Field performance of abnormal maize seedlings

AB  - The aim of this study was to investigate field emergence parameters, number of plants that reached reproductive stage and yield of seed lots with different count of abnormal seedlings. In standard germination test these seedlings are discarded from the count of germinated seed, presuming that they will not develop into normal plants. Five lots of hybrid NS 640 with different percentage of abnormal seedlings were tested. Results showed that in favourable environment conditions, large number of abnormal seedlings emerged, reached reproductive stage and participated in yield formation. However, emergence of seed lots with high percentage of abnormal seedlings was longer than for lots with small number of abnormal seedlings. Laboratory germination and germination energy were more correlated with indicators of field emergence rate, while total percentage of germinated seedlings (normal and abnormal) was more correlated with grain yield. However, it can be expected that in adverse environment conditions, abnormal seedlings are less likely to develop into normal plants.
AB  - Cilj ovog ispitivanja bio je da se kod partija semena sa različitim udelom atipičnih ponika ispitaju parametri brzine klijanja u polju, broj biljaka u reproduktivnoj fazi i prinos. Ovakvi ponici se u standardnom testu klijavosti ne ubrajaju u klijava zrna, jer se pretpostavlja da neće dati normalnu biljku. Testirano je pet partija hibrida NS 640 sa različitim udelom atipičnih ponika. Rezultati su pokazali da je u povoljnim uslovima veliki broj atipičnih klijanaca nikao, dostigao reproduktivnu fazu i učestvovao u formiranju prinosa. Sa druge strane, nicanje partija sa velikim brojem atipičnih klijanaca je bilo usporeno. Laboratorijska klijavost i energija klijanja su bile u većoj korelaciji sa parametrima brzine nicanja, dok je ukupna klijavost (normalni i atipični klijanci) bila u većoj korelaciji sa prinosom. Ipak, u nepovoljnim uslovima spoljašnje sredine, atipični klijanci imaju manje šanse da se razviju u normalnu biljku.

Suitability of different maize hybrids for development of Plodia interpunctella (Hübner)

AB  - Plodia interpunctella (Hübner), the Indian meal moth (IMM), is a major lepidopteran storage pest worldwide. IMM larvae can be found in high abundance in stored maize and cause huge losses in seed germination and seed viability. This work aimed to assess the susceptibility of six maize hybrids (NS 6140, NS 640, NS 1090, NS 444 - dent type, NS 620k - pop-corn type, Red-aleurone maize - maize with an altered aleuron color) to IMM attack and suitability for pest's development. Standard laboratory diet (SLD) was used as a positive control. Under laboratory conditions, the following IMM life history parameters were monitored: larval mortality, mean developmental duration (egg to adult), adult emergence, adult lifespan and female fecundity. Kernel susceptibility was determined based on the Susceptibility Index (SI). The highest mortality of IMM larvae was on NS 620k (35.25%) compared to the other maize hybrids (11.2-19.5%). The highest number of emerged adults was on Red-aleurone maize (17.5), and the lowest on NS 620k (4.0). The longest lifespan was recorded for moths reared on NS 6140 and NS 640 (8.5 and 8.7 days, respectively). The highest female fecundity was on SLD (115.8 eggs), on Red-aleurone maize (44.3 eggs), while females reared on NS 620k laid the lowest number of eggs (22.8 eggs). Moths reared on NS 620k had the shortest body sizes (0.9 cm), which indicated reduced moths fitness. SI showed that Redaleurone maize (SI=7.79) was the most susceptible to IMM attack, while NS 620k (SI=3.08) was the least susceptible.
AB  - Plodia interpunctella (Hübner), bakrenasti moljac (BM), jedna je od značajnijih štetočina u skladištima širom sveta. BM larve se mogu naći u velikom broju u skladištenom kukuruzu, što uzrokuje ogromne gubitke u vidu smanjenja klijavosti i vitalnosti semena. Cilj rada je da se proceni pogodnost (podložnost) šest hibrida kukuruza (NS 6140, NS 640, NS 1090, NS 444 - tip zubana, NS 620k - tip kokičara, Crveni kukuruz - tip kukuruza sa izmenjenom, crvenom bojom aleurona) za razvoj BM. Standardna laboratorijska podloga (SLP) korišćena je kao kontrola. U laboratorijskim uslovima praćeni su sledeći parametri: smrtnost larvi, srednje vreme razvića (od jaja do leptira), eklozija leptira, dužina života leptira i fekunditet ženki. Osetljivost/podložnost zrna određena je na osnovu indeksa osetljivosti (SI). Najveća smrtnost BM larvi zabeležna je na NS 620k (35,25%), u poređenju sa drugim hibridima kukuruza (11,2-19,5%). Najveći broj eklodiranih leptira bio je na Crvenom kukuruzu (17,5), a najniži na NS 620k (4,0). Najduži životni vek zabeležen je kod leptira odgajanih na NS 6140 i NS 640 (8,5 dana, odnosno 8,7 dana). Najveći fekunditet su imale ženke odgajane na SLP (115,8 jaja), dok je među hibridima kukuruza najviši bio na Crvenom kukuruzu (44,3 jaja), a najmanji broj jaja položile su ženke sa NS 620k (22,8 jaja). Assessment stability of maize lines yield by gge-biplot analysis

