AB - Suncokret je sve više ižložen negativnim uticajima klimatskih promena, posebno visokim
temperaturama i sušnim periodima, što neretko uzrokuje značajne varijacije i smanjenje prinosa
semena.
sprovodi svake godine multilokacijske mikro i proizvodne ogleda širom zemlje, testirajući
adaptabilnost i stabilnost novih i već raširenih hibrida suncokreta u različitim mikroklimatskim
uslovima. Tokom 2023. godine hibridi nove generacije, odnosno dva konvencionalna hibrida (NS
Kruna i NS Ronin) i dva Express (SUMO) hibrida (NS H 8002 i NS H 8005) posejani su u osam
regiona tj. okruga, kod četiri poljoprivredna proizvođača a u svakom okrugu.
hibridi u proseku ostvarili veće prinose u svim okruzima. Ovi rezultati potvrđuju da novosadski
hibridi nove generacije poseduju izuzetnu adaptabilnost, stabilnost, a pored toga i visok
potencijal za prinos u različitim agroekološkim uslovima širom Republike Srbije.

AB - Although flower pollinator interactions are known to be mediated by floral traits, not enough attention has been paid to the research of secretory tissues and volatile components of sunflower disc florets as potentially important parameters in breeding programs. (1) To our knowledge, this is the first integrated study aimed at better understanding the attractiveness of sunflower capitula to insects. In the study, we have made a very detailed comparative analysis of secretory tissues and the characterization of the volatile components (VOCs) of disc florets in 10 wild perennial Helianthus species. (2) For anatomical analyses, cross-sections were obtained from the nectary zone of disc florets using a cryotechnique procedure. Micromorphological observation and morphological and anatomical analysis of disc florets were performed using light and scanning electron microscopy. For VOCs, we applied headspace, GC-FID, and GC/MS analyses. (3) The obtained results indicate that there is a difference between the analyzed traits among studied species. H. eggertii, H. hirsutus, H. mollis, H. resinosus, and H. tuberosus had high disc diameter values, a high cross-section area and disc floret corolla length, as well as the largest cross-section area and thickness of the disc florets nectary. In the analyzed VOCs, 30 different compounds were detected. The highest yield and quantity of α-Pinene was observed in H. mollis. (4) Inflorescence features, such as receptacle diameter, corolla and secretory tissue properties, and floret VOCs production and characterization, provided valuable information that can be used as guidelines in sunflower breeding programs to maximize pollinator attractiveness and increase seed yield.

AB - Drought is the leading cause of agricultural production loss, with 75% of the world's harvested land sustaining yield losses due to this major abiotic stress. According to global climate models, drought conditions are expected to worsen as droughts will grow more severe and prolonged as a result of climate change. Production of sunflower, the fourth most important oil crop, is affected by drought, hence breeding for drought tolerance presents a major task for breeders. So far, the majority studies were oriented toward understanding changes drought causes on morphological, physiological and more recently, on genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic level. Epigenetic mechanisms of drought tolerance in sunflower are still to these days unrevealed. At the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops several drought tests are being developed for detecting drought tolerant sunflower genotypes from our vast collection. In vitro tests with PEG6000 and rhizothron testing allows detecting genotypes tolerant at early stages of sunflower development, while pot tests in walk-in-chambers enables detection of tolerant sunflower in the flowering stage. We will analyze differentially expressed non-coding sRNAs and lncRNAs and their target genes between the most drought tolerant and least drought tolerant genotype for the identification of epiQTLs that can be used in sunflower breeding programs. Additionally, mild drought stress mimicking field conditions is applied to plants grown in pots at early stage of development, to investigate chromatin dynamics during stress application and after recovery from the stress.

AB - Climate change has a negative impact on the production of field crops, especially during extended periods of drought. One of the key strategies to mitigate the effects of extreme climate conditions is crop breeding aimed at enhancing their adaptability to various growing conditions. However, traditional breeding methods are often time-consuming, labor-intensive, and the evaluation outcomes may be biased. To gain a deeper understanding of the adaptive response of sunflowers to drought stress caused by climate change, the SmartSun Project employs a holistic approach encompassing digital root phenotyping, analysis of epigenetic mechanisms, and the integration of acquired data through machine learning. A protocol for early sunflower root growth has been developed using phenotyping in rhizotrons under different watering conditions (70%, 42%, and 50% volumetric water content). Inbred sunflower lines from the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops (IFVCNS) were tested to identify tolerant and sensitive genotypes. Key morphological root traits that reliably differentiate drought sensitivity have been identified.

