AB  - Oplemenjivanje na otpornost prema patogenima je najefikasnija i najprihvatljivija mera sa stanovišta zaštite bilja i zaštite životne sredine. U Srbiji se razvijala paralelno sa razvojem oplemenjivačkih programa ratarskih, povrtarskih i voćarskih biljnih vrsta. Istraživanja su se vršila u dva pravca u zavisnosti od toga da li je proučavana genetička osnova biljke ili varijabilnost patogena u uslovima spoljne sredine. Problemi u proizvodnji najznačajnijih ratarskih, povrtarskih i voćarskih biljnih vrsta, često su bili vezani za pojavu novih patogena koji su pretili da onemoguće gajenje na teritoriji Srbije. Rešenja su bila u pronalaženju i ugradnji jednog ili više gena koji su omogućavali vertikalnu (kratkotrajnu) ili horizontalnu (dugotrajnu) otpornost. Zbog toga je najperspektivnija sintetička selekcija koja podrazumeva istovremenu inkorporaciju gena vertikalne i horizontalne otpornosti.

AB  - Prva proučavanja populacije P. graminis tritici u Srbiji započeta su krajem 50-tih godina XX veka. U dosadašnjim proučavanjima razlikuju se dva perioda: prvi obuhvata identifikaciju fizioloških rasa pomoću standardnih diferencijalnih sorti, a drugi utvrđivanje biotipova korišćenjem izogenih linija pšenice. Dobijeni rezultati više autora pokazali su da je populacija P. graminis tritici u Srbiji složena, jer se sastoji iz većeg broja rasa i biotipova. Osim toga, ona je ispoljila i značajnu varijabilnost, jer se rasni sastav vremenom menjao.
AB  - The first investigations on the population of Puccinia graminis tritici in Serbia were carried out in the 1950s. In the past investigations two periods may be differentiated: identification of physiologic races based on standard differential varieties and biotypes establishment based on isogenic wheat lines. The results obtained by numerous authors showed that the Puccinia graminis tritici population in Serbia is composed of a great number of races and biotypes. In addition, the population showed considerable variability due to the changes of the race composition with time.

Seed-born pathogens of small grains

AB  - Seed-borne diseases significantly reduce the yield and quality of the seed Although a large number of small grains parasites have been described thus far, only a few of them cause economically important damage under climate's conditions in Serbia. The most significant parasites are: Tilletia tritici Ustilago tritici, U. nuda, U. hordei, U. avenue, Pyrenophora graminea, P. teres, Cochliobolus sativus, Rhynchosporium secalis, P. tritici-repentis Leptosphaeria nodo-rum, Fusarium graminearum and Monographella nivalis. Wheat bunt is a very old and well-studied disease that is well known to science. It regained significance in Serbia in the last few years and now presents a problem for small grains production and marketing. Many different factors have contributed to the reappearance of this disease in our fields: sowing of uncertified seed, treatment with inefficient fungicides, nonapplication of cultural practice measures (inadequate pre-sowing preparation and untimely sowing), problems related to active ingredients and formulation unsatisfactory coating of the seed with the preparation, reduced fungicide efficacy (development of resistant pathotypes), and development of more virulent pathotypes in parasite population. The main preconditions for successful pathogen control are: selection of resistant varieties, strict adherence to crop rotation recommendation, regular checks by seed sanitary inspection, correct application of fertilizers and use of fungicides for seed treatment.
AB  - Daje se kratak pregled najznačajnijih parazita semena strnih žita. Pored značaja koji imaju u Srbiji, ukazano je na simptome, biologiju parazita i mogućnosti suzbijanja. Na kraju, nabrojani su paraziti semena od manjeg ekonomskog značaja, koji u pojedinim godinama mogu naneti značajne štete. Paraziti semena strnih žita koji nisu specifični za naše područje nisu navedeni.

AB  - Uslovi za pripremu zemljišta i setvu strnina u 2000/01. godini bili su veoma nepovoljni. Dug bezkišni period i setva u suvo zemljište uticali su na jaču pojavu parazita semena i slabosti klijanaca. Veliki broj samoniklih biljaka i povoljne temperature pospešile su razvoj obligatnih parazita, pre svih prouzrokovača pepelnice. Ovako jak napad parazita zabeležen je sredinom decembra i početkom januara (fenofaza razvoja strnih zita 32-37), pa se postavilo pitanje opravdanosti hemijskog suzbijanja. Problem je predstavljao i kolebljivost dnevnih temperatura u periodu koji je dolazio, čime bi bila dovedena u pitanje efikasnost preparata. Zbog toga na većini parcela nije urađeno hemijsko suzbijanje prouzrokovača pepelnice i drugih parazita mada su intenziteti zaraze prelazili granicu štetnosti.

