AB  - We analyzed the effect of thinning date and genotype on some phenological and quality characteristics of sugar beet seed produced by the over wintering method in two calendar years. Experiments were conducted in sugar beet seed plots located in the agro-ecological region of southern Bačka. The earlier genotype C had a higher correlation coefficient between the number of seeds per inflorescence branch and seed germination than the later genotype S. The two genotypes had similar correlation coefficients between the length of inflorescence branch and the number of seeds. Compared with thinning in the spring, the fall thinning had significant effects on the length of the inflorescence branch, number of seeds per inflorescence branch and seed viability.

AB  - Aim of this research was to determine influence of the insecticides on sugar beet germination in field conditions. Further, connection between field germination and yield was also analyzed. Trials were conducted during two years, 2010 and 2011, with the most common insecticides used for this purpose. Some of them were used as seed treatment and some were incorporated in soil during sowing. As a seed was used hybrid variety Lara from Institute of field and vegetable crops, Novi Sad. Statistical analysis showed that treatments with insecticides imidacloprid, thiamethoxam and furathiocarb had the highest rates of field germination. Also, high positive correlation was determined between field germination and sugar beet yield.
AB  - Osnovni cilj rada je da se odredi uticaj insekticida na poljsku klijavost šećerne repe. Analizirana je i međuzavisnost poljske klijavosti i prinosa korena šećene repe. Ogled je izveden tokom dve godine, sa kod nas najčešće primenjivanim insekticidima u peleti semena šećerne repe, kao i unošenjem insekticida u zemljište. Kao seme poslužila je hibridna sorta Lara, nastala u Institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo. Statistički visoko značajnu poljsku klijavost ostvarilo je seme tretirano insekticidima imidakloprid, tiametoksam i furatiokarb. Visoka pozitivna korelacija ustanovljena je između poljske klijavosti i prinosa korena šećerne repe.

AB  - The known effects of 1000-seed weight on quality traits in sugar beet seeds have led us to investigate the effects of irrigation dates and rates on 1000-seed weight of this crop. Statistically significant differences were observed for both the irrigation and the amount of water applied. 1000-seed weight increased from the first to the third irrigation date. The third irrigation date, 45 days after the flower stalks began to form, produced the largest 1000-seed weight. The largest 1000-seed weight was also observed in the treatment with 45-55 mm of water, and the difference between that and the treatment with 25-30 mm water was statistically significant.
AB  - Poznati uticaj mase 1.000 semena na ostale kvalitetne osobine semena šećerne repe, dao nam je zadatak da se istraži uticaj rokova i norme zalivanja na masu 1.000 semena šećerne repe. Statistički opravdane razlike ostvarene su kod rokova zalivanja i količine vode. Masa 1.000 semena rasla je od prvog do trećeg roka zalivanja. Treći rok zalivanja posle 45 dana od početka formiranja cvetnog stabla ostvario je najveću masu 1.000 semena šećerne repe. Najveća masa 1.000 semena bila je od 45 mm do 55 mm vode sa opravdanim razlikama u odnosu na 25 mm do 30 mm vode.

