AB - Apple is one of the most economically important fruit crops worldwide, and postharvest fungal diseases can cause significant losses during storage (Petreˇs et al. 2020). Apple fruits (cv. Fuji) with necrosis symptoms were collected during the fall of 2022 from an ultra-low-oxygen cold storage facility in Titel, Serbia. The fruits originated from the apple orchards in Titel (45°12947.10N, 20°15923.60E). The pathogens were isolated from collected fruit samples using standard phytopathological techniques. Fruits were surface-sterilized, rinsed with sterile water, and aseptically cut in half, and small fragments collected from the border of healthy and diseased tissue were placed on potato dextrose agar (PDA) medium in Petri dishes and incubated at 25 ± 1°C in the dark for 7 days. The obtained 11 isolates were identified to the genus level as Alternaria (incidence, 46%), Penicillium (36%), Fusarium (9%), and Stemphylium (9%) based on their morphological characteristics. Pathogenicity of all the isolates was confirmed on apple fruits of cultivars Fuji and Golden Delicious. The fruits were surface-sterilized, sprayed with 5 ml of conidial suspension (1 × 105 conidia/ml), and incubated at room temperature for 21 days. Symptoms developed on inoculated fruits were the same as symptoms observed on apple fruit samples collected from cold storage.

Poslednjih decenija razvoj fitobakteriologije tekao je dinamično i ubrzano, zahvaljujući sve bržem napretku nauke i tehnologije, razvoju sredstava komunikacije, posvećenosti istraživača, naučnoj saradnji, studijskim boravcima u međunarodnim obrazovnim i naučnim institucijama, novim metodama izučavanja i olakšanom pristupu informacijama. U Srbiji, najviše pažnje je posvećeno proučavanju FPB, a kasnije i fitoplazmi, poreklom iz ekonomski značajnih biljnih vrsta voćaka, vinove loze, povrtarskih, ratarskih i ukrasnih biljaka.

AB - Fitopatogene gljive značajno ugrožavaju kvalitet plodova jabuke tokom skladištenja. Vrste Colletotrichum acutatum i Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, prouzrokovači gorke truleži (antraknoze) plodova jabuke, u pojedinim godinama prouzrokuju značajne gubitke.

abstract = "Fitopatogene gljive značajno ugrožavaju kvalitet plodova jabuke tokom skladištenja. Vrste Colletotrichum acutatum i Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, prouzrokovači gorke truleži (antraknoze) plodova jabuke, u pojedinim godinama prouzrokuju značajne gubitke.

AB - Xanthomonas euvesicatoria is a worldwide causer of pepper bacterial spot, a bacterial plant disease responsible for massive losses of fresh pepper fruits. Considering the current problems in management of bacterial plant diseases, biological control using antagonistic microbial strains with high potential for plant pathogens suppression emerges as a possible solution. The aim of this study was to select suitable antagonists for suppression of X. euvesicatoria among the bacteria, yeast and fungi from the genera Pseudomonas, Lactobacillus, Saccharomyces and Trichoderma, based on in vitro antimicrobial activity testing using the diffusion disc method. The results of this study have revealed that cultivation broth samples of the antagonists Lactobacillus MK3 and Trichoderma reseii QM 9414, as well as supernatant samples of the antagonist Pseudomonas aeruginosa I128, have showed significant potential to be applied in biological control of X. euvesicatoria. Further research would be required to formulate suitable cultivation medium and optimize bioprocess conditions for production of the proposed pepper bacterial spot biocontrol agents.

AB - World potato production is affected by plant pathogenic bacteria, which significantly limit crop yield and quality in recent years. Bacteria belonging to Pectobacterium and Dickeya genera, causal agents of blackleg and tuber soft rot of potato, are considered as one of the most important pathogens that affect plant production worldwide. Main source of infection are latently infected seed tubers, which transmitted over long trade distances significantly increase disease incidence. Main identification tools for Pectobacterium and Dickeya species until recently were morphological and biochemical characterization methods, followed by pathogenicity tests. Due to phylogenetic heterogeneity of the soft rot and blackleg causing bacteria, identification and differentiation to species and subspecies level became increasingly difficult. Therefore, development of efficient and reliable identification methods is of high importance. Molecular and serological methods offer accurate, reliable and cost-effective differentiation of high specificity and reproducibility. This work aimed to review Pectobacterium i Dickeya species occurring on potato, with special highlight on available molecular identification techniques.