AB  - Maize genotypes have varied reactions in different localities, years, treatments or the combination of these factors, due to genotype x year interaction. The objective of this study was to estimate genotype by locality, by year, by treatments (GxLxYxT) interaction using AMMI model, to identify maize genotypes with stable and high yield performance in different growing seasons. The trials with seven maize lines/genotypes were conducted during two years (2010-2011) at the four treatments and two locations: Pancevo and Zemun Polje. The results showed that the influence of: genotype (G), locality (L), treatment (T) and GxL, GxT, YxL, YxT, LXT, GxYxT, GxLxT, YxLxT, GxYxLxT interaction, on maize yield were significant (p lt 0.01). The share of genotype for maize grain yield in the total phenotypic variance was 21.16%, the aggregate share of the years and the locality was 6.10%, the treatment was 18.22%, and the total interaction was 54.52%. The AMMI analysis of the main components of IPCA1 and IPCA2 for the interaction of GxL and GxT shows that the first major component, IPCA1, comprises 100% of the sum of the squared interaction GxL and showed a statistically significant effect. The results also show that the sums of the squares of the first and second major components (PC1 and PC2) constitute 100% of the sum of the squared interaction GxL. The IPCA1 share in the GxT interaction was 47.39% and the IPC2 was 37.94%. IPC1 and IPC2 for this interaction was 85.33%. A high level of IPC2 indicates a significant treatment effect. The results of AMI analysis show that there is a significant difference between the genotype reactions to different ecological conditions for investigated factors. It also provided better insight in specific association between maize grain yield, locality, treatment and meteorological variables. Among the tested maize lines/genotypes, L-5, L-4 and L-6 could be separated as highest yielding genotypes, however L-5 could be recommended for further breeding program and in large-scale seed production due to its stable and high yielding performance.

AB  - Đubrenje soje, posebno azotom, kao leguminozne biljke kontinuirano predstavlja istraživacki izazov. Primena mikroelemenata, kobalta i molibdena utiče stimulativno na intezitet azotofiksacije, a time i na prinos. Tehnologija gajenja soje u uslovima bez navodnjavanja, uz najbolju agrotehniku na kraju rezultira prinosima koji su pod direktnim uticajem specifičnih agroekoloških uslova. Istraživanje je obavljeno na višegodišnjem stacionarnom ogledu na parcelama Instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo. Ogled je bio koncipiran kao tropolje (kukuruz-soja-pšenica). Rezultati obuhvaéeni u ovom istraživanju preuzeti su sa polja soje u periodu 2006-2008. godine. Cilj istraživanja bio je da se utvrdi uticaj vremenskih i zemljišnih uslova, đubrenja preduseva azotom, kao i primene kobalta i molibdena na prinos soje. Podaci su obrađeni analizom varijanse po metodi dvofaktorijalnog split-plot ogleda sa uticajem godine. Značajnost razlike izmedu tretmana testirana je LSD testom. Najviši prinos postignut je u poslednjoj godini istraživanja. Primena najveće doze đubrenja pretkulture (kukuruza) azotom, kad nisu zaorani žetveni ostaci doprinelo je povećanju prinosa za 3,73%. Međutim, to nije bilo dovoljno da bi bilo statistički značajno, kao ni primena kobalta i molibdena nanošenjem na seme uz standardno nanošenje Nitragina.
AB  - Soybean fertilization, especially nitrogen, as well as leguminous plants pose an ongoing research challenge. Application of microelements, cobalt and molybdenum stimulating influence on the intensity of nitrogen fixation, and thus the yield. The technology of growing soybeans in conditions without irrigation, agricultural technology with the best in the end results in yields that are under the direct influence of specific agro-ecological conditions. The survey was conducted on a multi-year stationary trial plots at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops. The experiment was designed as a three-crop rotation (corn-soybean- wheat). The results included in this study are taken from the fields of soy in the period 2006-2008. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of weather and soil conditions, crop nitrogen fertilization, and application of cobalt and molybdenum on soybean yields. Data were analysed using analysis of variance using the method of two factorial split-plot design with the impact of the year. The significance of differences between treatments was tested LSD test. The highest yield was achieved in the last year of the study. The application of the highest dose of fertilizer preculture (corn) with nitrogen when they are not ploughed crop residue contributed to the increase in the yield of 3.73%. However, it was not enough to be statistically significant, nor the use of cobalt and molybdenum seed treatment with standard dispensing Nitragin.

Podaci su obrađeni analizom varijanse po metodi dvofaktorijalnog split-plot ogleda sa uticajem godine. Značajnost razlike izmedu tretmana testirana je LSD testom. AB  - The aim of the research was to test the effect of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) on soybean seed germination and yield depending on specific field conditions, years of study, exposure duration and frequency. Field trial was conducted on an experimental field of Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad, Serbia in 2010-2013. Seeds of the soybean (Glycine hispida (Moench)) medium-early cultivar. Valjevka 'were exposed to the PEMF therapy using the impulse generator and strip. Low-frequency (16, 24, 30 and 72 Hz) PEMF was used in the duration of 0, 30, 60 and 90 minutes. Research results indicate that this method can increase seed germination up to 8.00% and yield by 960.5 kg, or 21% in field conditions, which is a significant increase and a solid basis to introduce this practice, primarily in organic production with a very limited use of seed treatment preparations. However, the practice can have an inhibitory effect under an unfavourable combination of exposure duration and frequency. The obtained data were processed using the analysis of variance of three-factorial trials considering all years of study. Due to different meteorological conditions in the study years, analysis of variance was conducted for each year of study and correlations between the tested traits were examined.

