AB  - Institut za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo, institut od nacionalnog značaja za Republiku Srbiju, je deo konzorcijuma od 25 partnera iz 13 evropskih zemalja koji angažuje relevantne aktere u poljoprivredi u širenju i eksploataciji rezultata projekta i podsticanju međunarodne saradnje. Kroz angažovanje poljoprivredne zajednice, industrijskih aktera i akademske zajednice u tzv. studijama slučaja omogućena je razmena najboljih praksi, zajednički razvoj poslovnih planova, kao i podsticanje i kreiranje ideja i okruženja koje će doneti dobrobit svima. U tom kontekstu, projekat MIDAS (Upotreba marginalnih zemljišta za održivo gajenje industrijskog bilja i razvoj inovativnih bio proizvoda, Utilization of marginal lands for growing sustainable industrial crops and developing innovative bio-based products, broj 101082070), koji je finansiran iz okvirnog programa Horizont Evropa, realizuje aktivnosti za ostvarenje specifičnih ciljeva.

Characterization of buckwheat (Fagopyrum sp.) collection in Serbia

AB  - With the aim of optimizing the buckwheat assortment for the region of Serbia, field trials with 161 accessions of Fagopyrum sp. were set up in Backi Petrovac (45° 20' 12" N, 19° 40' 12" E) during 2023. In addition to 148 F. esculentum var. esculentum accessions, the phenotypic characterization of 30 ‘agromorphological characteristics also includes 7 var. emarginatum as well as 4 F. tataricum, 1. dibotrys and 1 F. ocutatum. Characterization of properties was carried out according to ECPGR Descriptors for buckwheat. The experiment, which was set up on May 10, was marked by extreme conditions that included high rainfall at the end of May, high temperatures at the end of June, storm at the end of July and high temperatures at the beginning of August. Such extreme conditions allowed test collection for tolerance to high temperatures and lodging. Within the analyzed collection, significant phenotypic variability was noted for all selected traits. Some of the traits were strongly affected by the extreme conditions such as high temperatures of over 40 °C during the generative phase of plant development which completely destroyed all accessions except F. esculentum, from which 26 were also significantly damaged. Additionally, a large part of the collection (93 accessions) showed a pronounced sensitivity to lodging and as such are not suitable for mechanized harvesting. Nineteen accessions showed partial lodging and they could be used with partial yield reduction.

Influence of two stink bug species (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) on soybean morphological traits

AB  - Abundance of Halyomorpha halys (Stål), the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB), and Nezara viridula (L.), the southern green stink bug (SGSB), after their introduction on the territory of Europe, has been constantly increasing. In order to assess potential damage, a set of trials was conducted in semi‐controlled, field conditions in isolation cages, 1 m in diameter and 1.8 m in height, during 2020 and 2021. Testing was done on five different soybean varieties that belong to 00‐III maturity groups (Fortuna, Romansa, Princeza, Sava and Senka). There were three types of treatments/cages, a control treatment without stink bugs (C), a treatment with BMSB specimens and a third treatment with SGSB specimens. In each isolation cage with stink bugs five specimens per plant were introduced. The results showed significant effects of stink bugs feeding on soybean plants. In 2020 the number of seeds per plant, average for all five varieties, was the highest in the C (118.9) while BMSB and SGSB treatments were with much less seeds (10.7 and 6.5 respectively).

AB  - Brojnost zelene povrtne stenice, Nezara viridula (L), i braon mramoraste stenice, Halyomorpha halys (Stål), od njihove pojave na teritoriji Evrope je u stalnom porastu. Ove dve polifagne vrste iz familije Pentatomidae pričinjavaju značajne štete u voćarskoj i povrtarskoj proizvodnji ali poslednjih godina i u ratarskoj proizvodnji, prvenstveno u proizvodnji soje. Imajući u vidu da su obe vrste relativno skoro introdukovane na područje Srbije podaci o njihovoj biologiji, potencijalnoj štetnosti i mogućnostima suzbijanja su malobrojni i nedovoljni. Da bi se ispitala njihova štetnost po usev soje izvedeni su ogledi u polukontrolisanim poljskim uslovima tokom 2018. i 2019. godine. Za procenu uticaja stenica na morfološke osobine soje postavljeni su kavezi za izolaciju, koji su se sastojali od metalne konstrukcije prečnika jedan metar i visine 1.8 metara, prekrivene platnom sa otvorima prečnika 1 mm. U svakom kavezu se nalazilo po 10 biljaka soje.