AB - Matthiola longipetala (Vent) DC, commonly known as "night-scented stock" or "evening stock" is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Matthiola in the family Brassicaceae. It is a common garden flower, available in a variety of colours, many of which are heavily scented and also used in floristry. An elevated incidence of Fusarium was observed during a routine quality control seed assay of M. longipetala obtained from a private production facility in Đurđevo, Serbia in 2018. To our knowledge, this is the first report of F. equiseti as a causal agent of seed rot on M. longipetala in Serbia.

AB - Bacterial pathogen Xanthomonas euvesicatoria, principal causer of bacterial spot, represents a significant problem in agricultural practice due to high yield losses in the production of pepper and tomato. The development of resistance to copper pesticides has shifted research, in the field of its suppression, towards biopesticides. In this study, several Bacillus strains were tested against Xanthomonas euvesicatoria strains, isolated from pepper leaves with symptoms of bacterial spot, to select a sufficiently effective antagonist. When it comes to the testing of cultivation broth, containing biomass of tested antagonists, the best results were achieved using isolate Bacillus sp3. On the other hand, when biomass-free supernatants, containing produced antimicrobial compounds, were tested, Bacillus sp1 and Bacillus sp2 have shown the highest antimicrobial activity. The results of this study represent a basis for further development of bioprocess solutions for the production of biopesticides based on Bacillus spp. biomass or antimicrobial compounds, showing high efficiency in suppression of pepper bacterial spot.
AB - Bakterijski patogen Xanthomonas euvesicatoria predstavlja glavnog uzročnika bakteriozne pegavosti, stoga predstavlja značajan problem u poljoprivrednoj praksi usled izazivanja velikih gubitaka prinosa u proizvodnji paprike i paradajza.

abstract = "Bacterial pathogen Xanthomonas euvesicatoria, principal causer of bacterial spot, represents a significant problem in agricultural practice due to high yield losses in the production of pepper and tomato. The results of this study represent a basis for further development of bioprocess solutions for the production of biopesticides based on Bacillus spp. biomass or antimicrobial compounds, showing high efficiency in suppression of pepper bacterial spot., Bakterijski patogen Xanthomonas euvesicatoria predstavlja glavnog uzročnika bakteriozne pegavosti, stoga predstavlja značajan problem u poljoprivrednoj praksi usled izazivanja velikih gubitaka prinosa u proizvodnji paprike i paradajza.

AB - Brown rot (the causal agent: Monilinia laxa Aderh. and Ruhl.) is one of the most common and most destructive diseases among stone fruit, sweet cherries in particular. The objective of this paper was to determine different responses to brown rot among nine sweet cherry genotypes grown under the field conditions of infection in open field. In terms of enzyme and antioxidant activity occurring under infection, the studied genotypes showed significant differences in comparison with healthy fruits. However, at the biochemical level, soluble proteins (SP), superoxid dismutase activity (SOD), guaiacol peroxidase activity (GPX), pyrogallol peroxidase activity (PPX), lipid peroxidation (LP) and antioxidant activity (ABTS and TRC assays) in sweet cherry fruits was significantly affected by genotype, plant disease and interaction of these two factors. Significant differences between studied parameters of healthy and infected fruits were recorded in genotypes Junska rana, Merchant, Sue and III/VAL. The parameters studied can be used as a method of assessment of resistance to brown rot among sweet cherry cultivars.