AB - Crop breeding is a continuous process aimed at increasing yields and improving crop resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses. Recently, frequent and often unpredictable variations in climatic and market conditions have led to the fact that classical breeding methods cannot always provide solutions and a timely response to new challenges in agricultural production. With all this in mind, the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops (IFVCNS) established the Centre of Excellence for Innovations in the Breeding of Climate-tolerant Plants - Climate Crops with the aim of introducing and applying new breeding techniques (NBT), along with efficient phenotyping platforms in crop breeding programs in IFVCNS. It is expected that the activities within Climate Crops will have a positive impact on the excellence and innovative capacities of IFVCNS in the field of breeding plants tolerant to the extreme weather conditions that occur as a result of climate change.

AB - Sunflower is the most important oil crop in Serbia and the fourth most important oil crop worldwide. There is a five decade-long tradition of sunflower breeding at the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops. Besides the main breeding objectives such as breeding for high seed and oil yield, enhancing biotic stress tolerance has been one of the priorities throughout the past. Nowadays with the climate change jeopardizing sunflower production, increasing abiotic stress tolerance is becoming an important breeding goal. Drought as a major abiotic stress induces plant response on different levels: morphological, physiological, biochemical and molecular. On molecular level it causes alteration in gene expression, accumulation of different metabolites and synthesis of specific proteins. As drought tolerance is such a complex quantitative trait, it requires exploiting a holistic approach for the detection of mechanisms sunflower develops to withstand it.

AB - Drought as a major abiotic stress induces numerous, complex responses in plant cells. Those include gene expression alteration, accumulation of different metabolites, and synthesis of specific proteins. At molecular level, changes are under the control of complex regulatory pathways that include epigenetic mechanisms responsible for suitable and fast reactions to newly occurring stress conditions. Epigenetic modifications cause gene expression alteration through histone posttranscriptional modifications, DNA methylation, and small RNAs and lncRNAs expression. Some of these epigenetic modifications might pass on to the next generation, thus providing a good basis for a quicker response to drought stress. Revealing the epigenetic memory mechanisms involved in stress response could be of use in breeding programs for a prompt adaptation of plants to stress conditions. In the contest of the Cropinno project, funded under the Europe Horizon Programme, our aim is to develop an exploratory research project dedicated to the implementation of multi-omics tools for increasing the climate resilience of sunflowers.

AB - Sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.), compared to other crops is considered to be better adapted to drought conditions. However, various drought scenarios can inflict damage quantified in terms of lower seed yield and oil content. In field conditions drought stress in visible in wilting starting with leaves of lower strata and progressing with persistence of stress conditions. Differences in level of wilting symptoms between sunflower plants and genotypes can be observed, although firm conclusion about drought tolerance is not easy to make. To quantify drought tolerance and impact of drought on root architecture various approaches in root phenotyping have been developed. One of methods includes growing plants in rhizotrons for period of time limited by root growth speed.

AB - Broomrape (Orobanche spp.) is a widespread, herbaceous, parasitic plant that has been known to attack various host plants, including sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.). It is native to regions in Europe and Asia, and it co-evolved with various host plants and with the expansion of agriculture and the movement of crops around the world, broomrape was unintentionally transported to new areas. Newer studies reports about sunflower broomrape detection in African countries such as Tunisia and Morroco. After the discovery of broomrape infestations on sunflower, various control and management strategies have been developed to combat its spread which includes crop rotation, use of resistant sunflower genotypes, herbicide use and other cultural practices aimed at reducing the prevalence of broomrape. Since it appereance on sunflower in the beggining of the 20th Century and development of resistant sunflower varieties, broomrape control was mostly focused on using resistant genotypes with monogenic inheritance. With the expansion of resistant sunflower genotypes in the production, existential pressure on broomrape led to the emergence of more virulent physiological races. Broomrape races are designated with letters, from A to H, and until the middle of 1990s broomrape race E was predominant in the most countries were broomrape was present and was successfully controlled by resistant gene Or5. However, studies from the last several years indicate disimilarities between broomrape populations with the same letter (above race E) reported in different countries. Newer molecular studies are focused on detecting quantitative trait loci (QTLs) which may act at different development stages of broomrape, providing accumulative resistance mechanisms in order to ensure more durable protection.
Despite efforts to control broomrape, it remains a persistent problem in sunflower cultivation in certain regions. New strains of broomrape may emerge, making control measures an ongoing challenge for breeders and farmers. Research and development efforts are ongoing to find more effective and sustainable ways to manage this parasitic plant and protect sunflower crop.