AB  - Klima je ponovo pokazala da je najznačajniji faktor u proizvodnji kukuruza. Dug beskišni period i izuzetno visoke temperature vazduha, pogotovo u generativnoj fazi, glavni su krivci niskih prinosa u 2022. godini. Ako se tome doda intenzivan napad insekata i kišovito, hladno vreme krajem vegetacije, nije neočekivano što smo zabeležili prinos znatno niži od višegodišnjeg proseka. Mere adaptacije, kao što su tehnologija proizvodnje i sortiment su snažne poluge u ublažavanju ekstremnih vremenskih prilika. Ipak, zbog izostanka adekvatne tehnologije kao i grešaka pri izboru sortimenta, pad prinosa je bio očekivan. U godinama pred nama, moramo menjati tehnološka rešenja i izbor hibrida bazirati na pouzdanim i potvrđenim podacima.

abstract = "Klima je ponovo pokazala da je najznačajniji faktor u proizvodnji kukuruza. Dug beskišni period i izuzetno visoke temperature vazduha, pogotovo u generativnoj fazi, glavni su krivci niskih prinosa u 2022. godini. Ako se tome doda intenzivan napad insekata i kišovito, hladno vreme krajem vegetacije, nije neočekivano što smo zabeležili prinos znatno niži od višegodišnjeg proseka. Mere adaptacije, kao što su tehnologija proizvodnje i sortiment su snažne poluge u ublažavanju ekstremnih vremenskih prilika. Ipak, zbog izostanka adekvatne tehnologije kao i grešaka pri izboru sortimenta, pad prinosa je bio očekivan. U godinama pred nama, moramo menjati tehnološka rešenja i izbor hibrida bazirati na pouzdanim i potvrđenim podacima.",

AB  - Recent European Union regulations aim at reducing the use of chemical pesticides in
agriculture. In sunflower production in Serbia, the use of synthetic insecticides for soil and seed
treatments has become a prevailing practice for wireworm (Coleoptera: Elateridae) control. However,
a number of compounds efficiently used as seed treatments have been phased out. This work aimed
at assessing the potential of an environmentally friendly “Attract and Kill” strategy (A&K) for
controlling wireworms in sunflower in comparison to conventional insecticides. The experiments
were carried out in 2018, 2019 and 2021 involving (a) soil treatments with ATTRACAP® and a Force
1.5 G; (b) seed treatments with Sonido, Force 20 CS, Lumiposa and Buteo Start 480 FS; (c) controls
(i.e., untreated seeds). The efficacy of the treatments was assessed based on the plant density and
emerging plant damage (%). A damage rating scale (levels 0–5) was created, aiming for a more reliable
and concrete interpretation of the results. Data were processed using binomial and multinomial
regressions, followed by modelling of the damage and calculating the odds of damage occurrence,
depending on the applied insecticide. In all experimental years and at all localities, the Force 20 CS
and/or Force 1.5 G treatments resulted in the highest plant density and the lowest percentage of plant
damage. ATTRACAP® showed good effectiveness, since plant density and percentage of damaged
plants were at the same level of significance as the commonly used conventional insecticides in
sunflower production (Sonido for seed treatment and Force 1.5 G for soil treatment). Thus, the
A&K strategy was efficient in controlling wireworms at conditions of low abundance, based on
three-year experimental results. Although the damage rating scale enabled a clear differentiation
of plant damage caused by wireworms responsible for reduced plant density, more reliable models
were obtained by binomial regressions, classifying plants as damaged or undamaged.