AB  - Experiments were conducted at Rimski Šančevi experiment field of Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops, on a calcareous chernozem soil on the loess terrace, from 2004 to 2006. The experiments included a variant of irrigation (T1) and a no irrigated control (T0) and four variants of nitrogen fertilization, N1 90, N2 120, N3 150 and N4 180 kg ha-1. Coefficients of irrigation water use efficiency (I/WUE, t ha-1/mm) and evapotranspiration water use efficiency (ETm/WUE and ETa/WUE, t ha-1/mm) were used to assess the effect of applied irrigation schedule on the yield of sugar beet root and water productivity both in irrigation and rained condition under different variants of nitrogen fertilization. As there were no statistically significant differences in sugar beet root yield either among the variants with high nitrogen doses or among the values of I/WUE, ETm/ WUE and ETa/WUE, the variant of nitrogen fertilization with 120 kg ha-1 is adequate for both irrigation and rained conditions. Higher values of ETa/WUE in relation to ETm/ WUE indicated that water consumption by sugar beet was more productive under rained than under conditions of irrigation. Low values of I/WUE in some years and higher values of ETa/WUE than ETm/WUE in the period of study indicate that irrigation in the climate of Vojvodina is supplementary in character. .
AB  - Eksperimentalna istraživanja su obavljena na oglednom polju Instituta za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo na Rimskim Šančevima, na zemljištu tipa karbonatni černozem lesne terase u periodu od 2004-2006. godine. U ogledu su bile zastupljene varijanta sa navodnjavanjem (T1) i kontrolna, nenavodnjavana varijanta (T0) i četiri varijante đubrenja azotom N1 90, N2 120, N3 150 i N4 180 kg ha-1. Koeficijenti iskorišćenosti vode dodate navodnjavanjem (I/WUE, t ha-1/mm) i vode utrošene na evapotranspiraciju (ETm/WUE and Eta/WUE, t ha-1/mm) su korišćeni za ocenu efekta realizovanog zalivnog režima na prinos korena šećerne repe, odnosno za ocenu produktivnosti utrošene vode kako u navodnjavanju tako i u uslovima prirodne obezbeđenosti biljaka vodom, na raličitim varijantama đubrenja azotom. Navodnjavanje nije signifikantno uticalo na visinu prinosa korena šećerne repe ali je prinos u uslovima navodnjavanja bio veći za 9,4%, odnosno 8,01 t ha-1. Kako nisu utvrđene statistički značajne razlike u postignutim prinosima korena šećerne repe i koeficijenata I/WUE, ETm/WUE, ETa/WUE između varijanti sa visokim dozama đubrenja azotom, upućuje na zaključak da je varijanta đubrenja azotom 120 kg ha-1 prihvatljiva kako za uslove navodnjavanja tako i za uslove prirodne obezbeđenosti biljaka vodom. Veće vrednosti ETa/WUE u odnosu na ETm/WUE ukazuju na produktivniju potrošnju vode u uslovima prirodne obezbeđenosti biljaka vodom u odnosu na proizvodnju šećerne repe u uslovima navodnjavanja. Niske vrednosti I/WUE u pojedinim godinama kao i veće vrednosti ETa/WUE u odnosu na ETm/WUE u periodu istraživanja ukazuju na dopunski karakter navodnjavanja u klimatskim uslovima Vojvodine. .

Adaptability and stability of NS sugar beet varieties grown in different agroecological conditions

AB  - In 2001 and 2002 seven sugar beet varieties with different level of rhizomania resistance were tested on five locations, for root yield, sugar content and yield stability. Analyzed traits depended on agroecological conditions and varied from 44.96 t/ha to 95.00 t/ha for root yield, 11.30% to 16.56% for sugar content and 5.08 t/ha to 13.54 t/ha for sugar content. Varieties Mara and Sara had the highest sugar content. High general adaptability for root and recoverable sucrose yield had variety Drena, while variety Sara had significantly higher stability for those traits.
AB  - Tokom 2001. i 2002. godine na 5 lokaliteta je ispitivano 7 sorti šećerne repe različitog nivoa tolerantnosti prema rizomaniji. Utvrđen je prinos korena sadržaj šećera i prinos šećera i po modelu Eberhart i Russell (1966) izračunata stabilnosti sorti. U zavisnosti od faktora spoljne sredine prinos korena je varirao od 44,96 t/ha do 95,00 t/ha, sadržaj šećera od 11,30% do 16,56% i prinos polarizacionog šećera od 5,08 t/ha do 13,54 t/ha. U sadržaju šećera prednost su pokazale sorte Mara i Lara. Visoku opštu adaptabilnost za prinos korena i prinos šećera pokazala je sorta Drena, dok je sorta Sara pokazala natprosečnu stabilnost za ova svojstva.

abstract = "In 2001 and 2002 seven sugar beet varieties with different level of rhizomania resistance were tested on five locations, for root yield, sugar content and yield stability. Analyzed traits depended on agroecological conditions and varied from 44.96 t/ha to 95.00 t/ha for root yield, 11.30% to 16.56% for sugar content and 5.08 t/ha to 13.54 t/ha for sugar content. Varieties Mara and Sara had the highest sugar content. High general adaptability for root and recoverable sucrose yield had variety Drena, while variety Sara had significantly higher stability for those traits., Tokom 2001. i 2002. godine na 5 lokaliteta je ispitivano 7 sorti šećerne repe različitog nivoa tolerantnosti prema rizomaniji. Utvrđen je prinos korena sadržaj šećera i prinos šećera i po modelu Eberhart i Russell (1966) izračunata stabilnosti sorti. U zavisnosti od faktora spoljne sredine prinos korena je varirao od 44,96 t/ha do 95,00 t/ha, sadržaj šećera od 11,30% do 16,56% i prinos polarizacionog šećera od 5,08 t/ha do 13,54 t/ha. U sadržaju šećera prednost su pokazale sorte Mara i Lara. Visoku opštu adaptabilnost za prinos korena i prinos šećera pokazala je sorta Drena, dok je sorta Sara pokazala natprosečnu stabilnost za ova svojstva.",