AB - A plants capacity to survive in drought condition is in close relation with the root traits. Most of the scientific work related to drought tolerance is focused towards genetic and molecular analysis. Apart from the root morphology (depth, orientation and branching), drought condition reflects the root anatomical characteristics. In order to select sunflower genotypes tolerant to drought, we analyzed the three genotypes grown for fourteen days in rhizotrons, under two different humidity treatments (70% as control and 42% as drought). Root cross-sections were cut along root maturity using a cryotechnique. Our preliminary results showed that characters such as: root cross section area, cortical cells size (exodermis and mesodermis), central cylinder and xylem percentage, and lumen tracheary elements were reduced under 42% humidity, in all three genotypes. Differences in the root response to water deficit among genotypes, especially with the xylem architecture (structure), can be significant guidelines in the selection of sunflower genotypes with higher xeromorphic traits.

A plants capacity to survive in drought condition is in close relation with the root traits. Most of the scientific work related to drought tolerance is focused towards genetic and molecular analysis. Apart from the root morphology (depth, orientation and branching), drought condition reflects the root anatomical characteristics. AB - Sunflower is an important industrial crop. Together with the expansion of the production areas, the challenges in growing sunflower are becoming tougher. Undoubtedly one of the most important problems in sunflower cultivation is the parasitic plant broomrape (Orobanche cumana). The first use of wild Helianthus species for introduction of broomrape resistance dates from the first half of 20th century when Russian academician Zhdanov developed resistant sunflower genotypes from interspecific crosses with H. tuberosus, H. mollis and H. maximiliani. Taking into account the ability of broomrape to evolve into more aggressive races and thus overcome the resistance genes, scientists are forced to constantly search for new sources of resistance. As a result, sources with different levels of resistance are found in H. tuberosus, H. mollis, H. maximiliani, H. nuttalii, H. debilis, H. neglectus, H. niveus, H. argophyllus, H. divaricatus, H. bolanderi, H. petiolaris, H. praecox, H. deserticola and H. grosseserratus. Breeding for genetic resistance is even more challenging due to the existence of not only large broomrape interpopulation divergence, but also intrapopulation divergence. One of the areas that has not received enough attention is the anatomical characterization of the root of wild sunflower species and sunflower in general. It is known that pre-haustorial resistance to broomrape is determined by the development of physical barriers in host root cell walls, which prevents linkage of broomrape to the host. A detailed anatomical characterization of root in wild Helianthus species can give valuable information about differences between the species and more knowledge about the nature of resistance of certain Helianthus species to broomrape.

AB - Investigating root morphological traits thoroughly is crucial for selecting sunflower genotypes with suitable root traits better adapted to drought conditions. This study, a part of the SmartSun project funded by the Fund of Science in the Republic of Serbia, aims to assess the potential of existing sunflower genotypes to tolerate drought conditions using high-throughput root phenotyping in rhizotrons. Rhizotrons are transparent containers that allow non-destructive real-time observation of root growth and development. Root morphological traits in the study were assessed using rhizotrons under well- watered control (70% volumetric water content) and drought stress (41-50% volumetric water content), followed by root digital image analysis using a WinRhizo scanner. The study revealed that several root morphological traits, including fresh and dry root mass, root width, primary root length, a total length of the root system, volume, surface area, and diameter, can indicate a differential response to drought. Generally, the tested genotypes exhibited a reduced growth rate and a significant decrease in measured parameters, except for the average diameter of the root system, under reduced water availability conditions compared to growth under well-watered control. By phenotyping sunflower roots in rhizotrons and selecting appropriate root traits, drought-tolerant genotypes that can withstand water stress conditions can be identified, directing breeding efforts towards a greater focus on these traits.