AB - Six coriander accessions of different origins were grown on an experimental field in Mogorin, Serbia during 2014. The GC/MS analysis of the essential oil showed that the major components in all samples were linalool (69.3-72.0%), gamma-terpinene (6.0-9.6%) and alpha-pinene (6.7-8.2%), while other compounds were present at less than 5%. Antifungal activity of coriander oils against two phytopathogenic fungi from Colletotrichum genus (C. acutatum and C. gloeosporioides) was evaluated using the inverted petriplate method. Experiments show that coriander essential oil has antifungal properties against the apple bitter rot pathogens from Colletotrichum genus, but only at higher application rates (>= 0.16 mu l/ml of air). According to the obtained data, it can be concluded that tested coriander accessions differ in essential oil content and composition, as well as in influence on mycelial growth. Coriander essential oil has potential for being applied as a biological control agent against these two fungi from Colletotrichum genus.

AB - Dill (Anethum graveolens L.) is an annual herbaceous plant from the Apiaceae family, with characteristic odor coming from an essential oil, whose main components are carvone and limonene. Dill's fruit and leaf, i.e. its aerial parts, are in common use. This plant is widely used for medicinal purposes and as a spice. In addition, it can be used in organic agriculture, chiefly to increase biodiversity by combining it with other crops, or grown as a protective crop. It was also found that allelochemicals produced by dill have herbicidal effect, while essential oil and extracts have fungicidal and insecticidal effect. Moreover, dill is used in animal nutrition as a natural growth promoter.

AB - Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) originated from Mediterranean area. His appearance is very similar to dill, but unlike it has a sweet taste and odor similar to anise. Fennel has two varieties: var. vulgare also called bitter, and var. dulce or sweet fennel. In organic farming has a much greater significance var. vulgare, which is a perennial species that are grown for fruit. The essential oil of the fruit has antifungal, virostatic, insecticidal and nematicidal properties, and is therefore very suitable for the synthesis of potential biopesticides that could have wide application in organic agriculture. Fennel in flowering produces large quantities of pollen and nectar, so it attracts a large number of beneficial insects for which it is often used for joint planting with other plants, but also as a buffer in organic agriculture. This plant has long been known as a healing, both in human medicine and in veterinary medicine and animal nutrition. Mainly used as a natural antibiotic and stimulator of growth, particularly in poultry, but has great significance in beekeeping, fish and sheep breeding.

Mainly used as a natural antibiotic and stimulator of growth, particularly in poultry, but has great significance in beekeeping, fish and sheep breeding.",

AB - Beet weevil (Bothynoderes punctiventris Germ.) is the most damaging pest of sugar beet in south-eastern Europe, from seedling emergence and in the first phases of crop development. Efficacy of insecticides (active ingredients of chlorpyriphos + bifenthrin, chlorpyriphos + beta-cyfluthrin and chlorpyriphos + cypermethrin) for the control of beet weevil was tested during 2010 and 2011 under laboratory and field conditions. A wet filter paper method (contact action) was employed in laboratory tests. Simultaneously, field trials were conducted (Curug, Rimski Sancevi, Budisava, Kovilj) (contact and digestive action). The trial was designed according to EPPO method and insecticide efficacy was tested in accordance with the pest biology and phenophase of the crop. Insecticide efficacy was calculated using Abbot's formula, and damage of plants was assessed using 0-5 scale. Commercial insecticide Nurelle D (active ingredient of chlorpyriphos + cypermethrin) maintained high contact and digestive action on beet weevil, although it has been in use for 20 years. Commercial insecticide Pyrinex Super (active ingredient of chlorpyriphos + bifenthrin), although with reduced content of chlorpyriphos by 30% and of bifenthrin by 20%, achieved efficacy that was at the same level of significance with Nurelle-D, regardless of the experimental conditions (laboratory or field). Compared to Nurelle-D, the product MCW 784 (chlorpyriphos + beta-cyfluthrin) had significantly lower initial efficacy 3 h after application in laboratory trial, and also 24 h after application in field trial.