AB  - Wireworms are the larvae of click beetles (Coleoptera: Elateridae) and can be of great economic importance in agriculture, especially for production of row crops such as sunflower. They feed on underground plant parts causing a reduced crop stand. Young plants, up to three pairs of leaves, are at higher risk. Larvae can live from two to five years in the soil depending on the species. Although only larvae are treated as pests, monitoring and control of adults, click beetles, can contribute to reduction of damages caused by larvae in the following years. The objective of this research was to monitor the activity of click beetles and determine the most abundant species in the region of Novi Sad (Serbia). For this purpose Csalomon pheromone traps, type YF, were used with five different pheromones for collecting: Agriotes ustulatus, A. sputator, combined pheromones for A. rufipalpis + A. sordidus and A. lineatus + A. obscurus (males) and A. ustulatus (males + females, pheromone + floral bait). For every pheromone two traps were deployed on sunflower fields at Rimski šančevi, in the vicinity of Novi Sad, during 2018 and 2019.

AB  - The Spinose Skipper, Favria cribrellum (Eversmann, 1841) [formerly in Muschampia] is considered to be a very localised species in Eastern Europe occurring in only a small number of isolated colonies. Its ecology, especially relating to its host plant, has long remained unknown. Only in the last decade of research has more light been shed on the distribution and habitat requirements of this species in its western range. The host plant of the Spinose Skipper in the Republic of North Macedonia is revealed for the first time. Three eggs and three larvae were discovered in 2017 on a species of Potentilla, tentatively identified as P. detommasii, from a site near Govrlevo, SW of Skopje. The choice of a cinquefoil as a hostplant provides new evidence to support the species recent separation from the genus Muschampia.

AB  - Prekomerna upotreba pesticida poslednjih decenija uticala je izrazito negativno na mnoge organizme, a posebno na pčele. Medonosna pčela (Apis mellifera L.) postala je simbol ugroženosti insekata u svetu, ali i njihovog značaja. Međutim, mnogo manje pažnje posvećeno je drugim vrstama pčela, pogotovo solitarnim pčelama. Rađeni su mnogi ogledi koji su dokazali toksičnost različitih aktivnih materija na pčele, međutim većina ovih ogleda izvedena je na medonosnoj pčeli, dok je uticaj ovih supstanci na divlje vrste pčela mnogo manje poznat. U cilju detaljnih ispitivanja toksičnosti različitih insekticida, važno je koristiti i druge vrste pčela, ali najčešća prepreka je njihova nedostupnost na tržištu, kao i njihovo održavanje i umnožavanje u kontrolisanim i polukontrolisanim uslovima. Solitarne pčele (porodica Megachilidae), a posebno pčele voćnjaka Osmia cornuta (Latreille) i Osmia bicornis (L.) korišćene su kao polinatori mnogih biljnih kultura. Ove dve vrste su poznate kao dobri oprašivači voćaka, uljane repice, ali i mnogih drugih biljnih vrsta koje cvetaju u proleće.

AB  - Uljanu repicu oštećuje veliki broj insekata. U posebnu grupu spadaju oni koji oštećuju ljusku. Štetne su larve koje se hrane delovima ljuske i semenom izazivajući prerano otvaranje ljuski i osipanje semena. U radu će biti prikazani rezultati praćenja brojnosti larvi dve date vrste u ljuskama uljane repice od 2018. do 2022. godine na području Vojvodine na različitom broju lokaliteta. Ljuske su uzorkovane prema EPPO standardu (PP 1/220), a potom otvarane u laboratoriji radi utvrđivanja prisustva larvi i njihove determinacije.