AB - The aim of this research was to determine the histological basis of the genotypic differences for drought tolerance, calculate tissue volume densities (Vv), examine the variability, and assess tissue proportions along the root maturity gradient. For the stereological analyses of root tissues four sunflower genotypes, 14 days old seedlings which were grown in rhizotrons, have been carried out on the primary (axial) root. The total length of the axial roots varied among genotypes, but not significantly. Root cross-sections were cut along the root maturity in five segments according to the principle of systematic uniform random sampling method. Cross-sections were made applying cryo-technique procedure and proportion of tissues was estimated by point-counting method. The vessel network characteristics (number and diameter of vessels) vary along maturity gradient and individual roots. Consequently, branching vessels pattern and axial conductance may limit water flow through root systems.

Dobijeni rezultati o pokoričnom, mehaničkom, provodnom i sekretornom tkivu predstavljaju nove i do sada nepoznate podatke o interspecijskoj varijabilnosti vrsta, čiji se značaj ogleda u potpunijem poznavanju biologije vrsta roda Helianthus.
AB - The most important goal of sunflower breeding is to increase the genetic capacity for seed yield and thus oil yield. The wild sunflower species is an extremely valuable source of genetic variability for many traits important from the aspect of increasing yield. Data on the structure of vegetative and reproductive organs of wild sunflower species are scarce or not available at all. Therefore, the goal of this dissertation is to complete the knowledge from the micromorphological and anatomical aspects of vegetative organs and parts of the reproductive region of wild species, and thus enable their more intensive use in the breeding of cultivated sunflower for targeted traits. The research included 4 annual and 19 perennial species of the genus Helianthus. A large number of quantitative and qualitative characters were included in the analysis, which were analyzed using a stereomicroscope, light and scanning electron microscope, while GC-MS and GC-FID methods were used for the chemical characterization of pericarp epicuticular wax. The obtained results on cortical, mechanical, vascular and secretory tissue represent new and hitherto unknown data on interspecies variability, the importance of which is reflected in a more complete knowledge of the biology in the genus Helianthus. The observed differences also represent significant guidelines in distinguishing species that are characterized by greater capacity for conductivity and species that are potentially more tolerant to drought. Тhe results of detailed characterization of the vascular and secretory tissue of vegetative organs and parts of the reproductive region are of particular importance. Identified ranks of the lumen surfaces of vassels elements and their percentage representation in the structure of the organ can be a guide for distinguishing high-yielding species. On the basis of desirable properties from the aspect of assimilate transport capacity, the species H. annuus, H. mollis, H. tuberosus, H. eggertii and H. hirsutus stand out. The examined morpho-anatomical characters of the floret are statistically significantly correlated with each other, and in most species they show a high correlation with the development of the vascular tissue of the peduncle. The results of the chemical characterization of the epicuticular wax, together with the results of the anatomical analysis of the pericarp of the fruit of wild sunflower species, provided hitherto unknown data and indicated the possibility of their application in defining the desirable characteristics of the fruit from the aspect of germination and industrial seed processing. Using the methods of discriminant and correspondence analysis, the micromorphological, morphological and anatomical characters of the vegetative organs and parts of the reproductive region, which contribute the most to the separation of species, were clearly revealed. The results of this dissertation represent valuable guidelines on the selection of traits that can be exploited in order to increase yield.

AB - According to the current trend of world population growth, expectations are that the total number of inhabitants will reach 9.6 billion by 2050, which is an increase of more than 10% compared to the current situation. In addition, the average global temperature is rising and setting records every year, accompanied by abnormal climate phenomena such as supercell storms. In addition to numerous biotic factors that create problems in growing crops, record temperatures and unpredictable rainfall present increasingly challenging conditions for successful production. At the global level, sunflower represents a strategic field crop specie, due to the increasing demand for its oil, as well as relatively moderate production requirements, compared to other crops. Bearing in mind the above facts, it is essential to apply innovative techniques in sunflower breeding in order to develop genotypes capable of resisting the challenges of biotic and abiotic stress such as various pests, diseases, high temperatures, drought, etc. In this regard, some of the current trends in plant breeding, including sunflower, are precise gene modification within the genome (CRISPR-Cas9), digitized breeding based on a large data set with the application of bioinformatics for genomic prediction, as well as precise phenotyping and the application of epigenetics for the purpose of breeding for tolerance to abiotic factors caused by frequent climate changes (climate resilient varieties). One of such approaches is the SMARTSUN project of the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops from Novi Sad, which, using modern methods of precise phenotyping along with genotypic and epigenetic research, examines the mechanisms of adaptation of sunflower to extreme abiotic factors, primarily drought, as an increasingly frequent phenomenon caused by climatic irregularities.