First Report of Fusarium tricinctum Causing Rot of Garlic Bulbs in Serbia

AB  - Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is widely cultivated in Serbia, covering more than 7,000 ha, mostly concentrated in the northern part of country, Vojvodina Province. During 2016, infected garlic bulbs occurred in storage and warehouses in several localities of Vojvodina Province. Garlic bulbs and cloves were softened, spongy, or sunken, and covered with white, light pink, or reddish fungal growth (mycelium). Fifty samples of symptomatic garlic bulbs were taken, surface disinfested in 1% NaOCl for 2 to 3 min, followed by three serial washings of sterilized distilled water and dried under aseptic conditions. Pieces (3 to 4 mm) excised from clove tissue were transferred on potato dextrose agar (PDA) and incubated for 7 days at 25°C in the dark. After 7 days, all isolates were examined morphologically and the fungal isolate was cleaned up by subculturing successively and selected by single-spore isolation. A pathogenicity test was conducted with 21 Fusarium isolates by inoculation of five garilc cloves cv. Bosut, previously sterilized in 0.5% NaOCl for 60 s, rinsed four times in sterilized distilled water, and wounded to a depth of 4 mm (Palmero et al. 2012). The five wounded cloves were inoculated with each fungal isolate and incubated in a growth chamber at 25°C until symptoms of rot appeared. All isolates were reisolated from artificially inoculated garlic cloves, completing Koch’s postulates. Colony morphology was recorded from cultures grown on PDA and carnation leaf agar (CLA) (Castañares et al. 2011; Leslie and Summerell 2006). One isolate, when grown on PDA, rapidly produced abundant, dense, white, aerial mycelium that became pink with age and formed red pigments in the medium. On CLA, macroconidia were abundant, relatively slender, curved to lunate, and three to five septate. Microconidia were abundant, napiform, oval or pyriform, zero to one septate, and commonly clustered in false heads. Chlamydospores were absent. On the basis of fungal morphology, the fungus was identified as Fusarium tricinctum (Corda) Saccardo (Gerlach and Nirenberg 1982). To confirm the morphological identification, total genomic DNA was extracted from the mycelium of the 21 isolates with a DNeasy Plant Mini Kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany). Following DNA extraction, the translation elongation factor 1-alpha region was amplified by PCR with the primer pair EF1 and EF2 (Geiser et al. 2004). The sequences were compared with those in GenBank. The TEF sequence (accession no. KX611146) showed 100% similarity with several F. tricinctum sequences (e.g., HM068307, EU744838, and EU744837). Based on the completion of Koch’s postulates and sequence analysis, to our knowledge, this is the first report of F. tricinctum causing pink rot of garlic bulbs in Serbia. This species is known to produce mycotoxins severe for human health and monitoring of storage garlic in Serbia is continued.

AB  - Phacelia has been used for seed production and as a forage crops, either on its own or in a mix
with peas or vetch to provide forage and honey production as a source of high quality nectar
and pollen. The experiment was carried out in 2016, in the fields of the Institute of Field and
Vegetable Crops in Bački Petrovac, in Serbia, with variety NS Priora. NS Priora had plant
flowering continualy over 60 days and had high, good quality grain yield. NS Priora variety
had average nitrogen content is 3.21%, protein content was 20.06% and the average thousand
seeds weight was 1.42 g. Phacelia is presently very intensively used in organic agriculture and
for sowing of arable land temporarily excluded from production which achieves high yields.

AB  - Sorghum as a crop species has specific physiological predisposition for tolerance to unfavorable environmental conditions and has the ability to convert solar energy into biomass with high efficiency. The average mass of stem was 175.16 g. Genotype Dale had lower mass of stem compared to genotype NS sweet corn. Average panicle length was 18.20 cm. Genotype Dale had a longer panicle compared to the genotype NS sweet corn. The difference in length panicle between the genotypes NS corn sweet and Dala was not statistically significant. There is an evident correlation between the components of morphological characteristics: mass of stem, panicle length and environmental conditions. AB  - Technological quality of wheat is defined by physical and chemical indicators of quality and its baking properties. To make wheat a commodity, there are certain requirements to be met, defined by minimum values of trade quality indicators. As hexaploid wheat, spelt (Triticum spelta L.) belongs to a group of alternative cereal grains high in gluten, and its flour is therefore used for making most pastries. Due to its high nutritional value, spelt flour is used to enhance the quality or flavour of wheat bread and other bakery products. Two-year research was conducted during 2011 and 2012 to investigate protein content in crops grown on the Eutric Cambisol soil type. The research was conducted on two spelt cultivars: Hungarian Ekö 10 and Serbian NS Nirvana. The results showed that NS Nirvana averaged a statistically significantly higher proteins content (16.76%) than Hungarian cultivar Ekö 10 (15.65%). Climatic factors, temperatures, the intensity of light and duration of seed filling had an impact on the investigated parameter.
AB  - Tehnološki kvalitet pšenice definisan je fizičkim i hemijskim pokazateljima kvaliteta i pecivnim osobinama. Da bi pšenica bila predmet trgovine potrebno je da zadovoljava određene uslove koji su definisani minimalnim vrednostima pokazatelja prometnog kvaliteta. Heksaploidna pšenica krupnik (Triticum spelta L.) pripada grupi alternativnih žita koja ima visok sadržaj glutena, te se od njegovog brašna uspešno pravi većina peciva. Zahvaljujući visokoj hranljivoj vrednosti brašno krupnika koristi se kao poboljšavač kvaliteta i ukusa pšeničnog hleba i drugih hlebno-pekarskih proizvoda. Dvogodišnja istraživanja izvedena su tokom 2011. i 2012. godine u cilju ispitivanja sadržaja proteina na zemljištu tipa gajnjača. An agro-technological characterization of south-eastern European broomcorn landraces

AB  - Comprehensive overview of the extent genetic diversity in South-East European landrace collection was estimated regard broadening of broomcorn (Sorghum bicolor [L]. Moench) germplasm variability. In a long-term field trials 28 accessions were analyzed to determine variability of agronomic (unthreshed panicle weight UTP, threshed panicle weight TRP, grain yield per panicle SWG and threshed panicle ratio RAN), morphological (plant height PHG, stalk height SHG, panicle length PLG, peduncle length PDL, flag leaf sheath length LSL and panicle exsertion PEX) and technological (fiber length FLG, fiber number per panicle NOP and fiber fineness FFI) traits. By all obtained results combining over univariate and multivariate analysis, the study showed significant variability over traits, so the examined landraces will be included in existing broomcorn germplasm. Accessories with valuable quantitative and qualitative characters can significantly contribute to improvement of new bred cultivars and broadening germplasm diversity. Three years field experiment showed significant positive correlations between PHG-SHG, PDL-PEX and UTP-SWG and significant negative correlations between PDL-FLG and SWG-RAN. The performance of examined landraces were generally within the ambit of broomcorn germplasm variability, but several accessions with the extreme trait profile for yield components and panicle quality will be useful as parents in the breeding process.