Primena herbicida u usevu kukuruza pomoću bespilotne letelice

AB  - Razvojem novih tehnologija bespilotne letlice nalaze sve veću primenu u poljoprivredi, od mapiranja zemljišta, stanja useva i rasprostranjenosti štetnih organizama, do primene sredstava za zaštitu bilja. U odnosu na uobičajene letelice moderni bespilotni sistemi za tretmane nove generacije poseduju posebno projektovanu vazdušnu podršku, uz precizno vođenje tretmana sa veoma male visine, bez obzira na stepen vlažnosti zemljišta, nagib terena, visinu i gustinu useva i druga ograničenja. Na oglednim poljima Instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo na Rimskim šančevima, tokom 2021. godine, u usevu kukuruza ispitivana je mogućnosti primene herbicida pomoću savremene bespilotne letelice. U ogledima je ispitivana zajednička primena herbicida Equip (22,5 g/l foramsulfurona+22,5 g/l izoksadifen-etil) u količini 2 l/ha i Laudis (44 g/l tembotriona+22 g/l izoksadifen-etila) u količini 1,5 l/ha. Za primenu herbicida korišćena je bespilotna letelica DJI Agras T16 sa diznama TeeJet XR 11001 i to u prvom tretmanu sa 15 l/ha radne tečnosti, u drugom sa 20 l/ha radne tečnosti, dok su u trećem tretmanu herbicidi primenjeni leđnom prskalicom (Bellspray, Inc., USA) sa komprimovanim ugljen-dioksidom, diznama TeeJet XR11002, krilom radnog zahvata 3 m, pritiskom 2 bara i 200 l/ha radne tečnosti. Kukuruz je u vreme primene herbicida bio u fazi 15-16 BBCH skale, dok su od korova su bili prisutni: Amaranthus retroflexus L. (faze 14-18 BBCH skale), Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. (faze 14-16 BBCH skale), Chenopodium album L. (faze 14-16 BBCH skale), Datura stramonium L. (faze 12-16 BBCH skale), Solanum nigrum L. (faze 14-16 BBCH skale), Xantium strumarium L. (faze 14-16 BBCH skale) i Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers. iz semena (faze 12-18 BBCH skale) i rizoma (faze 12-18 BBCH skale). Ogled je postavljen po slučajnom blok sistemu u tri ponavljanja. Dimenzije osnovne parcele su bile 6x40 m.

AB  - The cabbage seedpod weevil (Ceutorhynchus assimilis Paykull) and the brassica pod midge (Dasineura brassicae Winnertz) are the most important pod pests of oilseed rape worldwide. Their occurrence as well as the damage they cause can vary depending on the locality and season. They cause damage by feeding on pieces of pods which can result in pod shattering. The monitoring of the cabbage seedpod weevil and the brassica pod midge was conducted during a five-year period, from 2015 to 2019, according to EPPO standards. The aim of the monitoring was to assess the damage potential of these two species and to determine whether chemical control is economically justified. The pods were taken from oilseed rape fields under different agro-climatic conditions and plant protection regimes and number of larvae were counted. The number of examined pods varied from 1600, in 2018, to 7700 in 2017.

AB  - In this study the effect of long term exposure to cadmium (Cd) on Ostrinia nubilalis larval growth, development, survival rate and oxidative status was analyzed. Newly hatched first instar - L1 larvae were reared on a Cd contaminated diet until the larvae reached the final, fifth instar - L5 or developed into pupae. In total, six experimental groups, five treatments (concentrations of Cd in fresh diet: Cd I: 0.73, Cd II: 3.70, Cd III: 6.85, Cd IV: 41.71 and Cd V: 77.53 mg kg(-1)) and a control group (C) were set up. The results of the experiment showed that exposure to higher concentrations of Cd (41.71 and 77.53 mg kg(-1)) had a significant influence on development and redox status of O. nubilalis larvae: (1) the development rate was strongly reduced resulting in a prolonged pupation time; (2) the survival rate of larvae was prominently lower; (3) bioaccumulation factor (measured in pupae) was reduced which indicated that larvae could accumulate Cd to a certain level; (4) the level of the lipid peroxidation was significantly higher, which points to oxidative damage; (5) the expression of Mtn was significantly up-regulated while Cat and GPx genes down-regulated. In conclusion, long term exposure to dietary Cd in a concentration of 41.7 mg kg(-1) and higher, induced oxidative stress and slowed down growth and development of O. nubilalis larvae.

AB  - The ability of commercial bumblebees to transfer Clonostachys rosea spores as a biocontrol agent (BVT-CR7 strain) from the hive to sunflower heads for the control of Sclerotinia head rot was studied during 2016 and 2017 in field trials. The bumblebee hives were placed in isolation cages before flowering and allowed to adapt to the new environment. The bumblebee activity in 2016 was significantly lower in the confined space compared with colonies in the open field, while in 2017 their activity was similar at all sites. Artificial inoculation with Sclerotinia sclerotiorum ascospores was done at full bloom, and end of flowering. Floret samples collected at the end of the flowering period confirmed the presence of C. rosea in treated plants (7.4%). The presence of S. sclerotiorum was lower (up to 30%) than in the control heads, confirming efficacy of the treatment. Statistical tests showed that the difference in disease incidence was highly significant between successive evaluations. Mean disease incidence was 2, 13 and 57% when the biocontrol agent was present compared to 6, 26 and 68% in the controls. Seed samples showed that seed yield, 1000 seed weight, hectoliter mass and seed germination were increased in the treated plants for 11, 1, 3 and 6%, respectively. These results indicate that bumblebees can be used as efficient vectors of C. rosea spores to sunflowers for the suppression of Sclerotinia head rot and the added benefits of insect-mediated pollination.

