible lines in both years were popcorn inbreds 23 k NS and 24 k NS. The addition of cyprosulfamide proved effective in reducing phytotoxicity to maize inbred lines caused by isoxaflutole.
AB  - U poljskim ogledima tokom 2008. i 2009. ispitivana je osetljivost inbred linija kukuruza prema herbicidu izoksaflutolu i uticaj protektanta ciprosulfamida na povećanje njegove selektivnosti. Selektivnost izoksaflutola prema inbred linijama kukuruza zavisila je od genotipa, primenjene količine herbicida, primene protektanta i vremenskih uslova. U 2008. većina inbred linija ispoljila je osetljivost prema izoksaflutolu primenjenom posle setve a pre nicanja u količini 192 g ha-1. Slabija fitotoksičnost izoksaflutola utvrđena je u 2009, a u obe godine najosetljivije su bile linije kokičara 23 k NS i 24 k NS. Zajednička primena izoksaflutola i protektanta ciprosulfamida nije izazvala značajnu fitotoksičnost, smanjenje visine biljaka ni prinosa zrna kod većine ispitivanih linija, uključujući i pojedine genotipove osetljive prema izoksaflutolu. Ciprosulfamid je značajno doprineo povećanju selektivnosti izoksaflutola, što ukazuje na mogućnost primene ove kombinacije u proizvodnji većine ispitivanih inbred linija.

AB  - An essential prerequisite for high yield is a healthy plant, which will be developed from a healthy seed. Seed quality is affected by many biotic and abiotic factors that decrease yield and its quality, and can be life-threatening to humans and animals if consumed. One of the most efficient and economical methods of achieving and maintaining good health condition of seeds is chemical treatment. Using active ingredients with systemic mode of action, plants will be protected during the most critical period of their development, germination and sprouting. Since pesticides cannot be applied in organic farming, new solutions had to be found for this increasing market. New methods, like high temperatures, low energy electrons, UV and gamma rays, magnetic energy, cold plasma, microorganisms etc. have been tested. Hot humid air and low energy electrons are already being used commercially, with the effects that are equal to chemical treatment. The tests conducted with microorganisms for seed disinfection showed that this method still cannot match the chemical seed treatment. Nevertheless, it has the potential that should be further tested. Perhaps the solution is a combination of biological and physical methods.
AB  - Osnovni preduslov za visoke prinose je zdrava biljka, koja će se razviti iz zdravog semena. Na kvalitet semena utiču brojni faktori biotičke i abiotičke prirode, koji smanjuju visinu prinosa i njegov kvalitet, a mogu ugroziti zdravlje i život čoveka i životinja, ukoliko konzumiraju takvo seme. Jedan od najefikasnijih i ekonomski najprihvatljvijih načina postizanja i očuvanja dobrog zdravstvenog stanja semena je hemijski tretman. Koristeći aktivne materije sa sistemičnim dejstvom, zaštitićemo biljku tokom najkritičnijeg perioda njenog razvoja, tokom klijanja i nicanja. Tretman semena predstavlja odličnu alternativu primeni zemljišnih pesticida i folijarnoj primeni tokom vegetacije, jer se na ovaj način unosi znatno manje aktivne materije u prirodnu sredinu, i smanjuje opasnost od slučajne intoksikacije čoveka i životinja. Kako primena pesticida nije dozvoljena u organskoj proizvodnji, poslednjih godina se radi na pronalaženju novih rešenja koja bi zadovoljila zahteve ovog rastućeg tržišta. Metoda termodezinfekcije je već zaživela u komercijalnoj primeni, a podrazumeva korišćenje toplog, vlažnog vazduha, koji destruktivno deluje na ćelije patogena, bez štetnog efekta na seme. Prednosti ove metode su širok spektar dejstva i efekat na patogene organizme koji je jednak hemijskom tretmanu. Zadovoljavajuće rezultate pokazao je i tretman elektronima niske energije. Niska energija ograničava prodiranje elektrona na debljinu semenjače, pa nema opasnosti po klicu. Pored fungicidnog, metoda pokazuje i dobro insekticidno dejstvo na jaja, larve, lutke i imaga skladišnih štetočina. Obe metode su pogodne kako za organsku, tako i za konvencionalnu poljoprivrednu proizvodnju. Ispitivanja vršena sa mikroorganizmima pokazala su da ova metoda po rezultatima još uvek značajno zaostaje za hemijskim i fizičkim tretmanom semena. Bez obzira na dosadašnje rezultate ispitivanja u prirodnim i laboratorijskim uslovima, svakako da ima potencijal koji bi tretbalo ispitati i iskoristiti. Možda bi, u budućnosti, rešenje trebalo tražiti u kombinaciji biološkog i fizičkog metoda tretmana semena.