Soybean seed germination and initial seedling growth as affected by seed size

AB  - Soybean seed size can have a major effect on the quality of seeds. Beside the effect that seed size has on 1000-grain weight, it can also affect other seed quality parameters. Some authors suggest it can be expected that larger seeds have better quality. Seeds with higher content of reserve nutrients provide better developed plants, so it is possible to expect higher yields. Since the soybean seed does not have the minimum dimension of certified seed prescribed by law, it is necessary to examine the minimum size of seed that gives good enough results at planting, growth and development of plants. On the basis of these indicators, set up of cleaners and selection of work sieves cleaners during processing of soybean seed should be accessed. Soybean has a roundish shape, so it is possible to calibrate by a simple procedure using sieves of different sizes and openings. The effect of certain sizes on the soybean seed germination and initial growth of seedlings of varieties which are characterized by different seed sizes was tested in this work. On that occasion the varieties Balkan, Victoria and Trijumf, which were developed at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops in Novi Sad were used. Dry matter content in the plant was used as an indicator of initial seedling growth. It was found that the dry matter content of seedlings increases with larger sizes, compared to dry matter content of smaller sizes. Thus, the lowest value was recorded in the variety Trijumf, for the size of 4.0 to 4.5 mm 4.7 g, while the highest value was recorded also in the variety Trijumf for the size of 6.0 to 6.5 mm 8.1 g. In addition, it was observed that the germination of seed of different sizes has different values. The lowest values were recorded in Balkan variety for the size of 4.0 to 4.5 mm 64%, while the highest germination was recorded in the variety Victoria for the size of 5.5 to 6.0 mm 85%.
AB  - Krupnoća semena soje može da ima veliki uticaj na kvalitet semena. Pored toga što veličina zrna utiče na masu hiljadu zrna, takođe može da utiče i na druge parametere kvaliteta semena. Literaturni izvori navode na zaključak da se može očekivati da je krupnije seme kvalitetnije. Seme sa većim sadržajem rezervnih hranljivih materija daje razvijeniju biljku pa je moguće očekivati i veće prinose. S obzirom da kod semena soje nije zakonom propisana minimalna dimenzija deklarisanog semena, potrebno je ispitati koja minimalna dimenzija semena daje dovoljno dobre rezultate u setvi, porastu i razvoju biljke. Na osnovu tih pokazatelja bi trebalo pristupiti podešavanju prečistača i odabiru radnih sita prečistača tokom dorade semena soje. Seme soje ima okruglast oblik pa je moguće kalibraciju uraditi jednostavnim postupkom pomoću sita različitih dimenzija i otvora. U radu je ispitan uticaj određenih frakcija na klijavost semena soje i početnog porasta ponika za sorte koje se karakterišu različitom krupnoćom zrna. Tom prilikom su korišćene sorte Balkan, Victoria i Trijumf, koje su stvorene u Institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo iz Novog Sada. Kao pokazatelj početnog porasta ponika korišćen je sadržaj suve materije u biljci. Utvrđeno je da se sadržaj suve materije ponika povećava kod krupnijih frakcija u odnosu na sadržaj suve materije kod sitnijih frakcija.Tako je najmanja vrednost zabeležena kod sorte Trijumf za frakciju 4,0-4,5 mm od 4,7 g, dok je najveća vrednost zabeležena takođe kod sorte Trijumf za frakciju 6,0-6,5 mm od 8,1g. AB  - On the basis of experience from practice, it is observed certain level of disagreement between results of laboratory germination test (ISTA) and filed emergency of soybean. This research should evaluate and validate power of prediction of standard laboratory test of soybean seed germination. Experiment included three soybean varieties from three seed lots. Sample from each lot were sieve fractionated and obtained five sub-samples of different seed size. From each subsample, laboratory germination were determinates, and all subsamples were planted in the field for field emergency evaluation. It was observed influence of thousand seed weight (TSW) on results of laboratory germination test, where the highest germination was observed for TSW between 165 and 172g. This relation was not confirmed in field experiment. In order to sample the predictive power lab test, considered the absolute difference between the lab germination and field emergence (delta).