AB - In plant protection a number of pesticide products, depending on formulation type, is applied previously diluted in water which differ in quality. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of water pH on pH value of spray liquids of fungicides (azoxystrobin, mancozeb), insecticides (thiamethoxam, cypermethrin), non-pesticide substances (complex fertiliser, adjuvant) and their mixtures. pH values of spray liquids were determined potentiometrically, immediately after preparation and after 24 h in the following waters: well water (Adice) - slightly alkaline (pH 7.90, 34.7 d degrees H, NO(2)2.5mg/l); tap water (Novi Sad) - neutral (pH 7.42, 15.4 d degrees H) and surface water (Sava) - slightly alkaline (pH 8.15, 11.7 d degrees H, NO2 0.18 mg/l, NH3 0.93 mg/l). Regardless of quality and pH of the water and pesticide compounds, pH value of spray liquids without complex fertiliser was in the range from 7.3 to 8.2 from application to 24 h. However, regardless of pH of water and pesticide compounds, all variants containing complex fertiliser had pH between 5.7 and 6.9, which points to possibility of correcting pH values of spray liquids with this fertiliser when the time of pesticide application coincides with fertilisation.

AB - Sensitivity of two field populations of Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata Say.) - CPB (Vilovo and Čurug) adults to insecticides were determined in 2008 and 2012. Bioassay was performed using screening test that allows rapid assessment of sensitivity of over wintered adults to insecticides. Sensitivity to four insecticides commonly used for CPB control in Serbia (chlorpyrifos, cypermethrin, thiamethoxam and fipronil) was assessed. Insecticides were applied at label rates, and two, five and 10 fold higher rates by soaking method. Insect mortality was assessed after 72 h. Sensitivity was assessed using a modified IRAC method (2009) and 1-5 scale. In 2008, both tested CPB populations were resistant to chlorpyrifos label rate, as well as in 2012. Both tested populations were also resistant to cypermethrin in 2008, while in 2012, population from Vilovo was resistant, and population from Čurug was moderately resistant. Significant differences in CPB sensitivity to thiamethoxam between populations tested in 2008 and 2012 were recorded.

AB - Colletotrichum acutatum and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides are important post harvest apple fruit pathogens in temperate regions. Seven Colletotrichum isolates obtained from apple fruits with anthracnose symptoms, and two reference isolates C. gloeosporioides AVO 37 4B (avocado, Israel) and C. actuatum TUT 137 A (strawberry, Israel) were investigated. Pathogenicity of all nine isolates was demonstrated on wound-inoculated apple fruits by fulfilling Koch's postulates. Investigated morphological characteristics involved shape, colour and margin of the colony, as well as conidial shape. Observed ecological parameters were growth and sporulation of isolates after 4, 7 and 11 days of incubation at temperatures of 15, 20, 23, 25, 27, 30, 32 and 35 degrees C and after 10 days of incubation under conditions of day light regime and dark. The isolates were identified by PCR using species-specific primers. The data regarding growth were processed by factorial and one way ANOVA using software Statistica 10. All seven isolates obtained from apple fruits and reference C. acutatum isolate formed velvety, gray colonies with slightly wavy margin, and one celled fusiform conidia on PDA medium. Mycelium of the reference isolate C. gloeosporioides AVO 37 4B was snow-white and conidia were cylindrical. Maximum mycelial growth rate for isolates obtained from apple fruits was at temperature of 23 degrees C, for reference isolate C. acutatum at 27 degrees C and for C. gloeosporioides at 23-27 degrees C. Temperature of 35 degrees C proved to be restrictive for C. acutatum isolates. Isolate C. gloeosporioides had the fastest growth rate compared to all other isolates. Using PCR with species-specific primers all eight isolates were identified as C. acutatum (fragments sized 490 bp were amplified), and one as C. gloeosporioides (fragments sized 450 bp were amplified). The results suggest that differentiation between the two Colletotrichum species based on several morphological and ecological parameters is possible.

AB - Isozymes as genetic markers were used for identification and genetic characterization of vegetable species such as cabbage, cauliflower, cucumber, carrot, tomato, and pepper. The following groups of marker systems were used: MDH, PGM, PHI and DIA with stable phenotypic expression. Certain genotypes were in the stage of seedling or seed. Polymorphism of the above mentioned systems was found in all the species analyzed which made possible the genetic identification of plant species and variability within them. These methods belonging to biochemical genetics were used for quality seed control. The results showed that, on the basis of these markers as direct gene products, certain pepper genotypes, activity and polymorphism (PHI, PGM, DIA) were found which pointed out genetically pure seed or some problems connected with quality traits.