AB  - In this paper we investigated grain yield and yield stability of NS maize hybrids of different FAO maturity groups. Fifteen hybrids were grown in strip trials without replications at 29 locations in Serbia. Although weather conditions were not favorable for maize, especially in the dry areas, the average grain yield was fairly high (8.09 tha-1). High grain mean values and above-average stability of grain yield were found in the hybrids NS 6030, NS 6010, and NS 4015.
AB  - NS hibridi kukuruza (15 hibrida) su u 2008. godini ispitivani u makrogledima na 29 lokacija u svim rejonima gajenja kukuruza u Srbiji. Prirodni uslovi za proizvodnju nisu bili naklonjeni proizvodnji kukuruza, naročito u tradicionalno sušnim rejonima. AB  - Commercial NS maize hybrids were evaluated in all the major maize-growing areas of Serbia in 2007 under common cultivation practices. The growing conditions in the country were unfavorable for maize, mostly because of a lack of water during vegetation. Even in such poor conditions, NS maize hybrids exhibited wide adaptability and a high yield potential. The hybrids Zenit, NS 640, Tisa and NS 7016 proved stable in regard to regression coefficient (around 1.0) and were very productive (high yields accross the locations). Early and medium early hybrids from FAO maturity groups 300 to 500 (such as NS 3014, NS 4015, and NS 540) are recommended for the droughty areas of western, eastern and southern Serbia. NS 6010 and NS 640 were among the most productive hybrids in the country. Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad has so far registered more than 200 maize hybrids. Thirteen of these were released in 2007, all yellow dent with the standard quality of grain. In the category of medium early hybrids (FAO maturity group 500), the new hybrids are NS 5022 and 5025, whereas in FAO maturity group 600 the newest additions are NS 6031, NS 6041, NS 6025, NS 6022, NS 6043, NS 6053 and NS 6060. Four late hybrids have been released as well, namely NS 7043, NS 7040, NS 8033 and NS 8043.
AB  - Komercijalni NS hibridi kukuruza su u 2007. godini ispitivani u ogledima u proizvodnim uslovima u svim glavnim rejonima gajenja kukuruza u Srbiji. Prošla godina nije bila povoljna godina za razvoj kukuruza. Suša je u pojedinim rejonima imala karakter elementarne nepogode. Čak i u tako nepovoljnoj godini NS hibridi kukuruza su pokazali visok proizvodni potencijal. U rejonima u kojima se suša javlja svake godine (severna Bačka, severni i centralni Banat, istočna i južna Srbija) NS hibridi su pokazali široku adaptabilnost, a u najproduktivnijim rejonima (zapadna i južna Bačka i donji Srem) u uslovima bez navodnjavanja ostvarili su i prošle godine 15 i više tona suvog zrna po hektaru. U prošloj godini je priznato 13 novih NS hibrida kukuruza i to dva u FAO 500 grupi zrenja: NS 5022 i 5025, sedam u FAO 600 grupi zrenja: NS 6031, NS 6041, NS 6025, NS 6022, NS 6043, NS 6053 i NS 6060, dva u FAO 700: NS 7043 i NS 7040 i dva u FAO 800 grupi zrenja: NS 8033 i NS 8043.

AB  - The maize yield reduction in Serbia in 2007 which was near 50% relative to the long-term average, was caused primarily by drought stress at flowering and during the grain filling period. We analyzed some specific location-hybrid relationships for grain yield of NS maize hybrids, representing different maturity groups. We used the results of the post-official trials of NS hybrids evaluated at five location in 2007 (Rimski Šančevi, Pančevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Sombor and Srbobran). The locations showed quite different yielding potentials (from 7.1 t/ha to 11.4 t/ha at locations Sombor and Rimski Šančevi, respectively). Two locations, Rimski Šančevi and Pančevo, showed the highest proportion of hybrids that performed similarly in both dry season (2007) and under moderate climatic conditions (2006).
AB  - U Srbiji je u 2007. godini proizvedeno blizu 50% manje kukuruza u odnosu na višegodišnji prosek. Glavni razlog smanjenja prinosa je stres izazvan sušom i visokim temperaturama u fazi cvetanja biljaka i nalivanja zrna. U radu je analizirana međuzavisnost lokalitet-hibrid za prinos zrna NS hibrida kukuruza različite dužine vegetacije. Korišćeni su rezultati postkomisijskih ogleda sa pet različitih lokaliteta u 2007. godini (Rimski Šančevi, Pančevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Sombor i Srbobran). Najveći prosečan prinos ostvaren na Rimskim Šančevima (11,4 t/ha), bio je za 4,3 t/ha veći od proseka najmanje produktivnog lokaliteta - Sombor, sa 7,1 t/ha. Lokaliteti Rimski Šančevi i Pančevo istovremeno pokazuju najveći stepen podudarnosti u favorizovanju zajedničkih (istih) hibrida u sušnoj (2007) i prosečno rodnoj (2006) godini.