AB  - The effects of harvest date and plant population on sugar beet seed size by fraction were studied in a three-year field trial after primary seed cleaning. The seed size was highly significantly affected by the different harvesting dates. The highest percentage of the seeds fell into either the 3.5-4.5 mm fraction or the 4.5-6.0 mm one. This indicates that in the three different climatic years the highest amount of large seeds was obtained with hybrids tolerant of sugar beet rhizomania. In most cases, no significant differences were found when comparing the different plant populations per hectare. Highly significant differences were found among the study years resulting from the influence of uncontrolled climatic factors of the agroecological region. This leads to the conclusion that seed sugar beet harvesting is the most important cultural practice affecting seed size in this crop during the production process.

AB  - A three-year field study was carried out to determine the effects of different methods of seed processing with insecticides on the germinability of sugar beet seeds in the field. A two-factorial trial was used to study encrusted, mini pelleted, pelleted and technologically processed seed. The lowest field germinability was obtained using technologically processed seeds, proving that not even the smallest insecticide doses should be applied to bare sugar beet seeds. In our country's climatic conditions, the highest field germinability will be obtained with encrusted seed, the difference being significant relative to mini pelleted and pelleted seed, and highly significant compared with technologically processed seed.
AB  - Trogodišnjim poljskim ogledom ispitivani su različiti načini dorade semena sa insekticidom Furadan 35-ST na poljsku klijavost semena. Ispitivano je inkrustirano seme, mini pilirano seme, pilirano seme i tehnički dorađeno seme. Najmanja poljska klijavost bila je kod tehnički dorađenog semena sa smanjenom dozom insekticida. Najveća poljska klijavost ostvarena je kod inkrustriranog semena. U sušnim godinama postojala je opravdana razlika između inkrustiranog semena i piliranog semena. Između mini piliranog i piliranog semena nije bilo značajnih razlika, jer se takvi načini obrade semena vrlo malo razlikuju u prečniku pilete, a krupnoća semena je ista. Kada je izvođen ogled, postojale su opravdane razlike između godina, što znači da je poljska klijavost analizirana u različitim klimatskim godinama suvog ratarenja. Svi načini dorade semena tretirani su insekticidom, jer to traži današnja moderna proizvodnja semena šećerne repe.

AB  - A large number of seed sugar beet plants produced a small 1000-seed mass. Conversely, a large 1000-seed mass was obtained with a small population. The harvesting dates and trial years proved highly significant in determining the 1000-seed mass of sugar beet. The largest 1000-seed mass was attained with populations of 127.000 and 85.000 plants on the third harvesting date.
AB  - Poznati uticaj mase 1000 semena na ostale osobine kvaliteta semena šećerne repe, dao nam je zadatak da se istraži uticaj pojedinih agrotehničkih mera u proizvodnji semena šećerne repe. Statistički najveće opravdane razlike ostvarene su kod roka žetve. Masa 1000 semena rasla je do trećeg roka žetve, posle čega se smanjivala. Rezultati ukazuju da je rok žetve najznačajniji u završnoj proizvodnji semena šećerne repe. Veliki uticaj spoljnih uslova video se u različitoj masi semena u sve tri godine ispitivanja. Opravdanih razlika nije bilo kod broja biljaka, odnosno razmaka biljaka u redu. Najveća masa semena bila je kod 127000 i 85000 biljaka, ali bez opravdanih razlika u odnosu na ostale sklopove biljaka. Najmanja masa ostvarena je kod najvećeg broja biljaka od 218000 na ha:1 u prva dva roka žetve. Tako su broj biljaka i masa 1000 semena obrnuto proporcionalni. Sa manjim brojem biljaka veća je masa 1000 semena i sa većim brojem biljaka manja je masa 1000 semena.