AB  - The objective of this paper was to examine and present the results of soybean grain yield, protein and oil content during a two-year period (2009 to 2010) in agro-ecological conditions of Sombor, Serbia. Data were statistically analyzed by analysis of variance, using the method of two factorial trials (variety, year). LSD was used to compare means for significant differences. Significantly higher yields were recorded in 2010 compared to 2009. Average yield amounted to 4,196 kg ha-1 for analyzed soybean varieties, and ranged from 2,889 kg ha-1 (2009) to 5,503 kg ha-1 (2010). The year 2010 was favourable for protein synthesis. The highest protein content was achieved by Bečejka variety (38.38%) and Proteinka variety (38.33%) in 2010. Proteinka had statistically significantly higher average protein content compared to other tested varieties in the two-year average. The tested soybean varieties had average oil content of 20.93%. The highest oil content was found in Sava variety (23.03%) in 2009. Statistically significantly higher oil content was recorded in 2009 compared to 2010, while variety and their interactions had statistically significant effect (p  lt 0.05, p  lt 0.01) on yield and grain quality of soybean. Irrigation and appropriate cultural practices are the only measures that could mitigate limitation factors and increase yields.
AB  - U dvogodišnjim istraživanjima prikazani su rezultati prinosa zrna, sadržaja proteina i ulja u NS sortama soje. Podaci su obrađeni analizom varijanse po metodi dvofaktorijalnog ogleda (sorta, godina). Značajnost razlika testirana je LSD testom. Statistički značajno viši prinosi zabeleženi su 2010. u odnosu na 2009. godinu. Prosečni prinosi, za testirane sorte soje, iznosili su 4.154 kg ha-1 i varirali su od 2.840 kg ha-1 (2009) do 5.467 kg ha-1 (2010). Povoljnija godina za sintezu proteina bila je 2010. Najviši sadržaj proteina u 2010. ostvarile su u proseku sorte Bečejka (38,38%) i Proteinka (38,33%). Sadržaj proteina za sve ispitivane sorte soje iznosio je u proseku 37,03%. Sorta Proteinka imala je, u dvogodišnjem proseku, statistički značajno viši prosečan sadržaj proteina u odnosu na ostale testirane sorte. Prosečan sadržaj ulja, za sve testirane sorte soje, iznosio je 20,93%. Najviši sadržaj ulja u 2009. godini ostvarila je u sorta Sava (23,03%). Statistički značajno viši sadržaj ulja zabeležen je u 2009. u odnosu na 2010. Godina, sorta i njihove interakcije imale su statistički značajan uticaj (p lt 0,05, p lt 0,01) na prinos i kvalitet zrna soje. AB  - The aim of this study was to determine the most-yielding NS soybean varieties for the agro-ecological conditions of Pancevo area in Serbia. This paper presents the analysis results of yield and plant height of eight NS soybean varieties of I maturity group. Average yield for these soybean varieties was 3,701 kg / ha. NS Maximus recorded significantly higher yield than other tested varieties, except the line NS-L-210391. Line NS-L-414260 achieved significantly higher plant height compared to the other tested varieties, p lt 0.05 and line NS-L-210391 achieved significantly higher first pod height than variety NS Maximus and line NS-L-510001. Statistically significant differences in yield are evident, depending on the cultivated genotypes. All analyzed NS varieties achieved high yields and suitable for growing on the site of Pancevo.
AB  - Cilj istraživanja bio je da se odrede najprinosnije NS sorte soje za agroekološke uslove Pančeva. U radu su prikazani rezultati prinosa i visine biljaka, osam NS sorti soje, I grupe zrenja (GZ). Prosečni prinosi za ispitivane sorte soje iznosili su 3.701 kg/ha i beleže stabilnost (CV=12,84 %). Sorta NS Maximus imala je signifikantno viši prinos u odnosu na testirane sorte (p lt 0.05), izuzev linije NS-L-210391. Linija NS-L-414260 imala je signifikantno višu visinu biljke u odnosu na ostale testirane sorte, p lt 0.05 dok je linija NS-L-210391 imala signifikantno višu visinu prve mahune u odnosu na sortu NS Maximus i liniju NS-L-510001. Evidentne su statistički značajne razlike u prinosima u zavisnosti od gajenog genotipa (p lt 0.05). Sve testirane NS sorte soje ostvarile su visoke prinose i pogodne su za gajenje na lokalitetu Pančevo.

Effect of foliar nutrition on soybean yield and quality in organic production

AB  - Organic agricultural production recorded a continuous growth in output and demand, globally speaking, in order to meet consumer needs for quality and safe food. The plots of the Institute for Field and Vegetable Crops in Bački Petrovac, the experiment performed soybean for method in organic production, in four replications in 2011. This paper studied the influence of foliar nutrition, with microbial fertilizer on the yield and chemical composition of grain, soybean varieties in NS Galina. We studied the following properties: soybean yield (kg/ha), content (%) and yield (kg/ha) of total protein and oil content of soybeans. Have been achieved very high yields of soybean in 5,746 amounted to an average kg/ha. Yields ranged from 5,604 kg/ha in the control variant to 5,887 kg/ha for foliar feeding options. Average grain yield was higher in the variants of foliar feeding of 283 kg/ha or 5.05% compared to the control variant. Differences defined in oil content soybean material between the control and foliar nutrition were not statistically significant, while the protein content was the same in both variants. Higher protein and oil yield in the was recorded as either a foliar nutrition. Were done, the values of the correlation coefficient between the studied traits. There was a significantly high positive correlation between yield and oil content (0.73**) and a negative correlation between yield and protein content (-0.35) and between oil and protein content in soybean (-0.45). The organic production of soybean foliar nutrition proved to be a successful method for improving the yield of soybean. Research to be continued.
AB  - Organska poljoprivredna proizvodnja beleži kontinuirani rast obima proizvodnje i tražnje posmatrano u globalnim okvirima, u cilju zadovoljenja potreba potrošača za kvalitetnom i zdravstveno bezbednijom hranom. Na parcelama Instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo, u Bačkom Petrovcu, izveden je ogled soje po metodama organske proizvodnje, u četiri ponavljanja, 2011. godine. U radu je proučavan uticaj folijarne ishrane sa mikrobiološkim đubrivom na prinos i hemijski sastav zrna, kod NS sorte Galina. Ispitivana su sledeća svojstva: prinos zrna soje (kg/ha), sadržaj (%) i prinos (kg/ha) ukupnih proteina i ulja u zrnu soje. Ostvareni su izuzetno visoki prinosi soje i u proseku su iznosili 5.746 kg/ha. Prinosi su varirali od 5.604 kg/ha u kontrolnoj varijanti do 5.887 kg/ha u varijanti folijarne ishrane. Prinos zrna soje u proseku bio je viši u varijanti folijarne ishrane za 283 kg/ha ili za 5,05 % u odnosu na kontrolnu varijantu. Definisane razlike sadržaja ulja u zrnu soje između kontrolnog materijala i folijarne ishrane nisu statistički značajne, dok je sadržaj proteina bio isti u obe varijante. Odrađene su vrednosti koeficijenta korelacije između ispitivanih svojstava. Zabeležena je pozitivna visoko statistički značajna korelacija između prinosa i sadržaja ulja (0,73**) i negativna korelacija između prinosa i sadržaja proteina (-0,35) kao i između sadržaja ulja i sadržaja proteina u zrnu soje (-0,45). U organskoj proizvodnji soje folijarna ishrana pokazala se kao moguć metod za poboljšanje prinosa soje. Ispitivanje treba nastaviti.