AB - Use of multivariate modelling in order to improve prediction accuracy has been widely applied in plant breeding programs. In these models phenotype prediction is based on large number of independent variables which is at the same time strength and weakness. Lately, intensive research in order to improve prediction accuracy resulted in extensive use of different machine learning techniques. The aim of this study is to present new approaches in phenotype prediction based on complex relationships between genotypes and phenotypes. Widely used, one of the main tools in machine learning is artificial neural network (ANN). Although it has a long history, this powerful class of algorithms has been recently used as a state-of-the-art solution for non-linear relationship between the genotype and the trait of interest. Another important advance, capable of identifying extremely complex patterns of prediction and classification of information is called deep learning (DL). Main difference between DL and ANN is in the numbers of layers of neurons. Being based on how humans learn and process information, machine learning is powerful tool for processing complex data in order to make accurate predictions.

AB - The root functionality is affected by numerous factors. One of the main structural parameters, the most important for functionality and adaptability, is xylem organization. Taking into account that sunflower root features have not been directly selected in breeding programs the aim of this research is to determine whether different sunflower genotypes (wild annual species and cultivated genotypes) have influence (i) on the structure of the xylem anatomy and (ii) on the xylem features along the maturity gradient. For the detailed anatomical characterization of root xylem, 14 days old seedlings which were grown in rhizotrons, have been carried out on the primary root. Root cross-sections were cut in positions sampled according to the principle of systematic uniform random sampling method. Along the root maturity, three sections per roots were made using cryotechnic procedure. Observations of the root and measurements of the vessels were carried out using the light microscope with Image Analyzing System. The obtained results of the comparative root xylem anatomy revealed significant phenotypic variability among tested genotypes. The ratio of cross-section xylem area, vessel diameter and theoretical hydraulic conductance (kh), increase along the maturity gradient for all genotypes. Significant differences in vessel size and frequency were recorded between wild species and cultivated genotypes.

AB - Flower morphological characteristics influence abundance and foraging behavior of pollinators. As a source of food, nectar has important role in attracting pollinators and improving the percentage of fertilization in sunflower. On the other side, presence and density of capitate glandular trichomes in the area of anthers, which produce mainly sesquiterpene lactones and flavonoids, is frequently associated with protection against herbivores and pathogens. Therefore, for detailed understanding of the attractiveness of capitula to insects, secretory tissues of disc flowers in wild sunflower species were investigated. Stereoscopic, light and scanning electron microscopy were used to examine nectary anatomy of 21 wild Helianthus species. Presence and distribution of capitate glandular trichomes were analyzed on the same flowers in the anther region. In all analyzed species nectaries are ring shaped and located above the inferior ovary. The nectary is composed of two distinct tissues: the epidermis (single cell layer with modified stoma) and 5-8 layers of secretory parenchyma cells located subepidermally

AB - Among the effects of wide-ranging climate change, drought presents a significant threat to global agricultural production. Drought reduces yield quantity and quality of crops, particularly in the semiarid and arid regions. Better understanding of plant adaptation to drought is of great interest to both crop science and the society as a whole. Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops (IFVCNS) possesses one of the largest collections of different wild and cultivated sunflower genotypes and populations worldwide which will be exploited for analysis of drought tolerance mechanisms. Within the project SmartSun the holistic approach of phenotyping and epigenetic mechanisms which modulate sunflower adaptation to drought stresses driven by climate change will be exploited. Using statistical and machine learning techniques, SmartSun will link the data obtained from phenotyping and epiQTLs to create climate-smart sunflower genotypes that will respond to the variable, unstable, and drought environmental growth conditions.