The results of the experiment showed that exposure to higher concentrations of Cd (41.71 and 77.53 mg kg(-1)) had a significant influence on development and redox status of O. nubilalis larvae: (1) the development rate was strongly reduced resulting in a prolonged pupation time; (2) the survival rate of larvae was prominently lower; (3) bioaccumulation factor (measured in pupae) was reduced which indicated that larvae could accumulate Cd to a certain level; (4) the level of the lipid peroxidation was significantly higher, which points to oxidative damage; (5) the expression of Mtn was significantly up-regulated while Cat and GPx genes down-regulated. In conclusion, long term exposure to dietary Cd in a concentration of 41.7 mg kg(-1) and higher, induced oxidative stress and slowed down growth and development of O. nubilalis larvae.",

Fungal biodiversity on maize kernels in an insecticide evaluation trial

AB  - The European corn borer (ECB) Ostrinia nubilalis and Fusarium ear rot Fusarium spp. pose a continuous threat to maize production worldwide. There are several reports indicating that ECB damage to maize ears promotes Fusarium ear rot infection. The aim of this study was to monitor the influence of different insecticide treatments (a.i. chlorantraniliprole, indoxacarb, and chlorantraniliprole+lambda-cyhalothrin) on the ECB and fungal diversity on maize kernels in the field in a four-year trial (2013-2016). A total of 16 different fungal genera were isolated from maize kernels, and Fusarium species were confirmed to be the dominant pathogens, present in all treatments, throughout the four years of experiments. The incidence of Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp. was established to be low. Apart from Fusarium species, the most frequent genera were: Aspergillus spp., Mortierella spp., Mucor spp., Penicillium spp., Acremonium spp. and Rhizopus spp. Treatments with chlorantraniliprole and chlorantraniliprole+lambda-cyhalothrin showed higher efficacy, though not statistically significant, compared to indoxacarb, in reducing the number of ECB larvae and damage they cause. However, no direct effect on the number of isolated fungal genera has been observed in any of the three insecticide treatments.
AB  - Kukuruzni plamenac (Ostrinia nubilalis) i fuzariozna trulež klipa (Fusarium spp.) pričinjavaju najveće štete u proizvodnji kukuruza. Postoji nekoliko istraživanja koja su potvrdila da, svojom ishranom, larve kukuruznog plamenca doprinose i razvoju fuzarioznih plesnivosti na oštećenjima zrna i klipa kukuruza. Stoga je glavni cilj ovih četvorogodišnjih istraživanja bio da se odredi efikasnost insekticidnih tretmana na smanjenje brojnosti larvi kukuruznog plamenca, kao i njihov uticaj na diverzitet gljiva na zrnima kukuruza. Ukupno 16 različitih rodova gljiva je identifikovano u uzorcima zrna kukuruza tokom četvorogodišnjeg perioda istraživanja. Fusarium vrste su registrovane u svim tretmanima tokom sve četiri godine istraživanja, i svojim procentualnim učešćem potvrdile da su najdominantniji patogeni zrna kukuruza. Pojava vrsta rodova Aspergillus i Penicillium u uzorcima zrna kukuruza je bila slaba. Vrste koje su često bile registrovane zajedno sa Fusarium spp. na zrnima kukuruza su bile: Aspergillus spp., Mortierella spp., Mucor spp., Penicillium spp., Acremonium spp. i Rhizopus spp. Tretmani sa hlorantraniliprolom i hrorantraniliprol+lambda-cihalotrinom su pokazali veću efikasnost, ali ne i statistički značajnu, u odnosu na indoksakarb u smanjenju broja larvi kukuruznog plamenca. Takođe, i pored manjeg broja vrsta registrovanih u ova dva tretmana, nije uočen statistički značajan uticaj ni jednog ispitivanog tretmana na broj rodova gljiva prisutnih u uzorcima.