AB  - Cilj rada je bio da se utvrdi količina teleutospora na zrnu pšenice,.jer je njihovo prisustvo u direktnoj korelaciji sa intenzitetom infekcije u polju i zagađenosti zrna. Korišćena je metoda ispiranja (pranja) zrna. Radni uzorak iznosio je 4 x 300 zrna. Brojanje spora parazita vršeno je pomoću mikroskopa u 10 vidnih polja ponavljanja. Za poređenje nivoa značajnosti uzeto je 50 spora/zrnu (spora po zrnu). Od 80 analiziranih uzoraka kod 92,5 % je utvrđeno prisustvo teleutospora parazita. Kontaminiranost zrna 25 (31,2%) uzoraka bila je iznad nivoa značajnosti. U 1997. godini prosečan broj spora bio je znatno viši nego u 1996. godini. Najveća kontaminiranost zrna teleutosporama parazita Tilletia spp. (20,5 po zrnu) bila je kod 17 uzoraka koji su poticali iz lokaliteta Sremski Jarak.
AB  - The aim of this work was to evaluate teleutospore counts on wheat grains, as their presence directly  correlates with the infection degree on the field and with the contamination of the grain. Method of the rinsing (washing) of grains was applied. The sample was 4 times 300 grains. Counting of parasite spores was performed microscopically, at 10 sight field repeats. For the evaluation of significance level 50 spores per grain was used. From 80 analyzed samples, at 92,5oA the presence of teleutospores has been found. Contamination of 25 (31,2%) samples was above the significance level. Spore counts in 1997 were higher than in 1996. The highest contamination levels for teleutospores of Tilletia spp. parasites (20.5 per grain) were found in samples originating from Sremski Jarak region.

Najveća kontaminiranost zrna teleutosporama parazita Tilletia spp. (20,5 po zrnu) bila je kod 17 uzoraka koji su poticali iz lokaliteta Sremski Jarak., The aim of this work was to evaluate teleutospore counts on wheat grains, as their presence directly  correlates with the infection degree on the field and with the contamination of the grain. Method of the rinsing (washing) of grains was applied. The sample was 4 times 300 grains. Counting of parasite spores was performed microscopically, at 10 sight field repeats. For the evaluation of significance level 50 spores per grain was used. From 80 analyzed samples, at 92,5oA the presence of teleutospores has been found. Contamination of 25 (31,2%) samples was above the significance level. Spore counts in 1997 were higher than in 1996. The highest contamination levels for teleutospores of Tilletia spp. parasites (20.5 per grain) were found in samples originating from Sremski Jarak region.",

AB  - Osim uopštenih konstatacija da je parazit sočivaste pegavosti pšenice široko rasprostranjen u Srbiji, nema bližih podataka o lokalitetima i intenzitetu njegove pojave, a još manje o štetama koje pričinjava. U 1997. godini pojavu ovog parazita registrovali smo u lokalitetima: Aranđelovac, Bajina Bašta, Čačak, Kikinda, Kragujevac, Kruševac, Negotin, Pančevo, Priština, Smederevo, Stragari, Topola, Vršac, Šabac i Zaječar. lntezitet napada se kretao od nekoliko do 30%, a najčešće se javljao na pšenici kraj reka i nižim delovima parcela. Štetnost P. herpotrichoides ispitivana je u lokalitetu Kragujevac na sorti Srbijanka. U vreme pune zrelosti pšenice merena je visina i uzimani su uzorci klasova zdravih i bolesnih biljaka sa 1 m2 u četiri ponavljanja. Utvrđen je značajan uticaj P. herpotrichoides na visinu biljaka, broj klasova po m2 i prinos zrna. Visina obolelih biljaka je iznosila 65,09 cm, a zdravih 99,04 cm. Prosečan broj klasova po m2 na obolelom delu parcele je bio 352,5, a na zdravom 545,7. To pokazuje da mnogi rano oboleli izdanci nisu klasali. Osim toga, utvrđeno je da ovaj parazit prouzrokuje šturost zrna i smanjenje prinosa za 68,09%. Široka rasprostranjenost i visoka destruktivnost parazita sočivaste pegavosti ukazuju da može pričiniti velike štete u proizvodnji pšenice.