We studied the following properties: soybean yield (kg/ha), content (%) and yield (kg/ha) of total protein and oil content of soybeans. Have been achieved very high yields of soybean in 5,746 amounted to an average kg/ha. Yields ranged from 5,604 kg/ha in the control variant to 5,887 kg/ha for foliar feeding options. Average grain yield was higher in the variants of foliar feeding of 283 kg/ha or 5.05% compared to the control variant. Differences defined in oil content soybean material between the control and foliar nutrition were not statistically significant, while the protein content was the same in both variants. Higher protein and oil yield in the was recorded as either a foliar nutrition. Were done, the values of the correlation coefficient between the studied traits. There was a significantly high positive correlation between yield and oil content (0.73**) and a negative correlation between yield and protein content (-0.35) and between oil and protein content in soybean (-0.45). The organic production of soybean foliar nutrition proved to be a successful method for improving the yield of soybean. Research to be continued., Organska poljoprivredna proizvodnja beleži kontinuirani rast obima proizvodnje i tražnje posmatrano u globalnim okvirima, u cilju zadovoljenja potreba potrošača za kvalitetnom i zdravstveno bezbednijom hranom. Na parcelama Instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo, u Bačkom Petrovcu, izveden je ogled soje po metodama organske proizvodnje, u četiri ponavljanja, 2011. godine. U radu je proučavan uticaj folijarne ishrane sa mikrobiološkim đubrivom na prinos i hemijski sastav zrna, kod NS sorte Galina. Ispitivana su sledeća svojstva: prinos zrna soje (kg/ha), sadržaj (%) i prinos (kg/ha) ukupnih proteina i ulja u zrnu soje. Ostvareni su izuzetno visoki prinosi soje i u proseku su iznosili 5.746 kg/ha. Prinosi su varirali od 5.604 kg/ha u kontrolnoj varijanti do 5.887 kg/ha u varijanti folijarne ishrane. Prinos zrna soje u proseku bio je viši u varijanti folijarne ishrane za 283 kg/ha ili za 5,05 % u odnosu na kontrolnu varijantu. Definisane razlike sadržaja ulja u zrnu soje između kontrolnog materijala i folijarne ishrane nisu statistički značajne, dok je sadržaj proteina bio isti u obe varijante. Odrađene su vrednosti koeficijenta korelacije između ispitivanih svojstava. Zabeležena je pozitivna visoko statistički značajna korelacija između prinosa i sadržaja ulja (0,73**) i negativna korelacija između prinosa i sadržaja proteina (-0,35) kao i između sadržaja ulja i sadržaja proteina u zrnu soje (-0,45). U organskoj proizvodnji soje folijarna ishrana pokazala se kao moguć metod za poboljšanje prinosa soje. Ispitivanje treba nastaviti.",

AB  - Po sadržaju proteina, oko 40 %, soja je prvenstveno proteinska biljka. Međutim zrno soje sadrži i oko 20 % ulja, što soju svrstava u uljane biljne vrste. U cilju ispitivanja tehnološkog kvaliteta NS sorti soje postavljen je ogled sa dvanaest NS sorti soje na osam lokaliteta. Analiziran je prinos zrna, sadržaj proteina i sadržaj ulja u zrnu soje. Prosečan prinos se kretao od 2969 kg ha-1 na lokalitetu Ruma do 3873 kg ha-1 na lokalitetu Bačka Topola. Sadržaj proteina je varirao od 37% na lokalitetu Pančevo do 38,7% na lokalitetu Bačka Topola, dok je sadržaj ulja bio najmanji na lokalitetu Sombor (21,4%), a najveći na lokalitetu Zrenjanin (22,5%).

The aim of this study was to determine the most-yielding NS soybean varieties for the agro-ecological conditions of Pančevo area in Serbia. This paper shows the analysis of yield and quality parameters of eight NS soybean varieties of I maturity group. Plot trial was carried out in Pančevo in 2011. All analyzed NS varieties achieved high yields. The highest average grain yield, and protein and oil yield was achieved by the new soybean variety NS Maximus (4,403 kg ha-1; 1,644 kg ha-1 and 1,023 kg ha-1, respectively) and line NS-L-210 391 (4,371 kg ha-1; 1,613 kg ha-1 and 973 kg ha-1, respectively), while the lowest yield was achieved by Diva (3,119 kg ha-1, 1,163 kg ha-1 and 701 kg ha-1, respectively). Average yield for these soybean varieties was 3,701 kg ha-1. NS Maximus recorded significantly higher yield than other tested varieties, except the line NS-L-210391. NS Maximus and NS-L-414260 achieved significantly higher oil content than the other tested cultivars, while NS-L-210385 had the highest protein content.
AB  - U skladu sa zahtevima tržišta u Odeljenju za soju, Instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo Novi Sad radi se na oplemenjivanju visoko produktivnih sorti soje i sorti visokog kvaliteta zrna. Cilj istraživanja bio je da se odrede najprinosnije NS sorte soje za agroekološke uslove Pančeva i okoline. U radu su prikazani rezultati analize prinosa i parametara kvaliteta osam NS sorti i linija soje I grupe zrenja. Mikroogled je izveden u Pančevu tokom 2011. godine. Sve testirane sorte ostvarile su visoke prinose. AB  - This paper presents the results of a two-year trial of yield, protein and oil content NS soybean cultivars of 0 and I maturity group. Average yield for all tested cultivars was 3,657 kg ha-1. Significantly higher yield was recorded in 2010 as compared to the 2009. Soybean cultivars Sava and Valjevka had the highest yield per unit area as compared to other tested cultivars. The protein content of all soybean cultivars was 38.04% on average. The 2010 protein content was significantly higher than the 2009. Cultivar Proteinka had significantly higher two-year average protein content (39.29%) as compared to the tested cultivars. Average oil content for all tested cultivars was 20.55%. Cultivars Valjevka and Sava had the highest average oil content, 20.88% and 20.87% respectively. The 2009 oil content was significantly higher than the 2010. Cultivar Sava had the highest protein and oil yield (1,445 kg ha-1 and 789 kg ha-1 respectively) as compared to other tested cultivars. There were statistically significant differences in yields, and protein and oil content and yield depending on cultivars and testing year. Environmental factors influenced the correlation between yield and protein oil and content.
AB  - U radu su prikazani dvogodišnji rezultati prinosa, sadržaja proteina i ulja NS sorti soje, 0 i I grupe zrenja. Prosečni prinosi, za sve testirane sorte soje, varirali su od 3.211 kg ha-1 (2009) do 4.104 kg ha-1 (2010). Statistički značajno viši prinosi zabeleženi su 2010. u odnosu na 2009. Sorte soje Sava i Valjevka imale su statistički značajno viši prinos po jedinici površine u odnosu na ostale testirane sorte. Sadržaj proteina za sve ispitivane sorte soje iznosio je u proseku 38,04%. Sadržaj proteina u 2010. bio je statistički značajno viši u odnosu na 2009. Sorta Proteinka imala je, u dvogodišnjem proseku, statistički značajno viši prosečan sadržaj proteina (39,29%) u odnosu na ostale testirane sorte. Prosečan sadržaj ulja, za sve testirane sorte soje, iznosio je 20,55%. Najviši sadržaj ulja ostvarile su u proseku sorte Valjevka (20,88%) i Sava (20,87%). Statistički značajno veći sadržaj ulja zabeležen je u 2009. u odnosu na 2010. Sorta Sava imala je viši prinos proteina (1.445 kg ha-1) i ulja (789 kg ha-1) u odnosu na ostale testirane sorte. Utvrđene su statistički značajne razlike u prinosima, sadržaju i prinosu proteina i ulja u zavisnosti od sorte i godine ispitivanja. Faktori spoljašnje sredine utiču na korelaciju između prinosa i sadržaja proteina i ulja.

