AB  - Italian ryegrass monoculture and mixtures with red clover (sowing ratios 75:25%, 50:50% and 25:75%) were established in the spring of 2008 at the Institute for Animal Husbandry, Belgrade, with the aim to analyse the possibilities of managing the N supply. There were four N rates for Italian ryegrass monoculture: 0, 100, 150 and 200 kg ha(-1), whilst no N fertilizer was applied to the mixture plots. The trial was carried out during 2008-2010 and the highest total DM yield was obtained with 200 kg N ha(-1), similar to that of the ryegrass-clover mixtures. Ryegrass contributed less to the total yield in the mixtures, because it had lower ratios in the structure of swards than those used at sowing. An Italian ryegrass-red clover sward may have advantages over a pure Italian ryegrass sward fertilized by high rates of N, providing high yield with a more sustainable land-use system.

AB  - For comparative testing of the total productivity of mixtures (intercrops) of red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) and Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.), a trial was carried out during the 2007-2009 growing seasons at experimental fields of the Institute for Animal Husbandry, Belgrade-Zemun. Intercrops included two red clover varieties (K-17 and Una) and tetraploid Italian ryegrass (K-29t) in different proportional ratios (100:0%, 75:25%, 50:50%, 25:75% and 0:100%). Italian ryegrass sown alone was top-dressed with nitrogen rates of 100 and 200 kg ha-1. Herbage yields and botanical composition were influenced by different sowing times in the first production year. Spring seeded red clover was more persistent and cumulatively yielded, autumn seeded Italian ryegrass produced more dry matter in the mixture than red clover. The trial demonstrates the potential of two red clover cultivars grown either alone or with a suitable Italian ryegrass to achieve and maintain a high output of herbage of good quality in the first production year, with different time of stand establishment. The practical agricultural implications of using ryegrass/clover are discussed.
AB  - U toku vegetacione sezone 2007-2009 izveden je ogled na eksperimentalnom polju Instituta za stočarstvo, Zemun-Beograd, sa crvenom detelinom i italijanskim ljuljem radi uporednog ispitivanja ukupne proizvodnje biomase smeša. Smeše su uključivale dve sorte crvene deteline (K-17 i Una) i tetraploidnog italijanskog ljulja (K-29t) sa različitim proporcionalnim odnosima (100:0%, 50:50%, 75:25%, 25:75% i 0:100%). Italijanski ljulj sejan u čistom usevu prihranjivan je sa 100 i 200 kg N ha-1. Različito vreme setve uticalo je na prinos krme i botaničku kompoziciju u prvoj proizvodnoj godini. Crvena detelina sejana u proleće bila je otpornija i kumulativno prinosnija, kao i italijanski ljulj sejan u jesen koji je proizveo više suve materije u smeši u odnosu na detelinu. Ogled pokazuje potencijal dve sorte crvene deteline sejane u čistom usevu ili sa italijanskim ljuljem radi dobijanja i održavanja visoke proizvodnje biomase dobrog kvaliteta u prvoj proizvodnoj godini, pri različitom vremenu zasnivanja. Razmatrane su praktične agronomske implikacije korišćenja smeše italijanskog ljulja i crvene deteline.

Genetic resources of annual forage legumes in the world and Serbia

AB  - One of the main goals of the programmes related to genetic resources of annual forage legumes is the conservation of a remarkable genetic variability of these crops in the form of collections of accessions of diverse origin and status, it is estimated that there is more than 800,000 accessions of annual legumes in the centres and institutes such as ICARDA, ICRISAT, VIR, 1PK i IPGR (Table 1). The work on genetic resources of annual forage legumes in the Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops has been carried out together with breeding. The Annual Forage Legumes Collection of the Institute contains 1,460 accessions of 16 genera and 67 species. The highest value of the collection lays in its utilization in developing new cultivars. Characterization of the accessions is aimed at seed shape, seed coat colour cotyledon colour and flower colour, as well as at the traits characteristic for single species, such as leaf type in pea. There have been carried evaluations of yield and chemical composition of forage and grain yields and resistance to pests, diseases, low temperatures and drought.
AB  - Jedan od osnovnih ciljeva programa vezanih za genetičke resurse jednogodišnjih krmnih mahunarki jeste očuvanje izuzetne genetičke varijabilnosti osobina ove grupe biljaka. Procenjuje se da, u zbirkama centara i instituta, kao što su ICARDA, ICRISAT, VIR, IPK i IPGR, postoji više od 800000 uzoraka jednogodišnjih mahunarki. Rad na genetičkim resursima jednogodišnjih krmnih mahunarki u Institutu za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo u Novom Sadu odvijao se uporedo sa oplemenjivanjem. Zbirka jednogodišnjih krmnih mahunarki Instituta sastoji se od 1460 uzoraka 16 rodova i 67 vrsta. Najveća vrednost Zbirke nalazi se u njenom korišćenju u stvaranju novih sorti. Karakterizacija uzoraka Zbirke usmerena je na oblik semena, boju semenjače, boju kotiledona i boju cveta, kao i osobine svojstvene pojedinim vrstama, kao što je tip lista kod graška. Takođe, vrši se i evaluacija prinosa i hemijskog sastava krme i zrna i otpornosti na bolesti i štetočine kao i dejstvo niskih temeperatura i suše.

AB  - Review and results of research focusing on genetic resources and improvement of forage plants in Serbia and Montenegro (SMN) are presented in this paper. SMN is extremely rich on natural (native/autochthonous) genetic resources of different forage species. Great number of cultivars of perennial grass and leguminous plants as well as annual forage plants were created in SMN as a result of research work carried out over several decades. Domestic cultivars of forage plants have first of all high productive potential for yield of forage and quality of dry matter.
AB  - U ovom radu dat je pregled i rezultati istraživanja na genetičkim resursima i oplemenjivanju krmnih biljaka u Srbiji i Crnoj Gori (SCG). SCG predstavlja izuzetno bogat izvor prirodnih (autohtonih) genetičkih resursa naročito vrsta krmnih biljaka. Veći broj gajenih sorti krmnih biljaka za stočnu hranu ima svoje srodnike u prirodnim livadskim zajednicama. U više decenijskom radu na oplemenjivanju krmnih biljaka stvoren je veliki broj sorti višegodišnjih trava i leguminoza i jednogodišnjih krmnih kultura sa visokim proizvodnim potencijalom za prinos krme vrlo dobrog kvaliteta suve materije.