AB - The aim of this study was to examine the oil and protein contents in the seeds of ten commercial sunflower hybrids to determine the nutritional and functional potential of their seeds. Based on the results, the hybrid NS Oliva was singled out as potential dual-purpose hybrid, due to the high content of oleic acids and additional high protein content, compared to other tested hybrids. The principal component analysis (PCA) singled out hybrids with high oil content (NS Kiril and NS Ronin), hybrids with a high content of oleic acid (NS Oliva and NS Sanol) and a hybrid with a high protein content in dehulled seed (NS Leviathan).

visokim sadržajem proteina u oljuštenom semenu (NS Leviathan)., The aim of this study was to examine the oil and protein contents in the seeds of ten commercial sunflower hybrids to determine the nutritional and functional potential of their seeds. Based on the results, the hybrid NS Oliva was singled out as potential dual-purpose hybrid, due to the high content of oleic acids and additional high protein content, compared to other tested hybrids. The principal component analysis (PCA) singled out hybrids with high oil content (NS Kiril and NS Ronin), hybrids with a high content of oleic acid (NS Oliva and NS Sanol) and a hybrid with a high protein content in dehulled seed (NS Leviathan).",

AB - Foresight in climate change and the challenges ahead requires a systematic approach to sunflower breeding that will encompass all available technologies. There is a great scarcity of desirable genetic variation, which is in fact undiscovered because it has not been sufficiently researched as detection and designing favorable genetic variation largely depends on thorough genome sequencing through broad and deep resequencing. Basic exploration of genomes is insufficient to find insight about important physiological and molecular mechanisms unique to crops. That is why integrating information from genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and phenomics enables a comprehensive understanding of the molecular mechanisms in the background of architecture of many important quantitative traits. Omics technologies offer novel possibilities for deciphering the complex pathways and molecular profiling through the level of systems biology and can provide important answers that can be utilized for more efficient breeding of sunflower. In this review, we present omics profiling approaches in order to address their possibilities and usefulness as a potential breeding tools in sunflower genetic improvement.

AB - Although the anatomy of the sunflower achene has been extensively studied, not enough attention is given to the research of the pericarp characteristics as potentially important parameters in the breeding programme. Therefore, we considered that it was important to make very detail comparative analysis of morpho-anatomical characteristics of achene as well as miromorphological and n-alkane characteristics of epicuticular wax of the 18 wild perennial Helianthus species. For anatomical analyses cross-sections were obtained from the middle part of pericarp using cryotechnique procedure. Micromorphological observation, morphological and anatomical analysis of pericarp were performed using Light and Scanning Electron Microscopy. The composition of the epicuticular n-alkanes was characterized by GC-FID and GC/MS analyses. Results showed differences in the distribution of phytomelanin pigment among the species. Denser phytomelanin network in the species H. salicifolius, H. resinous, H. tuberosus, and H. hirsutus may be connected with better resistance to insects and mechanical damages. Species H. resinosus, H. giganteus, and H. hirsutus are characterized by the highest percentage of cuticle and sclerenchyma thickness in the pericarp which can be a predictor of mechanical resistance to biotic and abiotic factors. Species H. strumosus, H. maximiliani, and H. grosseserratus are characterized with thin pericarp, poorly developed cuticle and epicuticle wax, as well as thin sclerenchyma tissue. In the pericarp waxes, C29 was the dominant alkane but several samples had n-alkanes longer than C33. These long-chain n-alkanes may be related to drought tolerance in some species. Obtained results of pericarp characteristics can be useful for improving technical and technological properties of the achene as well as for preservation of collection of wild sunflower species.

AB - The knowledge about the magnitude and nature of variability that is present in a breeding population is an important prerequisite for designing efficient breeding programme in order to improve the yield potential of genotypes. The objective of this research was to evaluate heritability and genetic advance of important quantitative traits in new crosses of sunflower as well as to evaluate ratio of dominant and recessive genes in parental genotypes. The plant material selected for this research consisted of 6 sunflower genotypes, which according to literary data possess important characteristics for the production of sunflower. According to presented results there is significant variability of evaluated quantitative traits. Phenotypic variance was higher than genotypic demonstrating strong environment effect in expression of traits. The broad sense heritability was found very high for plant height (83.25%), high for 1000 seed weight (69.33%), moderate for seed yield/plant (46.53%) and head diameter (56.89%), while low for oil content (29.35%). Genetic advance expressed as a percentage of the mean ranged between 2.23% and 19.96%. Placement of array points displayed that the highest frequency of dominant genes for seed yield/plant, 1000 seed weight and head diameter was found in parental genotype Rodnik. Position of expected line of regression pointed over dominance in inheritance for seed yield/plant, oil content and head diameter, while for 1000 seed weight and plant height additive gene action played role in inheritance suggesting that selection in early generations for these traits will be effective. By testing the coefficients of regression interallelic interaction was not determined.