AB  - U radu je prikazana otpornost novih linija ječma, koje su prijavljene Komisiji za priznavanje poljoprivrednog bilja, prema Puccinia hordei. Utvrđeno je da je većina ispitivanih linija osetljiva prema ovom parazitu, ali da postoje i otporne. Prosečan koeficijent infekcije u 1995. godini je bio veći kod jarih, a u 1996. godini kod ozimih linija.
AB  - The barley leaf rust, caused by biotrophic fungus Puccinia hordei Otth., is one of the most important disease in Yugoslavia. In this paper resistance of 14 winter and 12 spring barley new lines in J 995, and 18 winter and 16 spring lines in 1996 was investigated. The obtained results demonstrated that most of the barley lines were susceptible to leaf rust, but some of them were resistant. The mean coefficient of infection in 1995 were higher on spring and in 1996 on winter barley lines.

AB  - Powdery mildew induced by the fungus Blumeria graminis tritici is a regular and economically important wheat disease in Yugoslavia. It has spread across all of the regions of growing, significantly reducing wheat yields in our country. A successful wheat breeding for resistance to the causal agent of powdery mildew is based on the identification of virulence and changes in a population of this pathogen. Sexual and asexual populations Blumeria graminis tritici were analysed using wheat samples that contained the fungus, spore trap, and mobile nurseries. The sexual part of the population was studied for five years. Wheat samples containing cleistothecia of the fungus were collected in 198 sites. The 1096 isolates analyzed rendered 700 virulence formulae, which illustrates the high variability of the parasite. Complex genotypes are formed by sexual reproduction. Most of the genotypes possessed 8 to 11 virulent genes.

Bolesti strnih žita i njihovo suzbijanje

AB  - Poslednjih godina vladali su veoma povoljni uslovi za razvoj obligatnih arazita Erysiphe graminis tritici i Puccinia recondita tritici na pšenici i Erysiohe graminis hordei i Puccinia hordei na ječmu. Blage zime bez snega omogućavale su obligatima da prezime na novoposejanim usevima u stadijumu micelije, odnosno uredostadijumu (micelija i uredospore). Ako ovome dodamo i osetljivost pojedinih sorti koje suse raširile u proizvodnji, onda nije čudo što smo suočeni sa epifitotičnom pojavom lisne rđe i znaajnim gubicima u prinosu.

Search of incomplete resistance of oat to crown rust

AB  - Basic goal in oat breeding for resistance to crown rust is to provide a long-term protection. AB  - U radu je dat pregled efikasnosti nekih Ml gena otpornosti ječma prema prouzrokovaču pepelnice u pet lokaliteta na području Srbije (Kragujevac, Zaječar, Kruševac, Vršac i Peć). AB  - The barley powdery mildew is very spread in Serbia. Good results in the control of this disease could be realized by growing of resistant cultivars. Investigation was carried out during 1991-1992 in five localities (Kragujevac, Zaječar, Kruševac, Vršac and Peć). Artificial inoculation was made only in Kragujevac. The results show that the genes ml-05, Ml-a16, Ml-a17, Ml-a18 and Ml-a19 were the most effective. There are no virulence alleles to this genes in our population. The genes Ml-a, Ml-a3. Ml-a9, Ml-a13, Ml-p i Ml-at had the middle efficiency (coefficient of infection 2,2-9,8). The other genes (MI-a6, Ml-a8, Ml-a12, Ml-g, Ml-c, Ml-k, Ml-nn, Ml-41/145, Ml-h and Ml-La) were not effective .

AB  - Pepelnica je u nas česta i ekonomski značajna bolest pšenice. Njena uspešna zaštita od prouzrokovača ove bolesti (Erysiphe graminis tritici) može da se ostvari gajenjem otpornih sorata. U cilju stvaranja takvih sorata obavljena su mnogobrojna ukrštanja između različitih genotipova pšenice. Kao receptori gena otpornosti korišćene su poznate komercijalne sorte pšenice Kragujevčanka 56, Jugoslavija, Balkan, Kavkaz, Posavka 2, Skopljanka, Partizanka, Biserka, i dr., a kao donori genotipovi pšenice iz Međunarodnog rasadnika pepelnice FR 8119, FR 845, SC 780934, D-12, GA 83021, MD 81012-33, OK 82377, GP 8700, SMH 1428 i domaće populacije P 596-III/16 i P 518-I/5. Ovi genotipovi su se u našim prethodnim visegodišnjim ispitivanjima pokazali veoma otpornim, što govori da poseduju različite Pm gene otpornosti.