abstract = "This paper presents the results of a two-year trial of yield, protein and oil content NS soybean cultivars of 0 and I maturity group. Average yield for all tested cultivars was 3,657 kg ha-1. Significantly higher yield was recorded in 2010 as compared to the 2009. Soybean cultivars Sava and Valjevka had the highest yield per unit area as compared to other tested cultivars. The protein content of all soybean cultivars was 38.04% on average. The 2010 protein content was significantly higher than the 2009. Cultivar Proteinka had significantly higher two-year average protein content (39.29%) as compared to the tested cultivars. Average oil content for all tested cultivars was 20.55%. Cultivars Valjevka and Sava had the highest average oil content, 20.88% and 20.87% respectively. The 2009 oil content was significantly higher than the 2010. Cultivar Sava had the highest protein and oil yield (1,445 kg ha-1 and 789 kg ha-1 respectively) as compared to other tested cultivars. There were statistically significant differences in yields, and protein and oil content and yield depending on cultivars and testing year. Environmental factors influenced the correlation between yield and protein oil and content., U radu su prikazani dvogodišnji rezultati prinosa, sadržaja proteina i ulja NS sorti soje, 0 i I grupe zrenja. Prosečni prinosi, za sve testirane sorte soje, varirali su od 3.211 kg ha-1 (2009) do 4.104 kg ha-1 (2010). Statistički značajno viši prinosi zabeleženi su 2010. u odnosu na 2009. Sorte soje Sava i Valjevka imale su statistički značajno viši prinos po jedinici površine u odnosu na ostale testirane sorte. Sadržaj proteina za sve ispitivane sorte soje iznosio je u proseku 38,04%. Sadržaj proteina u 2010. bio je statistički značajno viši u odnosu na 2009. Sorta Proteinka imala je, u dvogodišnjem proseku, statistički značajno viši prosečan sadržaj proteina (39,29%) u odnosu na ostale testirane sorte. Prosečan sadržaj ulja, za sve testirane sorte soje, iznosio je 20,55%. Najviši sadržaj ulja ostvarile su u proseku sorte Valjevka (20,88%) i Sava (20,87%). Statistički značajno veći sadržaj ulja zabeležen je u 2009. u odnosu na 2010. Sorta Sava imala je viši prinos proteina (1.445 kg ha-1) i ulja (789 kg ha-1) u odnosu na ostale testirane sorte. Utvrđene su statistički značajne razlike u prinosima, sadržaju i prinosu proteina i ulja u zavisnosti od sorte i godine ispitivanja. Faktori spoljašnje sredine utiču na korelaciju između prinosa i sadržaja proteina i ulja.",

AB  - Knowledge of mechanical properties of agricultural materials is important for designing and exploitation of agricultural machines and equipment, as well as for successful preservation of biological values of seed during drying, processing and storage. As the shape of soybean seeds is generally round, they can be graded by a simple procedure, using different sieve settings. In this study we assessed the impact of seed grade on the mechanical properties of seed of the soybean varieties which differed in seed size. The initial tangent modulus of elasticity and maximum rupture force were used as indices of mechanical properties of seed, and they were discussed in detail in the paper. The values of the initial tangent modulus of elasticity went down as seed size increased. The lowest value, 9.26 N/mm2, was recorded for grade 6.0 to 6.5 mm in the variety Balkan. The highest value, 18.84 N/mm2, was recorded for grade 4.0 to 4.5 mm in the variety Victoria. Unlike the values of the initial tangent modulus of elasticity, the values of maximum rupture force increased in proportion with increase in seed size. The highest value, 176.18 N, was recorded for grade 5.5 to 6.0 mm in the variety Victoria, and the lowest value, 92.15 N, was recorded for grade 4.0 to 4.5 mm in the variety Balkan. .
AB  - Poznavanje mehaničkih osobina poljoprivrednih materijala je veoma važno prilikom konstruisanja i eksploatacije poljoprivrednih mašina i opreme ali je neophodno i za očuvanje bioloških vrednosti semena prilikom sušenja, skladištenja i procesa dorade. Seme soje na osnovu fizičkih osobina ima okruglast oblik pa je moguće kalibraciju uraditi jednostavnim postupkom pomoću sita raznih dimenzija i otvora. U radu je ispitan uticaj frakcija na mehaničke osobine semena soje za sorte koje se karakterišu različitom krupnoćom zrna. Kao pokazatelji mehaničkih osobina semena korišćeni su početni tangentni modul elastičnosti i maksimalna sila razaranja koji su detaljno prikazani u radu. Vrednosti početnog tangentnog modula elastičnosti su sa povećanjem dimenzije zrna imale manje vrednosti. Tako je najmanja vrednost zabeležena kod sorte Balkan za frakciju 6,0-6,5 mm od 9,26 N/mm2, dok je najveća vrednost zabeležena kod sorte Victoria za frakciju 4,0-4,5 mm od 18,84 N/mm2.Za razliku od početnog tangentnog modula elastičnosti, vrednosti maksimalne sile razaranja su se povećavale sa povećanjem dimenzija semena, tako da je najveća vrednost zabeležena kod sorte Victoria za frakciju 5,5-6,0 mm od 176,18 N dok je najmanja vrednost zabeležena kod sorte Balkan za frakciju 4,0-4,5mm od 92,15 N. .