AB  - Pepelnica je veoma rasprostranjena i ekonomski značajna bolest pšenice u Srbiji. Stvaranjem i gajenjem otpornih sorata ostvaruje se najuspešnija zaštita. Ukrštanjem između osetljivih komercijalnih sorata (kragujevčanka 56, jugoslavija, balkan, kavkaz, posavka 2, skopljanka, partizanka i biserka) i donora Pm gena (FR 845, FR 8119, SC 780934, D-12, GA 83021, P 596-111/16 i P 518/1-5) stvoreno je 156 linija. Pedigre metoda je korišćena kod potomstva. Ova istraživanja su pokazala da se otpornost, uglavnom, nasleđivala dominantno. Otpornost donora je kontrolisana sa jednim, dva ili tri dominantna gena. Kod nekih kombinacija utvrđeno je komplementarno delovanje gena. Proučavana je, takođe, i produktivnost hibrida. Najznačajnije su linije koje su dobijene ukrštanjem skopljanka x FR 845, partizanka x FR 845 i jugoslavija x FR 8119. Njihov prinos zrna po glavnom stablu je bio od 2,38 do 4,01 grama. Za buduća istraživanja izdvojene su linije sa dobrom otpornošću i visokom produktivnošću.
AB  - Powdery mildew is a very frequent and economically important wheat disease in Serbia. An increasing importance is paid to the selection and growing of resistant cultivars. By crossing susceptible commercial cultivars (kragujevčanka 56, jugoslavija, balkan, kavkaz, posavka 2, skopljanka, partizanka and biserka) and Pm genes donor (FR 845, FR 8119, SC 780934, D-12, GA 83021, P 596-IIl/16 and P 518-1/5), 156 new lines were created. The pedigree method was used with the progenies. These studies showed that the inheritance of resistance was dominant. The resistance or donors was controlled by one, two or three dominant genes. In some combinations complementary effect of genes was found. Indicators of productivity of hybrids were also studied. The most important were the lines made by crossing skopljanka x FR 845, partizanka x FR 845 and jugoslavija x FR 8119. Their grain yield ranged from 2,38 to 4,01 grams per ear. Lines with good resistance and high productivity were separated for further investigation .

AB  - U radu su izneti rezultati dosadašnjih istraživanja nekompletne otpomosti prema prouzrokovačima rđa pšenice i ječma u inostranstvu i našoj zemlji. Postoje velike mogućnosti uspešne selekcije na otpomost prema parazitima iz roda Puccinia.
AB  - Results of the investigation connected with incomplete resistance to Puccinia spp. in wheat and barley are presented in this paper. There are conditions for efficient breeding on that character. Heritability is high, environmental influence on gene expression in the field can be eliminated with investigations in the controlled conditions. Selection of parents which carry genes for the resistance is possible after only one year of estimation AUDPC (area under disease progress curve) values, latent period 50 length and infection efficiency. Inheritance of the character in our field conditions is mostly partially dominant. That fact makes the selection of genotypes from the progenies with another desirable characters besides incomplete resistance easier.

Identification of Powdery Mildew Resistance Genes in Wheat

AB  - One of the main conditions for successful breeding for resistance to parasites is the selection of parents different in genes which control these characters. In Yugoslavia only Pm 4a gene expresses resistance in interaction with most isolates different in virulence at the seedling stage. There is a question how to explain complete resistance to Erysiphe graminis tritici of many lines at the seedling stage and field conditions. It might be supposed that these lines possess some another single Pm gene or that few genes act complementary. One of the possible ways to answer on this question is to analyze inheritance of the resistance in progenies from crosses of tested variety or line and all lines which carry single Pm genes. If some of the known genes are included in inheritance there are expected differences in segregation ratio in comparison with other combinations.

AB  - The paper deals with the virulence of genotypes which are causal
agents of powdery mildew in wheat proliferated by sexual reproduction,
in 1988 and 1989. Analysis of 735 isolates showed that dominant genes
had virulent formulae 1, 2, 3a, 3b, 5, 6, 8/4a and 1, 2, 3a, 3c, 5, 6,
8/3b, 4a. 45 genotypes were found in 1988 and 83 in 1989. Frequencies
of V-3b and V-4a were the lowest. Most genotypes possessed 5 to 8
virulent genes.