AB  - Changes occurring in seed during aging are very significant for seed quality, i.e. seed longevity. The rate at which the seed aging process takes place depends on the ability of seed to resist degradation changes and protection mechanisms, specific for each plant species. Six soybean varieties developed at Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops Novi Sad, Serbia, were submitted to accelerated aging for three and five days, and natural aging for six and twelve months, under controlled and conventional storage conditions. The content of malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase and peroxidase activities were studied in relation to seed germination. Lipid peroxidation, as well as the decrease in superoxide dismutase and peroxidase activities (especially pronounced by applied accelerated aging) occurred with both types of aging. Duration of aging period, type of storage and characteristics of soybean varieties affected the degree of seed damage and the ability of seed to resist the negative consequences of aging.

Importance of microbiological fertilizer used in soybean production: Agronomical and biological aspects

AB  - Inoculation is the best way to ensure good nodulation with the proper strain of nitrogen-fixing bacteria for increased yield in an environmentally safe manner. This investigation was conducted on three-year experiment which was set up in four replications with three-crop rotation (maize-soybean-wheat) at experimental field of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, Novi Sad, Serbia. Effects of application of microbiological fertilizer (with nitrogen-fixing bacteria Bradyrhizobium japonicum) on root mass, number and mass of nodes per plant, soil biogeneity (number of ammonifiers, Azotobacter, actinomycetes), as well as the effect on soybean yield were studied. Obtained results indicated positive impact of inoculation on nitrogen fixation parameters. The higher amounts of mineral nitrogen had negative impact on atmospheric nitrogen fixation, that is, by increasing preplanting mineral nitrogen amount in the soil by 1 kg, the amount of calculated nitrogen from the air was decreased by 1.72 kg. Increasing abundance of studied microorganisms in the rhizosphere, as well as soybean yield using microbiological fertilizer was stimulated by plowing under crop residues. The impact of meteorogical conditions on the effects of inoclutaion was very significant.

AB  - Ispitivanja stabilnosti hemijskog sastava zrna soje sprovedena su na 13 genotipova soje, šest lokaliteta, tokom šest godina, korišćenjem linearnog modela. Usled heterogenosti uslova uspevanja, svi lokaliteti/godine podeljeni su u dve grupe, u zavisnosti od prinosa. Stabilnost sadržaja proteina u semenu razlikovala se u zavisnosti od visine prinosa, dok kod prosečnih vrednosti nisu zabeležene veće razlike. Nasuprot tome, stabilnost sadržaja ulja u semenu nije se značajnije razlikovala u zavisnosti od prinosa, dok je prosečan sadržaj ulja bio veći na lokalitetima/godinama kada su zabeleženi niži prinosi soje. Uslovi spoljašnje sredine utiču na korelaciju između sadržaja ulja i proteina. Negativna korelacija između sadržaja ulja i proteina uočena je samo pri visokim prinosima, dok pri niskim prinosima ova negativna veza nije dobijena.

Yield and quality of soybean seeds as affected by growing conditions

AB  - Effect of environmental conditions (temperatures and precipitation) on soybean yield and seed quality was examined during two years. Trials with four replications were located at experimental fields of Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops at Rimski Šančevi. Environmental conditions had significant influence on examined traits, and higher yield and seed quality was achieved during beneficial year. There was a moderate positive relationship between yield and seed germination.
AB  - U dvogodišnjem istraživanju ispitivan je uticaj agrometeoroloških činilaca (temperatura i padavina) na prinos i semenske kvalitete zrna soje. Ogled je postavljen u četiri ponavljanja na oglednim parcelama Instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo na Rimskim Šančevima u 2009. i 2010. Vremenski uslovi značajno su uticali na ispitivana svojstva, odnosno u godini sa povoljnim meteorološkim uslovima (2010) ostvaren je veći prinos i kvalitet semena ispitivanih sorti soje. Uočena je umerena pozitivna korelacija između prinosa i klijavosti semena.

Effects of foliar fertilization and seed treatment with a preparation based on Co and Mo on soybean yield

AB  - In this paper we studied the effect of foliar fertilization with a complex liquid fertilizer, that contains macro elements (N, P, K) and microelements (Mn, B, Zn, Co), and seed treatment with cobalt and molybdenum based preparation, on yield performance of three soybean cultivars, of different maturity groups. The application of the foliar fertilizer, in all three soybean cultivars, has achieved significantly higher yields, compared with the control variant and the variant with the preparation based on cobalt and molybdenum. Seed treatment with the cobalt and molybdenum based preparation, the emerged seedlings exhibited phytotoxic symptoms of excess of these heavy metals. Leaf tips and margins of these seedlings turned yellow, and the growth of these plants was retarded, which adversely affected their yield performance.
AB  - U radu je proučen uticaj folijarnog prihranjivanja soje, kompleksnim tečnim hranivom, sa makroelementima (N, P i K) i mikroelementima (Mn, B, Zn, Co), kao i tretiranje semena preparatom na bazi kobalta i molibdena na prinos tri sorte soje, različite grupe zrenja. Primenom folijarnog prihranjivanja, kod sve tri sorte soje, postignuti su statistički značajno veći prinosi, u odnosu na kontrolnu varijantu i varijantu sa primenom preparata na bazi kobalta i molibdena. Tretiranjem semena preparatom na bazi kobalta i molibdena, posle nicanja na mladim biljkama pojavili su se fitotoksični simptomi u vidu žućenja vršnih i rubnih delova lista, biljke su zaostale u porastu, što se negativno odrazilo na prinos.
